  • if you notice in the opening in the theater it's crow and gypsy not crow and servo.

  • Tom Servo has shoulders of doom!

  • Joel says "When you got lemons, don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back!"

  • Anybody else frightened of the proto-Gypsy?

  • @fastrnb Me, very much so. I remember in one of the later episodes when Gypsy actually sits in on one of the movies, and after 5 minutes or so she goes ''This sucks!'' and leaves. Haha, good times.

  • Reminds me somewhat of early Devo (before they got a record contract)

  • To my knowledge it's Joel singing in all of the Joel episodes, and Mike singing in all of his episodes.

  • well mike certainly is a better singer than joel, that's for sure

  • @jhoch5

Mike was the only musician on the cast. He also wrote most of the songs from the skits.

  • what does ktma stand for

  • @leepeeleehammel That was the call letters for the small television station that the show was first aired on.

  • It took me ages to realise it's Joel singing this. Which is awesome.

  • 0:36

    Invaders from the Deep

  • I always wonder how they got all those He-man toys. I always had problems finding them as a kid.

  • where the two guys who shot him into space still called dr forrester and the guy before tvs frank or where they called something else

  • LA LA LA

  • Joel's hair! 8D *wuffles it* *shot*

  • 0:36 looks like a fucked-up version of Kryten from Red Dwarf.

  • Talk about "good ol' fashioned nightmare fodder", Cambot is terrifying.

  • I wish they'd watched some Supermarionation during the Comedy Central/SciFi Channel years.

  • Man that is a fucked up looking Cambot.

  • @rickbusinessman It's Cambot The Platypus

  • Ah...from humble beginnings to a cult phenomenon!

  • One person should really just relax.

  • ...Wow.

  • Joel says when you've got lemons, you make lemonade. I say freeze the lemons and throw them at jerks.

  • @PunchSydeiron Ahh, because nothing says "Revenge", like frost-bitten citrus.

  • I think the door closing sequence was a bit more lively and cooler than much of the Joel era, though not up to par with the Mike door sequence.

  • Kevin Murphy said in an interview that KTMA went bankrupt prior to the comedy channel picking up MST3K.

  • @timtrozzo Well, if it wasn't than it might've been stupid looking

  • Move over "The Simpsons," this is my new favorite show. I'll take a bullet for Joel or Mike.

  • Who knew somebody took the time & trouble of capturing that rare bit of footage...God Bless You!

  • 0:36 That's a puppet version of Kryten from Red Dwarf. It has to be.

  • My fave Joelie shots are at :07, :22, :37 & :42.

    :07 "Hi, Joel! Sweetie!"

:22 Smiling & looking so young & sweet.

:37 & :42 The lighting, the face, the hair, the androgyny, beautiful young Joeliecakes!

    I can't help it...Joel's just really neat!

  • Wow!

Those doors are so awesome. I wonder why they were scrapped...

    The intro's so different.

  • What's the name of that movie that they were watching at 0:35 ?

  • @PunchSydeiron "Thunderbirds Are Go"

  • @GriffithAMPS No, that's not it; not even close.

  • @PunchSydeiron no i'm sure that the orginial 1970s movie when they used puppets.

  • @GriffithAMPS According to Wikipedia's page for MST3K episodes, "Thunderbirds Are Go" wasn't in the KTMA section of the article. That's where my skepicism orignates. If what you're saying is true, then that means that Joel and Crow were riffing an episode that didn't even get aired on KTMA. Many seasons of many TV shows record episodes that don't get aired in the season in which they're produced (These are usually called "Holdover episodes.") (To be continued)

  • @GriffithAMPS (Continued from the previous comment) This possible holdover episode may have been filmed last in order in MST3K's series of KTMA "Season 0" episode. If what I've read is true, KTMA didn't renew MST3K for a second season. That might mean that when Joel and company might have never finished this episode after their apparent cancellation, seeing as nobody would see it. This footage might be the only part of that possibly unaired episode.

  • @PunchSydeiron okay, i see what you're saying :)

  • that was awesome i miss this show

  • Oh...oh God...oh my God...oh...God...

  • I like the old Satellite of Love. Someone should really ask Joel how to build one and post the instructions on the internet. And for that matter, the doggy bone-shaped on too.

  • lol Joel looks like a hippie

  • Legobot!

  • Wow, Joel looked like Kurt Cobain back then! And it's funny how originally Gypsy was supposed to be watching the films all the time, when, as the show went on, Gypsy only watched the films on very rare occasions.

Wow, this was before the Comedy Channel (Now Comedy Central) days! My mind is blown!

  • Great quality.

  • @sygo7g Count Floyd from SCTV anyone? WOOOOO, Thats SCARY!!!! OWWWW!

  • Cambot freaks me out the most x____x

  • Holy shit, Crow looked scary.

  • I like the actual one better. Maybe I am just more used to it.

  • I actually have a feeling this intro theme wasn't used until K03, because if you notice, Crow's beak can move properly during the robot roll call.

  • lol it's so awful

  • Wow...now THAT"S old school!

  • Never noticed before that the buttons for (whatever) sign was a Castle Name That Tune game.

  • Dear god. Gypsy was horrifying.

  • @GreenGearMood It makes you wonder if she got more screen time looking like that than when she was purple.

  • aww how cute was joel when he was a pup :D

  • Sounds like hippie music, not the techno in later, better seasons.

  • Joel really captured the sexy hamster look that was prevalent in the mid-1980's.

    Like, really. Mwar.

  • Fail? Now I feel glad I never saw season zero. Not nearly as good as 1-10. Nice quality recording, though.

  • Wow. Look at Joel.

  • I think I like the music of this intro the best out of all the versions. Probably because it was the one that was the most embedded in the 80's. The best episodes though were probably during the Sci-Fi channel era. By then the crew had really perfected their riffing craft.

  • The show was NOT public access... but it was made by a local TV station (local TV stations used to do more than show network TV, the news, and Jerry Springer... they used to produce their own shows!)

  • whats the movie at 0:36

  • Revenge of the Mysterians kinda like tha old Thunderbirds series

  • It kinda did. But the show called Stingray and the film was Invaders of the Deep I believe.

  • Whoa, what happened to the robots? They look different. On top of that, what happened to everything else? It ALL looks different.

  • They got a slightly larger budget?

  • Well, this was older than the show we all know, so I guess the robots just got changed over time.

  • They got a budget :P

  • Except for Crow who looks almost exactly the same! x3

  • They should put some of the KTMA eps on DVD.

  • There's actually an mst3k webiste where it has all the seasons seperate into dvds, including KTMA. :)

  • Wow! Thanks for the tip! I'll have to check that out! I think MST3k was the only public access TV show to become this famous!

KTMA, was that TV23 or TV4?

  • one of the Bee Gees!

  • cool i just saw castle grayskull from He man and masters of universe

    at end of credits

  • what year was this intro made in?

  • 1988

  • Oh, God bless Joel and his hippie hair!

  • Reminds me of Garth from Wayne's World

  • Cambot is good ole' fashion nightmare fuel

  • OH MY GOSH! Gypsy!!

  • Anyone thinks Joel, with those long flowing locks, looks like former Monkee Peter Tork? lol In any case Joel looks really cute, I always found him sexy

  • @wickedfeylady Oh YEAH! Hooray for "Hippie Joel" <3

I wanna jump in that pic and GLOMP JOEL!

    JOEL IS LOVE!

  • look at that long hair

  • YES! I am Minnesotan and I remember this! I suddenly feel made of awesome.

  • Great Quality. MST3K is a great show.

  • This was always one of my favorite shows. Used to stay up sooo late to watch this nonsense and laugh my butt off. I miss those days soo much. Stay a kid as long as you can!!!

  • Joel Hodgson with a mullet FTW!!!

  • I can't stop myself from saying Lalala...

  • @Qwack79

    Same here LMAO

  • @Qwack79 You're not the only one. I'm new to the show (even though my parents and family have watched this millions of times, I probably just don't remember), and I can't even stop from singing along, after hearing it once!

  • Even cheezier looking that the other intros. God I miss MST3K

  • Was Gypsy in the theater instead of Servo on the KTMA episodes? 'cause she is in this sequence.

  • No, that was just filmed for the opening sequence. In the pilot, Joel riffed by himself. In episodes K01 and K02, it was just Joel and Crow in the theater. By episode K03, the trio was complete. However, Gypsy did make an appearance in season 1, episode 12. Joel asked her to bring in some cotton because Servo asked what cotton felt like. She also joined them to riff the movie in season 4, episode 12. Although she became annoyed with how bad the movie was and left within the first 10 minutes.

  • i love his long hair.neaten it up and BAM it would be so cute.this is vintage.joels cute

    God bless

oh and dr f has no stache

  • Amusing. Joel has a mullet.

  • Good times

  • its just the name of the first station they were on

  • damn thats vintage...good stuff...true fan

  • what's KTMA stand for?

woa, this is really old isn't it?

  • KTMA was the Minneapolis local UHF station at which MST3K was developed in the late 80's before going to cable.
