Actually, the expiration date is defined as the time when the amount of drug in the pill is at 90% of the amount on the label. So the longer past the expiration date it is the less and less of the original drug is in the pill.

Also, Aspirin will split into salicylic acid and vinegar. Salicylic acid is very rough on the stomach and can cause ulcers. If you have some old aspirin (or Excedrin which has aspirin in it) sniff the bottle it will probably smell like vinegar, you don't want to use that.

I totally agree with this...Just a couple things to add--Antibiotics should never be saved, not because they go bad, but because taking less than a full course can dampen an infection without getting rid of it, causing it to come back and increasing chances of developing resistance to the medication you need.

Nitroglycerin--this deteriorates quickly, esp if exposed to light, and because it effects blood supply to the heart, it's important that one's supply is potent. (Insulin was mentioned)

@Drecon84 ...um, they mean the same thing, there's just two kinds; there's legal and illegal/prescription and street/pharmacological and recreational. It's still something you put in your body that causes a physiological response. "Harmful" and "helpful" aren't even always true, esp. if you are talking about pain/anxiety meds/narcotics.
