@opethinchains Seven, actually. They are all brilliant. Buy them all! And then, if she tours again, see her live. She's wonderful on stage. Charming and lovely.
I've got nothin' to say but wow. Bought this CD the week it was released. I've never seen this before - thank you, johnwilkes, for having posted this.
Patty's music reaches into me unlike anyone else's. I've heard this song hundreds and hundreds of times, but I get the same chill every time I hear it. Nobody else can do that to me. What a wonderful woman.
@susieQluvsu I wish more people knew her music. Have you listened to Gemma Hayes? Completely different style musician, but someone who is underappreciated despite her amazing talent. I've seen them both live and they are even better in person.
@Kazakor i haven't listened to her but i've heard of her. i'll definitely check her out now. but i feel the same about patty. she's one of those artists who moves me, and i don't see how anyone could listen to her music and not fall in love with it. i really hope i get to see her live.
@susieQluvsu I saw her in Portland, Oregon during a standing room only show and it was amazing. Believe me, she's just as good live as she is in the studio. And she's very charming. Definitely worth your time!
Patti wrote this for the husband of a woman who was shot and killed at an abortion clinic. I sang it at a memorial for a friend who went down in tower one. Very powerful.
Patty is the ultimate voice..ethereal, aching, beautiful. See her in concert and see how this little dynamo can fill a concert hall..just her and her guitar
THANKS for the post, it is beautiful...I love the sepia tone!
It was on an episode of Without a Trace that I watched at like 4:00 a.m. this morning on TNT. The name of the episode was "Rage." It was about a schoolteacher trying to rescue a student from an abusive parent, while dealing with her own father's release from prison. It was an amazing episode, and this song was very haunting, capturing the feel of this powerful and poingnant episode. Well worth seeing/renting.
I always feel good about people when I see Patty. She just exudes kindness and generousity in her music and in the way she behaves on stage. That's a really rare thing. There are too many cynics in the word and not enough people like Patty.
This is cool. She played this song for me. I was wearing the Nina Hagen jacket the night before and asked if she'd play it the following night. She's always excellent.
This and your post of Patty performing Bruce Springsteen's "Racing in the Streets" may be the earliest videos of Patty Griffin. Both are very good quality and enjoyable videos of one of music's best singer/songwriters.
