Good introduction to Setsuko Hara's work. I recommend Kurosawa's "No Regrets for Our Youth," and Ozu's "Tokyo Story," "Late Spring," Early Summer" and "Late Autumn" for those who want more.
I'd never seen Setsuko Hara colder than in "The Idiot" she was amazing in that movie (as in all her other work) She had this intense, deeply hate-ful stare-down with another actress who frequented the screen of Kurosawa's films. Kurosawa brought out the best performances in his actors and Ozu was just perfect.
Great Choices, Ozu expressed the beauty in life - even when it wasn't beautiful. Too Too bad there aren't any English subtitles, my French is kind of rusty.
I don't know French, but you don't need to to watch this. Ms. Hara was a great actress and is beautiful, with big, pretty dark eyes. She is mesmerizing in every film that I've seen her in. I truly feel she's one of the greatest actresses ever, from any country. Thank you for this doc, it just reinforces how beautiful, elegant & truly wonderful she is.
She still alive in Tokyo !!

Akama: Afraid of a mere girl?
Taeko: Yes. I'm afraid to even look at her. She's the soul of my beautiful dreams. She has everything I've lost.
