I just saw Peter Colari at the Ogunquit. Maine Playhouse. He starred in The Music man and was fabulous. The whole cast was great, and for a small summer tourist town, you can't believe the high quality of the production. It seems it has a history of being a great venue, because the lobby has photos of stars who've performed there, going back through the Cesar Romero-type years....David McCallum, and more recently the Rue McLenahan and Betty White-type people.

@samsticka the "elderly couple" are actually Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn. Leftover footage of Fonda and Hepburn driving through the New Hampshire countryside (from On Golden Pond) was used for the opening of Newhart :)
They don't make em like this anymore. TV is trash today. In this world of get it now, hurry up, text it, etc. it's amazinig how even TV shows don't have opening credits anymore. The American TV public used to acutally sit for a minute to watch an opening credit sequence for their television shows. Now they have been cut to squeeze more advertising dollars in.
@KML0224 The top sign is to Sandwich Notch and Mead Base, the bottom sign is to Holderness, Ashland, and Plymouth in New Hampshire. This is on NH Rte 113 in Center Sandwich. I went by here a few months ago and thought it looked very familiar. lol The area doesn't look exactly the same, but it did bring back the memory of this opening. I believe most of the opening shots were in NH and I think the lake shot is in Holderness as well.
Loved this show and the opening titles, always get nostalgic for the 80's when i hear this. TV really was good back then compared to the unwatchable garbage we get served up now.
"This is my brother, Daryl, and this is my other brother Daryl." LOL!!!

great show but the music sounds like something my grandma might listen to in her car.

What towns are listed on that white sign with the black lettering? The one the old car drives behind when the screen says "And TomPoston as George"?

I really missed Steve Kampmann from this show. Scolari never really gelled for me.

I still whistle this every time I land on Vermont Ave when playing Monopoly.

Still one of the most beautiful intros to a TV series ever.

Didn't Peter Scolari join the cast in 1984?
I know for a fact that Julia Duffy replaced Jennifer Holmes in the fall of '83.
Was Steve Kampmann still around in S2, which was the 1st season to switch from videotape to film?
megamanj2004X 3 years ago 13
Yes, Steve Kampmann was around from 1982-84.
