Plus, no video can do justice to what it feels like to have 2000 organ pipes pushing air around you. Some of the sounds this instrument makes can shake you up.
I miss the Old Town Music Hall, need to visit again soon. Used to support the theatre when I lived near, and Bill Coffman was still around. Both Bills were great players, but Bill Coffman was amazing, and very knowledgeable.
They always emphasize the percussion and bell tones on this organ. You would, too, if you had them all lit up and visible to the audience to ooh and ah over.
Bill should be commended for keeping this theatre alive..the organ came from the Long Beach Fox...Played ever Friday Saturday and Sunday ...great show for $8.00..
Silent comedies galore...The last Wurlitzer, I believe was the one in Radio City Music Hall..when the silent era was ending..it brought in hooked up but never "finished"
some 50 years later old employees of Wurlitzer went back and "finished" the organ..by that I mean all the little loose ends were done...
@cody1800212 Take a chill pill. If you were half as mature as you are trying to make yourself out to be, you would have stopped a long time ago. I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm just making sure you know exactly how you are presenting yourself.
@Zylstra555 FYI, Both the main and solo chamber ARE under expression. The percussions and toy counter are unenclosed. Also the 16' diaphones are unenclosed. I know I helped install this instrument many years ago. Organist is Bill Field.
You'll HALF a better job than that?! What, spit-wash-wipe jobs on the corner of the avenue? I'm worried that your ignorance is going to affect my pocket when I have to pay well-fare for your dumb ass.
During those times, Wurlitzer was really busy manufacturing, along with their acoustic pianos. I wonder when the last Wurlitzer pipe organ was manufactured?
I'm 22. There is a difference between slang and a complete inability to spell. Shit, even your slang words you spelled wrong. Again, learn some english. If you won't, spell the slang right. Atleast then you may be able to get a job at Mcdonalds when you are 30. I hear Wal-Mart is always hiring as well.
well the pipe organ is exactly what laurens Hammond had in mind when he created the B3 organ, little did he know jerks like me would use the hammond B3 for rock&roll. :P
My home away from home. The efforts and talents of Bill Fields head the list of guilty pleasures here. I go there almost every week. Last week was Harold Lloyd in "Safety Last", this week Shirley Temple in "Heidi". All for $8, including a singalong, short comedy, and concerts, too. Wayne

@cody1800212 Well some people don't like the Wurlitzer. I prefer a Hammond myself, but
they are R&B & Gospel organs, so that is comparing apples & oranges. This one sounds
like the skating rink we went to as kids, sort of cornball & hokey like a cartoon. Which organ,
if any, do you prefer, if I may ask?
4freespeech 1 year ago
@cody1800212 It doesn't SOUND ugly, but it does appear the wood got beat up
so somebody glued an old piece of carpet from the lobby over it. Gramps does a
superb job but seems to favor the bells & percussion a bit.

This is nice. Like it.

I learned theater organ on this instrument and after a career of over 30 years as an organist it is still my favorite installation.

None of these pipes are under expression? I'm surprised.
The story behind this little theater is charming, I would love to go there someday.

You have no idea what you're talking about. You don't realize how much work went into building this instrument.

What is the percussive stop used at 5:08-5:12 and is it digital or real?
Jacobre156 2 years ago
The percussive stop at 5:08-5:12 is english bells. All the sounds from the organ are 'real,' in other words they are all acoustic, not electronic.
