I was just saying in it that I'm learning the contra dances via internet Because contra dances are not very well known where I live...It's good to have a vid of a dance because the notes on the dances aren't always easy to understand.

I'm a dancer myself. I do irish set dancing but also other french dances. I'd like to learn contra dancing and show these dances to my friends so we can dance them during our "folk" balls here in France.. :-)

It's tons of fun! I highly recommend finding a dance near you to go see.. I've NEVER met a single person at a contra dance who wasn't welcoming and happy to show newcomers how to do it! :)

Ah, but it's sliiiightly different from square dancing. :) Like, in squares, you have four couples dancing together, and in contra you have two couples. Big difference, right?? :)

I started dancing barefoot at age 8 and never could get used to doing it with shoes on. Or.. I had to wear heeled shoes in a troupe I was in, and kept being yelled at to PUT MY HEELS DOWN, not dance on my toes despite the heels. :) I've been stomped on but good, but meh.. nothing broken, and I learned quick to move out of the way if needed. :) See Peter's shiny new shoes though? Man, he made me chase all over town with him for those. He loooooves shoes. :)

That's just what we did five years ago. :) It's a lot of work, moving your life somewhere so different, but I think it's worth it. :) anyone can do it! :)

Of course! We only have it on fourth saturdays though (this was an extra labor day dance) so we should probably hit the weekly international too.. the one we went to that one time and taught diehammerschmidtgezellen. I far prefer int'l but their room was too small for me. We've also been learning swing (fun and more of it each week) and I want to join a hula halau.. hula is WAY harder than it looks, exercise wise. :) Love love love love you!

It's a TON of fun, and you don't need a partner. :) Partners switch all the time and it's extremely rare to not be asked to dance by more men than you can handle. :) Hehehe. And thank you for the compliments! :)

Hehe yeah.. she was fairly new. But contra is ALL about bringing in new folks, and as long as they're trying, everyone's happy. :) I'd being you all there if I could! ;) It's really just a walking step, with turns and extras. :) Low impact cardio that burns a TON of calories, and you don't notice since it's fun. :)

Well, it's really JUST walking! :) You repeat the same patterns over and over, just at different times. I'm sure you saw us doing the same spins etc many times. You just learn one pattern (a spin) then another (a ladies chain -- harder to describe but we do a bunch of them in this) and before you know it, you're a dancer! ;)
