My Dad joined Candlewick as lead singer in the early 80's. His name is Jeff Lewis and he's from South Wales. He had a stroke last year, and has retired from singing because of ill health. He would love to see some of the old stuff he did. I anyone could help, that would be fantastic. I know they did Crackerjack once. I remember us going to the Isle of Man with the band for summer season. Hope someone can help!
I remember a member of the band called Jimmy Nunnen. He worked in a printing factory with my mother. He gave me his Subbuteo football game! I don't know what became of him after fame!
Terry Webb original lead singer and founder member...it's so nice to know that people stil remember us, thankk you.
Peter O'connel and Arthur Roberts were never involved with Candlewick Green, sorry.
Des Dwyer and Clive Scott of Jigsaw wrote Who do you think you are, we had the same manager and one day they were mixing their album and we asked can we have this one as a single and eventually they agreed.
My name is L es I used to be your Rodie for a short time in the 70s I was with you when we all went to Sheperds Bush Slade was top of the bill on Crackerjack. a million miles away how you doing I,m still overhere in Germany got a small studio here. nothing posh. The Krauts love all the 70,s & 80,s stuff. Remember how you all Frightend me to deathin those digs in Wales I thought the house was full of Ghosts. all the best Les
Hi Terry, This is Tony Burns here (Ines Burns & the Signs). Long Time no speak!!!
Just to clear a few things up on here, Peter O' Connel was not in Candlewick Green, If it's the same guy he was in The Signs with me and Dave Kerrigan.
Hope all is well with you and great to see the video, brought back fond memories of the old days. Really sorry to hear about Dudley. R.I.P.
Would be nice if one of the Candlewick Green band members would type a personal message up here to all the fans! Come on lads, you must have access to the internet. Where are you and what are you all doing now? Reply to your fans!!!!!! I say, I say, Your number one fan from Brid.
hi terry i am trying to find out the where abouts of alan ball as i met him years ago down in a place called llanelli would love to know if hes still around
I remember this band really well from my days of working at a cabaret club in Sheffield (the Fiesta, which CG played quite often, if memory serves). They always went down a storm. Are (any of) the band still gigging?
Well deserved 5star rating for a truly great 70's song.Never knew Alan Leyland also made the equally great 'SKY HIGH'(by Jigsaw)What a talent.
Wait until around 2010+ and these songs will be remembered as 1970's pop classics. Can't say the same about chart music from the 90's till the present though!
Please tell your dad that this is my fav song of all time...i was going out with my first girlfriend at the time and t othis day we keep it touch and this is still our song. Your dad is some man...
Well actually Jigsaw's 2 main leaders did write Who Do You Think You Are,and recorded it under the name of Jigsaw as well. They are Des Dyer, and Clive Scott. But they let Bo Donaldson And The Heywoods record it in the states on ABC Records and have a hit with the song, back in 1974. The Jigsaw recording of the song is on a Japanese Import CD,and is highly expensive when found.I believe there are a total of 30 songs on this CD too.
I agree with you, it is an incredibly emotional song & video, every time I watch it or listen to the music I cry, and I haven't been on the cider! ;-)
can you tell me if the 'Jimmy' mentioned in 'More Info' was Jim Millard.
We knew him in the 90's (he has sadly passed away). He used to say he was involved with the writing of this, but I think signed his right to royalties away.
Hi, Remember meeting arthur roberts a few years ago great guy he wrote the lyrics for [ who do you think you are ] Think there was someone else did the music arrangement anyone know who please , Lee Prestley
I met someone who said they were with Candlewick Green in the 70's, he is from Liverpool and his name is Peter O'Connel and is now residing in the Yorkshire Dales.
Hi! I am Arthur Roberts' daughter. Very sadly my dad passed away on the 22nd May of this year. He used to tell us all about he had played the trumpet for Candlewick Green in their early days. He always spoke fondly about the boys in the band.
One of the great UK productions of the 1970's. The arrangement, musicianship and vocals are fabulous. Where are the melodies like this on todays compositions
I was driving from Leicester to London this afternoon listening to VRT Radio from Belgium (540kHz AM clear reception over here) and they played this. I vaguely remember it when I was a kid and so looked it up on You Tube. Great, fresh sounding song. Thanks.
The great piano intro always takes me straight back to hot '74 disco nights and Graham, the self satisfied & 'smug' lucky bloke who always monopolised the most charasmatic & achingly pretty blond in town- the one girl every hot blooded lad wanted to date....and guess who caught and married her in the end Graham? yeh....ME! Happy days indeed! Spin it one more time..........how's it go? de de, deh deh deh!!!!
Yes, it will have been him on Coronation Street as he did loads of extra work there. I found this video last night and it's really fab for me as I grew up going to their gigs so it brought back lots of happy memories for me too.
I showed the vid to my Dad this morning and he asked me to say thanks to everyone here for the lovely comments- he really enjoyed seeing the vid and is as chuffed as I am that I came across it.
My dad was Athur Roberts who died earlier this year and I think he knew your dad because he played the trumpet in his band. Please get your dad to re-release the song! My dad would have loved that and it is a great song.
@mmgirl1977 hi, nice to hear dereks still about, still playing derek? I was a roadi in the 70s for about 4 years, 76 in the isle of man, blackpool , brid. what happened to the rest then, alan. jimmy, terry, dud?
Yes Jigsaw wrote it and were putting on their album when we heard it and asked if they're not releasing it as a single can we have it, we knew it would be a hit and after an agonising few days they came back and said we could. TERRY WEBB original lead singer.
Absolutely brilliant song, one of my favourites from back in the day. I met one of the band (can't remember his name) when we both worked as extras on Coronation Street about twenty years ago.
does anyone here know arthur roberts or robbie roberts??? he was in candlewick green for this song on trumpet but left soonafter. he is my dad but he sadly passed away on tuesday. r.i.p
Great to hear this song again, I'v look all over for it in cd form. Danced my socks off to this when about 15 / 16. The song made me smile then and still does now. Thanks so much for posting it for all to hear.
I'm trying to remember what year this was filmed, any idea's? I think the line up was: The Duvals(Magic act), Gypsy (male & two female singing group) and Candlwick Green. Not sure if there was another act on? In the orchestra pit there was a keyboard player and a drummer, one called Trevor the other i can't recall his name. You could find them in the Greyhound pub! God I had some great times at the 3B's and the wild parties after the shows.
Andy idea if they did a single called that was called or contained the line somethig like "lifes too short" for that my friend in the chorus, I am sure it was them
