did you use an adjustable cam gear? i have a boosted d17 and i just ordered a cam and valve springs but cant find a cam gear anywhere lemme know thanks
aem makes an adjustable cam gear for the d17. also what type of engine management are you using? hondata kpro is probably the best and they use a custom aem cam gear. i will be using this for engine mangement and already have the cam gear. its not installed in this video but is going on with my current rebuild.
thanks for all the positive comments and constructive criticism. im currently rebuilding for bigger and better things. also i have swapped that strut bar for a neuspeed one and it is much better. i havent driven the car with it on but it doesnt rub at all on the intake pipe.
btw i have an 04 civic ex awesome cars. but some people just cant understand variable valve timing and the differences between it and non v v t. Defergerth you must understand the stupidity of youtube in order to be above it. LOL 16 yr old kids the have their license and a car think that they know the complexities of a modern vehicle. hhmmpphh, they probably dont understand the purpose of vtec. MORONS.
People need to known there shit before they make stupid ass comments! Even tho it's a stage 3 it's a damn vtec so it's not going to lope like a vtec killer cam. In short, The whole point of vtec is so you can have a smooth idle but make good power when you open it up! For the cars that do idle rough with bigger cams it's cause theyr tuned to do so!
for the people who believe he meant to say he has 3 cams u guys are fucking morons. if he has the knowledge to work on his own car then im sure he knows it dosent have 3 cames
wow i feel sorry for you dude you try to put up a vid of your car and you get all the morons that sit at home wackin it all day try to tell you what you put in your car and how it should sound mean while there sitting across from the computer screen with a beat up piece of shit in the drive way wishing they could provide for there low life familys let alone throw in after market parts for there car nice civic man i have a 89 civic dx with a boosted ls/vtec
@2001civicex5spd DOUBLE FAIL, he said "stage 3 cams??" suggesting they are not stage 3 because of the way they sound. Stage 3 would have a rough and choppy idle and this clearly does not. You simply failed to read the comment correctly and took it as he was trying to say it has 3 camshafts.....so sir i do believe YOU FAIL...........LOL j/p :p
@102rancid did you listen to it very carefully? is the ticking noise that you hear. it needs replaced. that or adjust the valves. its pretty common on d17 motor.
Valvetrain noise on the D17 is very close to impossible to get rid of. I adjusted my valves 3 times in 2 days trying to get it to go away, and then gave up. After each valve adjustment, I started it, it would be silent, idled for a couple minutes, drove down the road and back, and they were ticking again.
@2001civicex5spd hi can u send me some some picture around the intake and the bar? please....i'm having an AEM cold air short ram, but i didn't which strut bar is compatible
I gotta say, I don't like this model much, but seems like your doing your homework on this build, I'm impressed. I'm personally going the D16Y7 way with my EH2 and just doing bolt ons but major suspension/chasis work, so until I make it track only imma try and keep it street legal
The reason b series isgood is because of the support of cheap aftermarket products. In stock form engines of any kind lasts forver, but when modded it tends to breakdown. I gurentee you that if you fix up your car up with aftermarket products like cams, pistons, and all the other stuff. your car will not see 5 years of engine life. Of course I mean 48,000 miles post mod. Aftermarket products are cheap and was made to last only for a specific reason, but not for durability and longivity.
very true but bswap is pointless for an em2 and would require alot of custom work. also i understand your point on longevity. the pistons and rods that i will be using this next go around will be oem honda made.
not true at all. I know a guy with an EVO VIII and he's had aftermarket parts for 4 years now with no problems...a fully built engine that sees 32 psi daily.
i have the aem tru time pullies and stock cam gear. i will be putting on an unorthodox racing crank pulley with the rebuild im currently doing. also i will be adding the cam gear that comes with kpro.
Actually!! Check ur oil. My engine light came on and I was throwing the same codes. My car wouldnt go past 4,000 rpm. Found out I was really low on oil. Got an oil change and everything went back 2 normal. VTEC solenoid about $240, vtec pressure switch about $50.
actually i didnt get the chance to run the emanage i threw a rod and its sittin in my driveway awaiting a rebuild. i want to sell my emanage and get kpro though
did you need to get this beast tuned before it was drivable? or tuning is only required for it to run at its peak? also, did you run piggyback or stand alone ecu on this baby? good shiet bro~!
i havent had it tuned yet. it is drivable but you have to be really careful and baby it. i will be using a greddy emanage piggy back for now until i can afford kpro. thanks man.
That's it

really clean engine bay nice! Do you find the strut bar makes any difference besides cosmetic looks ?
kyle88l 1 year ago
@kyle88l strut bars stiffen up the chassis enough to where it feels more stable. Some people might not agree but it does help a lot.

this is what a stage 3 cam on 9:1 compression sounds like, you dont get the pop noise till you raise the compression too
