  • They actually made a *commercial* for this? Wild.

And yes, I know that this game was pretty hard, but lightning and monsters, that's a big much.

  • even a 2 player mode!!!

  • And to believe this was made by the same person who created Pokemon...

  • I kinda wish Game Freak made another Mendel Palace game before Pokemon hit the scene and demanded all their attention. Then again, I fucking love Pokemon so I guess I can't complain.

  • 0:22 Oh no lard ass!

  • THumbs up if 16-bit Gems brought you here.

  • This animation still has a Japanese flavor to it. Was Katsuya Terada involved? Looks like his work to me.

Also? Didn't know we had the Hudson Bee animation in America O_O

  • honestly as a kid there was something about this game that was creepy i cant remember which ones were the scary ones tho lol

  • @tha07flopro The bald ballerinas with their creepy smiles perhaps? xD

  • With all due respect to Quinty, it's commercials like these that make me wish they localized these games in the style the commercials presented. A haunted house-style Mendel Palace just sounds really neat to me.

  • wow, what the hell

  • I never realized there was a commercial for this game. God, it was awesome!

  • shes gonna get raped

  • This game is so freakin' hard! But it's as fun as hard so it's ok!

  • i never knew how to play this game...

  • lol i have this game! i love it! i hope nintendo makes a sequel or a remake!

  • The monster stomping in time with the music creeped me out when I was a kid.

  • ahhhh....this is the firs satoshi tajiri's game!

  • I still remember playing this game on the night Mike Tyson bit off Holyfield's ear. We ordered the Bigfoot pizza from Dominos (back when they had it), and everyone was wasted in the room next to mine watching the fight, and I was playing Mendel Palace, intending to finally beat that son of a bitch. Then on the second to last stage, some drunk asshole came in and tripped over the cord, fucking up my game. I was pretty pissed.

  • @Zer0Funk

    Bigfoot pizza! Ahhh...the memories.

  • EVEN A TWO PLAYER MODE

  • Mendel Palace is a great game. Hard as hell, too.

  • ehh, I see people keep leaving games out, GameFreak had more games before Pokemon

there was 1989 Quinty/Mendel Palace ,1991 Jerry Boy, 1991 Yoshi, Er some game for SEGA in 1992, 1993 Mario & Wario, 1994 Some game that has a white cat, 1994 Pulseman, 1996 Some game with a monkey, 1997 BUSHI, 1999 A game for PlayStation 1,

2005 Drill Dozer, 1996 Pokemon Red & Green, & then the Pokemon series continued..

  • @PocketMonstersFreak I'll fill in the blanks. Magical Taruruuto-kun (based on an anime of the same name) for Mega Drive (1992), the game with a white cat is Nontan to Issho! Kuru-Kuru Puzzle for Game Boy (1994), the game with a monkey is Bazaar de Gosāru no Game de Gosāru for PC Engine (1996), and Click Medic for PS1 (1999).

  • =D YAY THIS THE BEST GAME I EVER PLAY

  • By her own dolls.

  • Oh, thanks.

  • dolls

  • "Um, what is Dr. Matthew Mendel Palace?"

  • sounds like a damn horror thing, its more. like.. i dunno what that other person said like 8 months ago, ..i see its true that Americans over exaggerate some things.. ^-^'

  • This is my favorite NES game!

  • Old game commercials are weird.

  • i used to love this game.

  • Mendel Palace is a good game! It was also the debut title of Satoshi Tajiri and his company Game Freak, who later created Pokémon Red/Blue.

  • Man that commerical brings me back...

  • This is one of my most favorite NES games of all time! I remember playing this every weekend back when I was a kid. Aah, this brings back so many memories. Thank you.

  • What puzzles me is that hudson tried to make the game look like a horror game, when in fact, it's actually really cutesy.....

  • helped it sell better didn't it though lol

  • @videogamedude2345 What do you mean? My thought would be that they only published the game, because Mendel Palace was designed by Game Freak itself, not Hudson Soft.

  • @videogamedude2345 That's American advertising for ya. LOL :P

  • I remember playing this game over and over again back then. Very fun!

  • mendel palace was the shit. me and my boy send nearly the whole summer trying to end this back in the days. its ashame we never achieved what we set out to do. the game was actually pretty hard. :(

  • Mendel palace isn't really shitty, but it made it look way better.

  • @Rocky183 it was fun, but totally had the wrong image

  • I love this game and the Hudson Soft bee so cute

  • I bought this game years ago. I still have it complete with box and instructions. I always hoped Gamefreak would make a sequel but all they do now is make Pokemon games. MENDEL PALACE ROCKS! It's up there with BUBBLE BOBBLE! By the way, I never knew there was a commercial for the game. I just took a chance and purchased it at a Kay-Bee Toys when I saw it on clearance!

  • I love this game, this was one of favorite NES back in the. I love it so much ^__^

  • learn how to spell

  • The announcer sounds like Vincent Price to me. Does anyone know for sure?

  • This game is awesome, used to rent it all the time. I remember this commercial.

  • Just beat it (for the second time in my life) and decided to celebrate by looking for Mendel Palace artwork or the like and came across this. Woo hoo!

  • Me, my mom, and my uncle used to play this all the time when I was little. Awesome game.

  • I loved this game. 2 players was awesome... remember not to hit the sun tile when all the monsters are dead or else you could open more monster portals lol

  • Gamefreak's first Nintendo game before Pokemon.

  • Not entirely. GF did release some more games after this and before Pokémon, including Yoshi's Egg (NES, 1991), Mario & Wario (NES, 1993) and Pulseman (SEGA, 1994).

  • sounds like a good game.

  • It was actually. Lenghty though. You have to clear about 10 stages per 8-10 islands (so basically 100 levels in all). first 9 stages are simple, but the 10th stage you gotta beat a boss. Which some are really tough, some are easy!

  • This is a great game! Very underrated.
