  • gee i thought i was good until i saw this

  • brilliant mate!!

  • feck me your playing is evidently a result of pure practice and talent, fair play.

  • can you tell the model of the whistle?

  • I really love that you can hear the thump your foot keeping the beat for some reason. You're really talented man, very impressive.

  • Wow !! You' re seriously amazing !! :D

  • I haven't heard a version of The Ships Are Sailing as well done, ever - and I'm from a serious trad family, my 86 year old grandmother and 82 year old grandfather are still heading out to sessions at local pubs to play their violin and accordian, and my mother and aunt and uncle are all exactly the same!! I've played on and off since 8, and hearing you play that tune has made me want to start playing again. I hope someday I can belt out that tune half as well as you! Best wishes from Ireland :)

  • This video is so inspiring. It may take a while for me to play like that, but I am going to start tomorrow. Tomorrow, a Clarke tin whistle. I can't wait. :3

  • What brand of whistle is this? It sounds great! I just got a Clarke in D, and mine sounds way cheaper....

lol it says tin whistle, so guess...

  • @wowdotswe Ever think they are referring to the key of the whistle and the make?

  • @wowdotswe is it a clarke?

  • @PaPaSmVrf

Yes, I think so. ^^ I have 3 home, and they're all clarke.

  • @PaPaSmVrf

    a clarke ? :o) no it's an o'riordan top & a generation body...

  • I am really amazed by the beautyful sound of this instrument. I play flute, but the sound of that instrument is so much different from this sound! AMAZING!!

  • nice instrument

  • Is your tin whistle a C or D major? ^-^ Btw, you're a magnificent player!! I have always wished to buy one but funnily enough, I never knew what they were called since I thought they were flutes. Now I know they aren't hehe. Bah, but enough rambling eh? You're the best I've heard yet!!!

  • You're great, man.

  • 18 people lost their ships...

I just bought my very first tin whistle. should come in a week or so. your video makes me half depressed and half hopeful. If whistling is my thing, I may, in fifty years or so, play something close to what you played. I'm not that patient T_T

  • you are a master i will be master of whistle master of flute and guitar

  • wonderfull, so dream

  • Greetings from France! And thank you very much for your videos, as a beginner in tin whistle it helps me a lot.

Keep it as good as it is.

    Hail!

  • OH DEAR! I cannot even look as fast as your fingers are playing.... Even with hundreds/thousands years of practice, I couldn´t achieve this... Truly amazing! oO

  • I love your style..im a fidlle player/piper myself...love this tune aswel..where you from?:)

  • excellent job, father. You defiantly have more skill than most whistlers I've heard.

  • Thanks man, you are an inspiration. I would never have gotten as far as I did in my learning the tin whistle without your videos.

  • Lovely! What's the name of the second tune?

  • Amazing

    5*****

    Godbless

    Kev

  • D: This isn't the instrument I was looking for, but it's beautiful nevertheless! I could listen to this all day! Thanks for posting!

  • holy mother! to learn this song threw this video i would need to slow it down to super slowmotion gr8 finger work im very impresst

  • is this real? the sound is way to good...

  • @rob102938yt dude, its the quality of the camera. its not the best, so it cant quite keep up with the fingering. if youve watched other people on yt videos talking to a webcam, youll notice a lot of times that their mouth isnt synced with their voice. The same rules apply with this. although this is pretty freakin close. off by a .01 of a second maybe

  • @rob102938yt It looks like all the other fast tin whistle videos...

  • @rob102938yt i think its fraude too

  • @celtic4ever18: IT'S, not its.

Also, if IT'S a fraud, could you direct me to the cd that I'm copying?

  • @RyanDunsSJ sorry ryan it looks fraud but it isnt

  • amazing i quite enjoyed this... thankyou friend!

  • that's amazing...i bet it need year of practice to get so good...

  • ye make me sway to your tunes so easily :-)

  • The first one sounds an awful lot like Sweeney's Buttermilk, but thats played on a fiddle/violin.

  • maestro !!!

  • good stuff

  • sorry, in which key is the tinwhistle?

  • in what tonality isin which key is the tinwhistle?

  • Can only play 2 songs. Puts me to shame

  • thank you

  • Hello Ryan, What key are you playing in? Thanks

    David

  • omg this is so cool haha i love this instrument :3 awesome jobb

  • NIce! Where is all that reverb coming from?

  • magnifique !! merci !!

  • Ryan- good work, you just set off my smoke detector!

  • Hi man !! do you have any ide what kind you have of whistle because i really want one of those ;P

  • @PotatisenSimme you could consider buying one of mine ;)

  • r u really Irish?

  • Absolutely wonderful, thank you!

    Charlotte

  • Is that a Key of C or Key of D tinwhistle?

  • A player reunited with his whistle is a lovely thing indeed ...

  • beautiful!

Your fingers move so fast it's amazing! Soon as I try to play anything faster my fingers seem to fall over each other! ^^"

I must practice more! Your playing inspires me to do so. ^^

  • The second reel is called "Morse Avenue" :)

  • Magic music ;)

  • Wow, sounds amazing. I just started your lessons but that seems like it would take forever to learn !

  • kl but i need some sheet music and good songs :d

  • Wow that's some fast fingers. Very beautiful sound :D

  • Awesome dude.

  • It's marvellous! Congratulations and greetings from Poland :)

  • i love your whistle playing in this song Tal, Baby Roy

  • Awsome! =D

  • This is wonderful playing!

    I love it!

    XxSarah

  • very nice i just cant keep up with ships are sailing... to fast for me...any tips or hints on playing faster???

  • What model and key is this flute?

  • wooow...very good *__+

  • outstanding!

  • Wow, that was amazing.

  • Oddly enough, the echo of the room lends the normally crisp sound of the pipe a fantastic(19th-century usage), haunting sound, as if one were come upon a wedding in the house of Elrond or in the Shire.

  • What kind of whistle are you using?

  • VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Your playing is so fluid, it's awesome! Now I have to go to confession cause I'm so envious of you. LOL.

  • hahaaaa.

  • strong ! bardzo ładnie

  • I LOVE IT!!!

  • I'm very impressed!

  • Awesome dude!

  • wow that was totally awesome : o

  • What key is this?

  • F minor (I'm not sure cause I picked up my tin whistle for the first time since I bought it a year ago tonight but I think that means its in A flat major)

  • mesmerizing sound :)

I think I must buy one as well now and start playing !

  • ditto....^^

  • @Tagert112

    Agreed.

  • ahi tare en un futuro jajajja

  • where can i find the partiture for this song?

  • you play really nice! Moreover, I would like to ask you that I am interested in celtic music and as a beginner I found Clarkes tin whistles. What is your opinion on these whistles? Are they good for their playability and price?

  • @BluesHarplayer going from a dixon brass trad in d to a clarkes d (I lost the dixon) was dissapointing but it's not a terrible flute. You can't tune them and they have a tinny sound as cons go.....

  • how much cost a good and cheap tin whistle?

  • Bought a clarke whistle for 10 euros today :)

Clarke seems to be good an popular

  • visit: whistle and drum (dot) com take the spaces out. they have good beginner sets its where i got mine

  • @hohenhorstersam i got one for 35€

its a SUSATO, a good one

    Wszystkiego dobrego...

  • PERFECT!

  • anyone know how good this is to take up as just a 10-minutes-a-day instrument? and what type of key of whistles is most comon? and what does blowing in it feel like (flute, recorder, oboe, etc) might try it

  • If you haven't gotten some answers yet;

The tin whistle as a 10 minutes-a-day instrument wouldn't really be that bad. It's easy to get descent, pretty difficult to get really good though!

If you're a really dedicated whistler, I assume you'll spend more than 10 minutes, after all. Hehe :)

The most common key is D, I don't know about the second most common or so on.

The feeling to blow in it... I can't really compare, since I only play keyboard instrument, except for the whistle. :)

  • thanks, i was thiinking of something just to tootle on, but now i'm not too sure about it. might try it out still though

  • I'd recommend you to try it out at least :D

Beginner whistles are ridiculously cheap. I'm using a Clarke in D at the moment, but I'm thinking about buying a Susato :)

But the Clarke is really awesome for its price.

So if you keep on playing, or quit, you really haven't wasted a huge amount of money, after all!

  • @xxkid123 The tin whistle, as you can see is very much like the recorder, compare the mouthpiece type. So it should blow like a recorder, but it's a little different. Most cheap tin whistles (and in fact a lot of expensive ones) require less air to push the notes compared to a recorder. Also, if you're going to compare most cheap whistles to a Yamaha plastic recorder the whistles are going to be much quieter than the recorder, so don't go saying your whistle is broken too early.

  • okay, it's hard enough to play te recorder enough since i'm used to the oboe, so now i'm thinking of not getting it...

  • seems easy :3 i got a c tinwhistle today and i can already read music and play just fine (though im used to reading flute music...)

  • WOW ! this guy is so good! In my school my teacher gave me a tin whistle and i cant play it .I am SO bad at it (puke)

  • very pretty

  • very good!

  • If you are looking for a whistle zakisbomb, I recommend a susato; I got mine on ebay for 20 bucks and its got a beautiful sound. Feadog and the like are fine to learn on as well. Really, one can make any whistle sound good if you have good breath control. Good luck!

  • sweet! keep up the good work dude :D

upload more videos with irish classics ;)

  • That was pretty. Sounds ethereal, as if you were inside a really big hall or something. :0

  • I dont know if anyone could help me, but im looking to buy my first tin whistle and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of a good beginners one. if you have any suggestions let me know

  • get a D tin whistle that would be a start

  • Don't buy a walton's, that's the only thing I can tell you.

  • Yeah they're cheapos, but walton's are pretty good for their price.

  • That's true, but I wouldn't dare playing in front of other people with it. And I think when starting your instrument, the first one you buy should be good enough to play for an audience, which, in my opinion, isn't the case with walton's whistles.

  • For cheap ones i recomend a Feadog or a Generation in D as they are more in tune than other brands. For expensive Susatos are great as their tuning is very accurate.

  • the best for me is SUSATO (in D)

  • You can get very good quality Generation whistles for a good price.

  • awesome

  • well thats just to far for me sadly. keep on dreaming

  • hi were do u get inis oir notes??????

  • your so class i am good at the tin-whitle but im no-were near as good as u

  • this is brilliant- ive been playing on and off for a few years now, as well as the saxophone and piano: this is mind-blowing- id love to play like that :) good job

  • SO AWESOME!!! This video alone inspired me to take up the Tin Whistle. Got one coming in the mail now!!!

  • How funny! Same here! I just got one too :D These videos are very inspiring. I've always played the recorder (seriously), but now I really want to learn the Tin Whistle to sort of connect with my Irish identity. Good luck with learning! :D

And thanks to the man in this video for posting! :D

  • MAN! You're awesome.

  • I wish I could play like that. I do have a thin whistle but there a no lessons here in the area.

well thats what you get when you live in holland.

keep going like this. you do very well.

  • too true...
