My first car was a 1974 Celica, attempting to get one as close to the first rally car they produced so believe me when I say I LOVE THEM! But as far as why Celica's stopped rallying was a 12 month ban in 1995 for using an illegal turbo. a HUGE embarrassment for Toyota even though the blame was left only with-in Toyota Europe. I too wish they had continued.
I like your videos Joost. For me that one was almost like driving fast down a country lane, It goes so fast you cannot blink, and the scene changes much like a road does. I thought it was brilliant.
Well, it's a tribute to Toyota, not Lancia. But I included the years were Lancia were beating them, though it was mostly a close call between the two.
The final scene of the Celica GT4 (1:27) is from Catalunya 1995, where they were banned from competition. I tried to be subtil, and slowely faded the scene from colour to grayscale.
Tragically, Ove Andersson died doing what he loves most: racing. He died in a rally in Africa on June 11. His contributions to Toyota's rallying and F1 racing programs have heavily impacted Toyota. RIP Ove Andersson
my first car was a sentra, my second a civic... and now i own a ST185 all trac and i wouldnt trade it for anything else!!! its simply raw power...

Toyota might be back as early as next year, but I think 2012 is more realistic, if the rumors are true.

Anyone have any idea of why they changed the Celica with a Corolla?
avensis92 3 years ago
maybe cuz they stopped making the celica? idk just a thought
brianthehawaiian 3 years ago
Celica is still in production today.
avensis92 3 years ago
really? i havent seen anything for a few years. i do know that they are bringing it back in 2009 though
brianthehawaiian 3 years ago
The Corolla was a much more compact car for one thing.
Sensekhmet 3 years ago
Well, the Corolla was probably more suited for the World Rally Car regulations. But marketing reasons obviously played a part in it too.

Excellent Video!
Lancia had beat Toyota in rally´s for several years, but the last version of the celica was a more competitive car for the Delta Integrale!

Nice video, but where are the clips of the Toyotas getting beaten by Lancias or Toyota being banned for cheating :-)
