Thank you so much for this video! I was showing my 5 year old son the video. My father used to work for the railroad and would sit in that tiny room at the middle of the swing part. He would communicate with the Rensselaer train yard/station about trains coming and going and make sure it was safe for him to open the bridge!
I looked up "swing bridge" ny , so I could maybe find the one down by nyc on the albany - nyc line. I didn't realize when I went over the bridge in albany, it was a swing bridge. The only reason why I knew the other was a swing bridge was becuase we had to stop at it once to let a ship go by.
Back in the very early 60's, I lived a couple of blocks west on Livingston Dave, just up from Artie Green's Liquor Store.
My brother and I used to fish in the Hudson in the shadow of the bridge. Our "catch" was given to the hobo's who live in what we called "bum village," on the northern side of the bridge along the river.
In the William Kennedy book, Ironweed, there is mentioned an "American Legion" beating of squatters along the river in the same place. May have been fiction. Dave S.

Thanks, Howard. Nice on-the-water view of the bridge opening. Although I've seen it open dozens of times, I've never gotten a shot of it.
