Why dont people talk about bicycles, in places like Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, and in Copenhagen and Houten in Denmark, people ride bicycles as much as drive cars. Why is it a bad thing for people to switch modes of transport. People in the cities mentioned, like riding bikes, why are bikes such a bad thing.
2. Dont try to ride like an athlete, you will not be as sweaty.
3. Do this, find a retro style ladies bicycle, do it up, paint it perhaps, and then put a bunch of flowers in a basket on the front of it, and give it to her. If she does not appreciate that she is a bitch and not worth having.
Further. Riding a bicycle is pleasent and fun, and there is a difference between living like a porper and living sustainable.
@earwax8toecheese "I would ride a bike if I could". Exactly, what benefit do cars actually provide Vs their cost, both personally, and for society as a whole.
What people can do, is ride a bike when they can. We should get rid of the very big cars for a start, and make hybrid cars the big cars.. Downsize. It will have to happen, why delay the inevitable, and make the change when it happens more drastic.
I keep hearing "You will have to deal with less, your lifestyle will change" with the suggestion that a lifestyle change is akin to brain surgery without anesthetic. Won't people just learn to live with less? Do people pine for the way things used to be, as strongly as we assume they will long for this period? People will evolve when forced, the comforts they see as vital will be sorted out and folks will harden. Hopefully a lesson will be learned, but the lesson of the 70s oil didn't stick.
I bought gas today November 30 for $1.55 a gallon. I think it is criminal that the goverment has allowed the price to go this low. This gives the message to the public that there is no liquid fuels problem. So gas up! Fill your Hummer, snow mobile, dirt bike up. There is no shortage, and to make this worse there is 0 discussion of this on the main stream media.
It's like telling an alcholic you don't have a drinking problem, So go out and have a good time at the pub.
Disel at this time is somewhere above $2.50 a gallon, they should subsidise disel with the price of gas ie make disel cheaper so the trucker can make a living and keep on trucking our food and supplies and raise the price on gas to promote conservation
3 ACRE's of land and $45,000 and I can take a family of 4 and have them selling electricity to the power Grid and they will have enough fuel left over to use for 500 miles a month for transportation, no Oil. This Technology exist and it is being done right now in Florida.
Let's look at your numbers: 3 acres per family = almost 1/3 of the arable land in the US.
45k per family would enable every family in the US to set up any kind of off-grid home they wanted to, with money left over. If they went DIY, they can build a solar set up and a windmill AND a heat pump for, oh, say 10k (most of that for the heat pump). Why use all that arable land if that is the case?
Algea may be part of the future, but one thing we've learned: all eggs in one basket is BAD.
Furthermore, when talking about creating a new system, you not only have to set that up, but you have to change/get rid of the old. And that doesn't include building/modifying many millions of vehicles.
ubuibiok, you make sound pretty simple, you say "3 ACRE's of land and $45,000 & I can take a family of 4 and have them selling electricity to the power Grid and they will have enough fuel left over to use for 500 miles a month for transportation, no Oil."
You may not know this but the world is in a credit crisis, nobody is lending and unless you have $45,000 & the price for 3 acres then it is just an academic solution. US has 300 million people. You have to factor in the capital cost of this
Robert Hirsch was primary author of a report for the U.S. Department of Energy on "Peaking of World Oil Production: Impacts, Mitigation, and Risk Management" in February 2005. The 20 years mentioned in that report included the time not only to develop the new energy technology, but to get it broadly disseminated -- to build the infrastructure (suppliers, vehicles, etc.). What energy transformation do you think we can do in such a short time?
There are a lot more play list....search "Algae Fuel" here on YouTube.
Neptune Industries in south Florida is already selling Power back to the Grid.
Whats is even Better, there are current Power Plants using this method to clean up there CO2
output Exhaust and drastically reduce there carbon foot print.
In 2 to 3 years under a crash small Business Program, Power can flow back all over the existing grid with surplus Fuel ready to use in our Big Diesel Rigs.
In addition to Large Trucks, Aviation Fuel can also come from the same method and Plastics.
The less then 7 year estimate is based upon Auto manufacturers switching to 100% Diesel and Electric Engines and the removal of Gas and Gas engines from the market .

Look at global population before oil and as of this moment. When I did the math I was a little freaked out.
We should be dealing with this en masse as soon as possible. I'm expecting the worst.
Good luck.
