Going to have to look for this pedal on the old ebay. I use Boss Mega-distortion. It's cool for modern stuff, but I've always preferred the 80's sound.
@lairro69 iv forgotten more about gear then you ever knew so shut your goddamn mouth mother fucker you really this a little ass pedal is going to give you sould like a marshell stack? FUCK NO YOU INBRED CUNT
@corso1983 the more he talks the better, because if you dont talk enough there are always a tonne of questions in the comment bit, and believe me youtubers hate that!
Great review, but at 7.08 > there is a "problem" that I sometimes have to, the "pulsing" lowfrequenzy. Do you or anybody else have any ideas for it? =)
This pedal does sound horrid!? Thanks for the review, great review BTW. Nice unbiased description, nice playing. This pedal sounds like the intro to 90120! That thing should have a suck nob because it sucks! Thank god I didn't bother building this thing, I wanted to get that Radiohead crunch but I guess I'll just stick with a Muff clone.
@Ilovemyfender2 you're right. right after i replied i was looking at some of the things jonny uses in the in rainbows-live from the basement thing and saw that he was using another amp.
i have this pedal - agree it's a one trick pony. Doesn't sound much good except cranked up and then you lose all of the definition. I really doubt Johnny Greenwood uses this much anymore
This might be a heavey metal pedal but certainly not a one trick pony,, for example i know for a fact Jonny Greenwood from radiohead uses one as his main use of distortion.
@jimboo94 I have the Drive Master, and I disagree. Green Day is actually my fave band, so take it from somebody who tried XD It's got a much thinner distortion. Now I think of it, it might have a little of the 39/smooth - Kerplunk sound. But it's still a good pedal!
Wow...I have one of those things lying around for years...never took much notice of it...but after seeing your review, I think I'm gonna take a second look at it! Thanks for the great review!! ;-)
The Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde. The Jekyll side is a TS-808 clone, the Hyde side is a Shredmaster clone. Or, you could just buy the Son of Hyde, which is JUST the Hyde in a box by itself.
shredmaster? wheres the shredding then? he just played riffs! nice pedal though...i use a boss metal core 2, i think thats the one to beat at the moment.
If you run all the EQ on the pedal at 50% or straight up go BACK to your amp and use the EQ on that to tailor your tone. Use the Gain and level only on theis pedal unless you want scooped sounds. Gobuy a mesa rectifier. But for my 1977 Marshall MKII N.M.V. 100 watt amp/cab matching I use the Shredmaster AND the MarshallBluesbreaker and I can turn them which wither one im using
I did own this pedal back then and unfortunately it wasn't too loud for my tastes but i didn't have the right equipment also, like a guitar with much attack. Nice review, reviews help sometimes
you are the worst reviewer on youtube. i'm not even appreciative of the 'time and effort' you put into this garbage clup. you wasted 9 minutes of my life man, what the hell. you didn't even show its tone and sound in solo-mode, which is what this metal pedal was created for. get some confidence before posting a lead metal pedal review from the perspective of a rhythm guitarist...
True bypass is--rather can--be a bit of shit. People have gotten on this true bypass or bust band wagon lately, and it's balls. Some pedals need it, some don't. I hear "click, hmm, click" a lot lately...
I used to have this way back in the 90s I was pretty dumb to buy it for Clash, Rancid and Toy Dolls covers... Absolute beauty for HEAVY sounds though.. Also, its is good to note that this thing is no use for CHEAP guitars( like what I had at the time) it will make you buzz like crazy.. since as you saw it doesn't do much without the gain cranked up.. It has solid construction one of the toughest pedals (and heaviest) everbuilt.
What about 5:25? more scooped but still sounds muddy as hell as opposed to other pedals I have and have tried for a Hard rock/ Heavy sound. And he does mention that the actual amp is not really loud. To get the best tone you have to crank the amp so that you get both preamp and poweramp clipping. Its called the sweet spot. and mixed with a pedal, the amp will sing. Thats my opinion on the Marshall Shredmaster.
no no no.... the amp is a mesa boogie 5:25 and its on 5 watts so its sounding fine because hes selected it on the 5 watts so you can crack it without annoying your neighbours
wrong! the shredmaster has most gain, then drivemaster , then bluesbreaker. They all sound very very similar just different gain (ive owned all of them) the drivemaster is almost identical to the guvnor
You are wrong. That's what Marshall wanted you to believe. If you listen, it's rather obvious that the Drivemaster has more gain. The Shredmaster has way more bass and a very different midrange, though.
great sounding pedal. i'll check one out. thought your were going to get choked up there towards the end reminiscing about back in the day. I think you miss shredding it up.
i could do without the commentary on what settings "sound good." he says it only sounds good with full gain, but he only really uses it that way...doesn't he just play it full up because he read the word shred on the front.
what do you like: marshall shredmaster or proco rat?
It's dificult to know what he used inside the studio. But on stage, he always used (and still use) a Marshall Shredmaster through a Fender 85 (a transistor amp) and a SD 1 for the less distorted part through his Vox AC-30 tube amp. It's what I believed but It's really hard to be sure... I got a Shredmaster and a Telecaster Plus so I alsmost have the same sound.
I own a couple shredmasters and a couple Blues breakers 1st edition.which i run with all the correct gear. its what you surround these incredible pedals with. Why else would radiohead, my bloody valentone to John mayer use them and buy them all up! I get othing but compliment after compliment on my tones I AB-Y a couple Marhall amps
Actually , I own 2 1st EDITION 91' SHREDMASTERS and (2) 1ST ED 1991 Bluesbreakers.
Guitar instrumentals, fusion, heavy rock, alternative, to blues, pure funk and everything imaginitve style you can imagine. remember everyone you cant just go buy a mesa and plug a shredmaster into it. doesnt work. too mushy. unless you like that. I currently run 2 Marshalls one NMV and one MV , 1977 Mint JMP MKII PCB from ENG.100 watt with all NOS TUBES etc and a 1981 Marshall JCM800.
I know little about Nu Mental but it seems really hard to place bands in the genre. It seems to be a wide genre since Linkin Park, System Of A Down and Limp Bizkit are all included(?).
Great review man. I have never seen one of these guys floating around, but maybe Ill pick one up if I run across it at a pawn shop or something. Thanks!
Hi Justin!! nice review!! I have one question.. the original chip of the shred Master is a Motorola?? in its circuit inside is written down Jim Marshall?? I don't know if my shred Master circuit is original.. I bought in second-hand, sorry my bad english!! thanks!
Pretty good, but if you put it on a loud amp ur gonna need a noise gate cuz the gain is set to 11 and stays there so it makes some feedback. Otherwise i like it alot, sounds real thick, pinch harmonics scream, and basically it just has an EQ on it which gives a range of tone u want.
same here, I love the sound. it's perfect for playing fast/slow n heavy riffs you can get a range of sound like overclocked221 said. if you like death metal, metal core n such, it's a must have. personally I play Daath, Bloodbath, and Heaven Shall Burn on the pedal.
Going to have to look for this pedal on the old ebay. I use Boss Mega-distortion. It's cool for modern stuff, but I've always preferred the 80's sound.

i was thinking about getting one...how well do they work?

Pretty good, but if you put it on a loud amp ur gonna need a noise gate cuz the gain is set to 11 and stays there so it makes some feedback. Otherwise i like it alot, sounds real thick, pinch harmonics scream, and basically it just has an EQ on it which gives a range of tone u want.

hm. that helps. thanks!

same here, I love the sound. it's perfect for playing fast/slow n heavy riffs you can get a range of sound like overclocked221 said. if you like death metal, metal core n such, it's a must have. personally I play Daath, Bloodbath, and Heaven Shall Burn on the pedal.
