  • Toyota will make sure there is some difference between the FRS and the BRZ. Im also guessing the brz is going to cost more because if you look at the specs, everything comes standard.

As for the people dissing scion, I agree with you, but at the same time, Toyota is the number 1 brand. Their experts> all the other experts.

  • Drop scion.

    end of story.

  • Whoo gives a damn about the car name! Its looks & performance what its all about! And personally I would take it as a Scion. Why? Because its been doing well with its other Makes&Models. If its trying to attract teens into buying it as their 1st or maybe 2nd car, its doing a hell of a job because its so well designed in looks. Soo FUCK the damn badges, make it any of those brands and ill just rip of the badge and put a Transformers logo on the front & back!

  • @JNVE1 would you buy a brand known as teen car or a car known for its motorsports performance?

    Exactly.

  • J.F. StopTalking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Do not want it as a Scion and will NOT buy it now if it becomes a Scion. Get the hint Toyota.

  • toyota, save your money and some face and just badge it as what it is...TOYOTA...not some soul-less poser brand like scion...keep at it, Toyota...its not the competition that's been driving nails down your coffin for the last decade...

  • I think it's hilarious to think JF's and a few dozen FLD subscribers opinions are how the entire American public will perceive the FR-S. People that have owned Scions love them for their practicality, comfort, as well as that little bit of spunkyness.

  • @JTarn1987 Too bad for you that there aren't a lot of Scion owners out there, and real Toyota enthusiasts absolutely LOATHE the brand. FT86 is Toyota, end of story. This video is spot on.

  • @crackaddict444 Speak for yourself. I'm as real as a Toyota enthusiast as they come, my last 4 cars were Toyota's, and I know Scion is exactly what they need to draw in younger customers. Scion has fell off the radar due to a lack of new models, the FT86 is EXACTLY what they need to bring people back. It's just plain ignorant to think a brand can't bounce back, look at Hyundai 5 years ago and look at them now.

  • @JTarn1987 OOooo you're last 4 cars were Toyotas. I have 4 Toyotas as we speak and there have been over 30 of them in my family. Scion is not needed. Period. It is irrelevant, a waste of money, and quite frankly one of the biggest blunders Toyota has ever done. There is no reason at all that Toyota can't attract younger buyers. Buyers want the Celica, Supra and MR2 back, they don't want crappy Scions with names nobody can even remember. Nobody cares about Scion bouncing back, we want Toyota back

  • @crackaddict444 LOL if u want to bring family into this, worldwide our family has owned well over 100 in the last 40 years. You've forgotten Scion did extremely well the first couple years after they launched. Scion has HUGE potential to make a comeback, with cars like the FT86. Again if u don't believe me look at Hyundai. 5 years ago they were the Korean company that built cheap econoboxes and now almost all of their cars are near the top of their class. If Hyundai can turn it around Scion can.

  • @JTarn1987 Guess you've been ignorant to all the discussion boards from actual potential buyers of this car and how they're vomiting at the thought of this being a Scion. And you're tarted up Yaris or Avensis if you have tC doesn't have spunk. Literally every Toyota right down to the Tercel and Paseo kill everything Scion has ever made. It's time we get our Toyota sports cars back in America and time that little parasite Scion dies a horrible death.

  • @crackaddict444 And you think a couple of discussion boards speak for the entire US population? Scion still sells relatively well compared to other niche car brands. You would be completely ignorant if you think the FT86 would be a worse car just because it has a Scion badge. That's like saying the Corvette is crappier because it's a Chevy not a Cadillac.

  • @JTarn1987 What other "niche" brands are there? Scion is failing. Nobody cares about it making a comeback. We want the Toyota brand sports cars back. Scion is a waste of money that should go to Toyota and Lexus.

  • @crackaddict444 Just to name a few niche brands: Saab, Buick, Volvo, Saturn, Hummer, Jeep, Smart, Mini, Fiat... should I continue? With the exception of Jeep, Mini and maybe Volvo, Scion is doing better than all those brands. Just because YOU don't care about Scion doesn't mean other people don't. There are loyal Toyota fans that know Scion has HUGE potential to make a comeback if they keep on cranking out cars like the FT86.

  • @JTarn1987 Saab isn't a niche brand, they're just a comatose luxury brand raped to death by GM.. Buick outsells Scion by a huge margin and isn't a niche brand either. Volvo is a luxury brand whose cheapest car is several thousands of dollars more than the most expensive Scion, Fiat just came to the US and hasn't even been here a year, and Hummer and Saturn are DEAD. Scion outsells 2 dead brands, Saab, and a brand that just got here. Scion sales have been in the shitter for 5 years.

  • @crackaddict444 Do you even know what a niche brand is? It's when an automaker caters their vehicles to only one specific type of buyer. Volvo is all about safety, Buick is affordable luxury/old people, Hummer and Jeep are all about offroading, and Mini/Fiat/Smart are all about small distinctly euro cars. Now that Saturn is dead, Scion is the ONLY brand that specifically targets teens and twenty-somethings. It's quite brilliant for Toyota to keep Scion alive.

  • @JTarn1987 Hilarious. Look how well those supposed "niche" brands did. GM had a brand that was called Pontiac that was a sporty car/young person "niche" brand. Tell me, where can I buy a new Pontiac?? Niche brands are huge wastes of money. Nissan doesn't have a Scion type brand, nor does Honda, Hyundai, Kia, GM, Ford, or even fucking Chrysler. And they all can get younger buyers into the brand. Scion is useless and Toyota knows it, but has too much pride to kill it. They willl eventually, though

  • @crackaddict444 You keep on talking sales. Hyundai/Kia could also be considered niche brands up to 5 or 6 years ago. If sales are all that matters to you, just look at how Hyundai/Kia came back. If Scion consistently came out with good cars no one in their right mind would think they couldn't come back. Would you really not buy an awesome car like the FT86 just because it's a Scion? Really dude you need to get over it.

  • @JTarn1987 Even H/K sold more than Scion back then. I don't give a shit about Scion recovering. READ MY LIPS. I want them dead so Toyota doesn't continually waste money on this irrelevant, garbage making brand. And yeah, I'm not going to buy the FT86 because of the Scion badge and neither are lots of disappointed fans. Even industry experts are questioning this retarded move and wondering why Toyota doesn't fold Scion back into their brand. Scion will fall soon, you better prepare yourself.

  • @crackaddict444 I got some bad news for you Toyota has NO PLANS TO END SCION. Scion will probably be around longer than you. Just because YOU don't like the brand does not mean Scion does not have HUGE potential. Go ahead and buy a Camry when for the same money you could've had the purely awesome FT86. You must be ignorant if you think Toyota is going to take the opinions of a couple hundred people on a forum who probably don't own Scions over their own R&D.

  • @JTarn1987 Ahh, the precious Scion fanboys thinking their brand is infallable. Look around the internet. There are several commentaries from industry experts who are saying that Scion is a bad idea and isn't sustainable. Hell, this very video that we're commenting on says Scion isn't a good idea! You're out of your mind if you think this brand is going to stick around long term. I guarantee it won't. There will not be Scion in 10 years, maybe not even 5. Toyota themselves know Scion is failing.

  • @crackaddict444 Ooook you can trust the so called "experts" or you can believe the word straight from the horse's mouth. Toyota just announced they will be selling electric versions of the Scion iQ. Let's see in the next 2 years Toyota has confirmed Scion will release a high MPG subcompact, an EV, and and a high performance sports car. You'd better believe Scion is in it for the long term. You will not live to see the day Scion fails!

  • @JTarn1987 LOL, too bad for you those cars will fail, and will end up being badged as Toyotas after Toyota cuts their losses and kill Scion. Scion will not be here in 5 years. Count on it.

  • @crackaddict444 LOL @ YOU... Scion won't be around? Says who? You and maybe one or two "experts??" Can you back up any of that up? Where are the articles or Toyota news blogs that says Scion won't be around?? FACT: Scion is releasing 3 all new vehicles in the next 2 years. FACT: Current xB and xD will be redesigned next year. You won't live to see the day Scion folds. Count on it!

  • What is the difference between Subaru,Toyota, and Scion?

  • I love my scion. It's all I'll ever own from now on.

  • I dont give a shit who makes the car, just make it worthy. All of you who feel branding is important in this situation are retards. You know who makes the car...bottom line. JF is just superficial. If this car is sold as a Toyota this car will get such a mark-up at the dealer it will not be funny. So to all who wont buy the car because its not "your" brand cool, I'll buy two and in ten years I'll sell them for a grreat profit....just like Supras.

  • This is so lame, who cares if its under the Scion Brand? if its a great car its a great car, goes to show how superficial some people can be, cough cough JF.. just because of a badge you wouldn't buy it? And Toyotas Last forever, Subaru not so much.

  • ill tae a suburu.. STI all day.. i cant lie i work for toyota and love them, but i think suburu stands for performance. And i have to be honest this FR-S looks amazing!!

  • why will anyone want a subaru badge on their car?!

  • If it's 20k and scion, i don't care. I'll rebrand it Toyota.. Lexus is a Toyota is a Scion. Shit i'll probably rebrand it subaru

  • I would rip out the engine and drop in an sti powertrain. Who cares about the badge, it needs 300 plus hp or else I'm getting a sport package 370z.

  • Subaru, no idea why :) annnd I own a subaru already.

  • i think it would be much better to release it as a scion because if you compare the toyota zelas (the toyota version of the tc) and the scion tc, the tc is lower, has a better stock head unit for the sound system and just looks a lot cooler and more sporty over all.

  • If they stick crap Scion badge on that car i will put a Toyota Corolla badge on mine, a name means nothing it is about make a quality product. Why don't they just drop the 1.8L Toyota I4 in there anyway, it works great in the Lotus Elise, I love my 2010 Toyota Corolla and 2007 Matrix. I know the Celica GT-S had 180 Hp, not bad.

  • I would prefer it as a Subaru, but I would still buy it even if it were a Scion. I like to see new(er) companies doing good things. I would like to buy a Hyundai Genesis Coupe if I had the money also.

  • I'd take a Subaru. But it needs to be AWD.

  • the same thing will hapen to the scion ft86 than with the acura nsx and rhe cadilac xlr we love the ptototype but will we rely buy this car

  • the scion would probebly bee cheeper than the subaru

  • the scion would probebly bee cheeper than the subaru

  • Get rid of the scion branding & put Toyota on the FT 86, is Toyota afraid of being who they are? do they have insecurity issues or what?

  • @Law19157 scion is toyota

  • @enine2007 ....so the discussion is about the Scion branding that Toyota has, I was saying the Toyota doesn't need it they should just stick to the Toyota badge and put it on FT-86 II, like Leo was saying manufactures using different badges like GM does doesn't always work out

  • @Law19157 true true

  • Fuck scion, toyota needs to bring back the FT-86II!

  • @iTziLLUMY scion is toyota lol scions have toyota engines

  • people are stupid. I could car less what badge is on the car, a car is a car. it's about what's under the hood and how well made it is.

  • i'd take a toyota version of the ft 86 as my first choice, but i'd still much rather have a scion over a subaru. from my perspective subaru has just been turning to crap lately (their cars have been getting uglier and uglier and Mitsubishi has just started overtaking them in the rally market). and although scion is getting quite a bit of bad rep in the states now, where i live in canada, is growing very quickly. with that said, i'd still prefer a toyota any day

  • 'badging doesn't matter'? I think it does. Honestly, when we hear the word Scion, what do we think? I, for one, automatically think of that nasty fricken box. Or I think of every ricer TC I've ever seen. I don't think performance. This is a performance car. If you branded it Toyota, people would automatically think it's the replacement Supra, seeing as it's RWD. That is a GOOD thing. Brand it a Scion, I think people would be a little inclined to say it's a glorified RWD tC. Translation: BAAAD!!!

  • the thing about this car is that it is amazing looking (well in my opinion) and all the renditions of it bring a happy thought to my mind in what toyota can become. but to be honest it kinda made me rethink it when i saw that it was a scion. I like the tC, almost had one, but i almost think that it would have done better as a toyota badged car as well. the point is that they are great cars but that badging IS important because it reflects the company. on this it should reflect toyota.

  • The Badging does not matter. Sure I'd love to see a new Supra, but think of it like this. The tC is based on the Celica platform. Toyota Celica...first letter in each word? T and C. tC. Scion is basically becoming a performance branch of Toyota. Like the tC we may be seeing a reincarnation of a Supra. Perhaps a Scion tS?

  • @ArmadeusXxC Just to clear some things up, The tC officially stands for "Touring Coupe". The tC is on the Toyota Avensis chassis, not the Celica's. But in a sense, your are somewhat right, because the tC is more of a "spiritual successor" to the Celica than an actual replacement. :)

  • @GTjersi91 Okay! That...actually makes more sense than my goofy theory.

  • I'm from europe so I don't know much about Scion. But I'm a rear wheel drive fan and I also kind of hate Toyota because of Prius. I would not like to be sitting in a FT-86 Toyota and knowing that i have the same badge as a Prius. So I would go for a Subaru. And if Subaru will make their style all wheel drive (all the time) not like quattro or 4matic, then I am sure I would go for a Subaru.

  • Scion is cheaper but JF is not in touch with the real world

Toyota has this cheaper line called scion the real question is why would I pay more for a great car if it is the same under two different brands?

  • Subaru hands down, Scion sucks. Toyota has killed off every good car they have ever made. I.E. AE86, Celica GT-Four, MR-2, Supra. Subaru is the only real chance this car has of being successful.

  • the new Hachiroku

  • I would buy the Toyota if it was named the FT-86 i wouldn't look at the Subaru or the Scion. Even if the Subaru was faster from the Factory. I'd buy the Toyota because its a Tuner Car. People would buy it because of its heritage in the tuner world.

Musicals and Leo you guys are awesome.

  • if it was badged toyota i would buy the toyota. if the subaru was more powerful around the sameprice subaru all the way and u guys are right. scion....FAIL....... FLD RULES!

  • Scion fail, is suppose to be for young people and I only see mostly old people driving them.

  • I dont care what the branding it will be. I know who built it and know whats in it. The only other thing i care about is the price. Give me the same car with two different prices, I'll take the cheaper one regardless of what the plastic symbols on it mean.

  • subaru

  • Scion needs to expand its market. Scion is only really available in the US, but Canada is still a huge market for smaller cars like Scion.

  • Personally, If Toyota produces the car under the Scion brand, and it doesn't sell very well, and say for instance, the whole brand flops, the limited numbers of FR-S they did actually sell may end up bringing some big cash numbers years down the line, even if it does flop. Only because the car looks like it should. If the car is a success, it may push Toyota to bring the Supra back. Still though, Toyota should brand it as a Toyota.

  • I agree, a new supra would be great BUT the FT86 goes back to the ae86, a completely different but equally amazing car. The lightweight, high power-low displacement engine ae86 is iconic for just those reasons whereas the supra is a japanese "muscle car", big engine, lots of weight. It would be stupid to try and appeal to both audiences and I feel that if they're going to make a car to meet either expectation, it should be one or the other.

    Personally I'm a ae86 fan!

  • My only fear with Toyota branding it as a Toyota would be they will get in their heads that its the new supra, so they will price it like so... where as if they put a scion badge on it, it'll be pitted against the Hyundai genesis coupe, and the Mazda rx8... and hopefully at that price point... and if subi decides to make it in rwd, they will loose all my respect!

Don't get me wrong, out of all the cars I just listed, I'd still have the Mazda, but if I had to say, I'd prefer it have a scion badge

  • Subaru over Scion ... But Toyota over Subaru/Scion.

  • We all know Toyota can be capable to attract the younger generation and the tuner market with Supra. Ask anybody, "What are the top three tuner imports?" They would be likely have the Supra in there next to the Skyline and the Civic. Drop the Scion brand and come back to the 90's when Toyota's sport sector was at one of they're very best.

  • I think that between a scion and a subaru, everybody will go for subaru. why? well scion will make you look like any other kid out there with exhausts and wings and shitty body kits on their tc or xb. BUT! if it was a Toyota or a Subaru.... I will definitly go for a Subaru (thats if it comes in awd and turbo charged) for others maybe a Toyota since rear wheel drive is popular among the drifters, and people these days love to go side ways. But we'll see, eiter way.. scion is fucked! Goodbye! lol

  • Scion is like Fanta soda. Sure it tastes great, but who's picking a Fanta over a Coke or Pepsi brand? Not that Scion is bad at all but nobody want's to spend all that money on something that is pegged as the "kids brand".

  • @perfectclone25 Except that Fanta is owned by Coca-Cola...

Anyway, comparing the Toyota and Subaru here would be like comparing Coke and Pepsi, as it does seem to be pretty much the same car. Toyota vs Subaru I'd pick Toyota (if Subaru didn't make that terrible Impreza hatchback I'd pick Subaru), but who the fuck wants to buy a Scion

  • Fuck scion

  • this ft86 should hopefully be the new supra!!

  • here in the middle east or specifically qatar we dont have scion we have the tc though but its a toyota called the toyota zelas!

HAHAHA long live ARABS (cuz we dont have scion) !!!!!!

  • I didn't realize that Scion needed saving with them opening dealers here in Canada like cany shops!!

  • I'd take a Toyota over a Subaru any day.. i just don't like the look of Subarus. That said, Toyota needs a new great sportscar. This iteration of the FT 86 looks fucked in my opinion. Every new version has looked worse than the one before it.

As many others said... GIVE US ANOTHER SUPRA DAMMIT!!!

  • @Cruzboy Considering Toyota owns a big portion of Subaru so i would rather take a Toyota also.

  • If it were branded as a Toyota I would definitely buy it. But, then again, I grew up in the 80's and the Toyota brand was a different animal back then. This was back when they were really hungry to beat every other car maker, and it came out in their products. They over-engineered everything to go the extra mile. When I think of a tough truck, I think of an 80's toyota. I just hope that this new car it isn't a half-hearted attempt at a sports car. If it is then it does deserve the scion name.

  • I Like the new Scion version but hate the fact it is now, a scion. I would much rather have it branded as a toyota. I wish cars would stop trying to be something they are not or I wish I just didn't know about it; acura, lexus, infiniti, etc... BUT, I am SOOO with JF, if subie releases a AWD version thats not too far out there with fins and wings. Then its my opinion it will be WAY more successful than the toyota version.

  • I am not sure I understand your opinion on the Scion brand. Maybe because the xD is not that great? I am pretty happy with the Scion brand in general, owning a xA, but I don't care much about the brand as such. Quality is what counts. If the interior of the Subaru version looks like a typical Subaru inside, no way I would buy one. Subaru are pretty ugly in general anyway, in my opinion, only the sport version WRX are cool.

  • Nice talk. Fun to watch you guys talk about new cars. I would spend money on a Subaru instead. The name is enough. And with all-wheel-drive.. thats like icing on the cake! Turbo-charged is even better!

  • WAAAY better with leo

  • thanks for blasting my ears

  • To scion, sorry, i was a fan of your company till I felt like you guys can't come up with any better designs and better pricing for what you are offered.

You now feel what hyundai/Kia once went through. Now you're eating they're dusts.

If only you guys brought back the Supra for Toyota, then everything will be fine.

But Hyundai is kicking your ass!! HA

    Hyundai for the win!

to all hyundai haters, look at where scion is now and see where the two company hyundai and scion are. think

  • Hyundai has they're own designs!

Toyota is what it is, "toy".

And the old guy is right, Toyota has no personality!

  • Toyota as a brand is dead as my grandmother's cat right now, just rotting in the attic somewhere and it makes her house smell funny. The Celica is gone, and the Supra has been given to Lexus as something that they don't make money on, and only extremely rich people can buy. It's time to go back to your roots Toyota. Where are the cars that are affordable, but serve as a great tuner base for something to tear up the track with? Gone with management's old age perhaps.

  • gotta consider the fact that they're trying to get in the minds of kids, which if you like at it from a simple standpoint tells you two things. One, most teens don't buy a car for the horsepower or any of that other fun stuff, they want the most agressive looking car, the "poster car." Two, this car is going to have a Subaru sourced power plant and it has that agressive styling, which will raise the price...kids don't have a lot of money.

  • toyota should bring back rwd awd and fwd corolla and a new supra

  • I agree, bring it back as a Toyota. IDK what they're doing but they're destroying their name and heritage. When I think of Toyota, I don't think personality (with the exception of the LF-A and this new concept). They really need to go back to the days of fun but serious cars like the turbo MR2, Celica GTs and Supras.

  • LEO for road testament!!

  • Scion sucks... Should have stayed a Toyota..!!

  • i wouldn't buy any of them

  • Alex and JF are just boring. Leo and DD should do all the episodes between them.

    SACK ALEX AND JF...

  • There's a reason why Toyota chose to brand it as a Scion in the US. Scion was made to be directed at younger buyers. Whereas, Toyota kept making those boring old cars to be geared towards more grown up buyers (like soccer moms, and small business owners). Lexus is geared towards those that want a luxury vehicle and so forth. I don't really care whether it's branded as a Scion, Lexus or Toyota, because at the end of the day, all the cars are made by the same manufacturer.

  • If identical Subaru (same price too or very close)

IF RWD toyota and AWD subaru then toyota

  • No i wan the Fr-86 to be a replacement for teh AE-86, with 4 cylinder cheap car.. bring back the Supra as a different car, i want to be able to afford this.

  • If both cars (or all three cars) were identical, I would buy the car that had the nicer interior and/or better seats.

The Genesis was Hyundai's halo car in the sense that it brought a lot of positive attention to the brand. The FT86 could easily do the same for Toyota.

  • Leo should do every video for FLD. fire everyone else.

  • Silly ppl, I wont buy starbucks anymore if they change the logo! Thats exactly how these comments sound in regards to I'd buy it if it were badged Toyota. Please, get a grip.

  • @thomast626 well its not THAT ridiculous if you think about it. you buy that cup of coffee you will deal with that change in logo for about an hour tops. this is a car that most people will have for at least ten years. yes it may seem a bit over the top but in this respect these two badges mean two different things, and send different messages to customers. that cup of coffee with a simply different symbol on a cup is not the same as two histories behind a symbol of a car.

  • @MattSSV Seriously, if you DO live in America, who cares about Scion

  • Seriously, if it is badged Toyota I'll buy, but not Scion. Sorry!

  • Comment removed

  • The fact is that this car is going to sell no matter what they badge it. Everyone watching this video is doing so because we love cars in general. Unfortunatley, in my opinion, we are the minority. There are so many people out there that have no clue about sub brands. They don't know that BMW makes Mini or that Acura is a Honda or even that Toyota makes Lexus and Scion. They simply buy cars bacause, for what ever reason, they like them. For that reason this car will sell no matter what the badge

  • great show

  • Agree with the move to rebadge the scion as a toyota. I would buy the Toyota FT-86 not so much the Scion FR-S.

Between Toyota vs Subaru... I'd buy the Toyota. Toyota as a brand has more stake in U.S. than Subaru does. Also Toyota has been responsible for some great cars even ones outside of the ethusiast realm.

Leo what did you do at Toyota? Engineer, Sales, Manufacturing? Was looking to work for them as engineer but was wondering how you liked it there?

  • I want it a toyota, im debadging this to a toyota if i get this frs

  • @glerink lol i mentioned the debadging before you guys said, and i would buy it scion but deep inside my heard its toyota after debadging

  • I want a toyota not a gayon

  • Yep the Scion brand isn't here is Australia, so it would be Toyota if it came he.

But better be boosted with a bit of power to sell down here - it's small but heavy.

  • i would not by a scion

  • Maybe a 370Z doesn't look so bad after all. Come on Toyota.

  • you guys should do all road testaments with leo

  • if i was dumb and had no idea scion is a toyota... never in this world i would buy the scion... infact i'm a car guy and i know all of this... I would never buy a scion... i wouldn't be able to feel pat of the cool kids club with a scion... With a toyota badge on it, definitly, with a suburu badge on it... i'd feel cooler then the others... But Scion... i know the dumbass's out there wouldn't know it's basicly toyota and wouldn't feel the the same as if they saw a toyota or suburu badge on it!

  • I believe Toyota will potentially, kill the heritage and and potential cul status that the FT-86 could achieve be branding it as a scion considering for all intensive reasons it is the re-incarnation of the AE-86 and could be just as popular. I would definatly prefer to see it as a Toyota, but a will buy it if it came as a Scion and just rebadge it as a Toyota. Why couldn't they just us a turbo charged version of the Carolla S's motor instead of a Subaru Motor ?

  • Subaru = Unique market identity

    Toyota = Bland market identity

    Scion = Unknown market identity

The truth is who is this car meant for?

Style says Subaru. The hope is it re-identifies what Scion is. The truth is that Toyota has lost its way.

  • toyota? if it had in a usable 3s-ge BEAMS or newer 2l motor with some new tech like Gasoline direct injection > subaru...if it was a 3litre flat 6 and maybe rear wheel drive> scion, lol wat?

  • let scion die. Let toyota expand their base, and let the FT-86 BE AFFORDABLE! That's the big thing there! if they can make it affordable, I feel it would dominate sales.

As far as it becoming a subaru product: sounds good if they make it AWD. Otherwise, I don't care.

  • I wouldnt buy a Toyota Scion or Lexus because they are boring and shitty and i hope they go under

  • fuk you scoin

  • toyota by far

  • Am I the only person who isn't stupid enough to give a shit what the badging is?

  • Am I the only person that remembers the acura Integra and the jdm Honda Integra nobody cared what it was named because it's the same damn car. People are so stupid. Everyone wants the return of the supra which by today's standards would cost more than most of us watching video could afford. When scion was created it brought a slew of dealer warrantied performance parts even turbo and supercharger kits. Subaru does not stand behind their accessories and if they break it's your problem and Subaru

  • I would get the Toyota because I am a huge fan of the AE-86 and I would love to have the resurrected one.

  • Subaru's marketing team is commiting suicide. Years of branding and braggin their cars as AWD and now a RWD car pops up.

  • I want the AE86 back :((

  • subaru needs to stay awd.

  • I love LEO Parente!!!!! DUMP that webcam shit with Alex!! LOL@ MR2 Badge bil!!

  • Engine swap turbo flat4 into rwd >.>

  • Its called a 216a and yes they have released concept photos that show differences between the Toyota FT86 and Subaru 216a. Different head and tail lights, different grille, different front bumper, different foglights, 216a will have largers dimensions and more hp.

  • the S12 200sx was always better than the AE86 Corolla GTS. I wish Nissan would remake that.

  • other brands like ford, hyundai, etc have changed my mind about their brand just by creating a better new car or improving one.

you cant judge a book or movie by its cover or name.

i cant promise that it would be one of the best in its class but it sure will be one of toyota/scion's best car for almost 16 or 17 yrs(supra) its a rwd platform. if they make it turbo then even better. besides they have trd making other performance parts for it which is even a bigger bonus.

  • i honestly dont care about brand. if the cars good, its good.

if one is scion, and ones subaru with exact specs then i would have to see both first.

now if subaru offers awd or a turbo version like a wrx or sti, then i will definitely go to subaru.

toyota can put it under toyota or scion it doesnt matter, at first it can give mixed feelings just because its a scion, but after a while people will start to know what that "scion" actually is capable of.

  • Subaru for sure. Brand power. I agree they should have their own AWD version though.

  • i agree with jf, subaru no matter what

  • yes no alex! keep it that way guys plz :)

  • I own 4 toy's 1971corolla wagon,85 (ae86),87 fx16gts, 2007 avalon touring. I bleed toyota... No scion for me, Toyota has gone soft since they killed the supra. TRD also is gone so sad :(

  • @elfocker amen brother!

  • subaru for me

  • I think Toyota should just get rid of Scion, rename the tc the celica, and just get rid of the twin box-mobiles. As far as the two FT-86's go, I think the enthusiasts would buy the Subaru version, and people who just want a stylish car (like a majority of the people who buy a v6 mustang) would buy a toyota. Just my .02

  • any thing toyota

  • I would buy a subaru. I would only buy the ft 86 if it had a Toyota motor and was not a scion

  • If they called it the "Toyota Supra" I'd buy it over Subaru's name any day. Anyone else?

  • @LaenPvP i think less people would buy it cuz they would pretty much be disgracing the supra

  • I like debadging a car

If your not a car person you'll have no idea what I'm driving

  • JF.. is that a Schauer watch??? Great taste if so. Have the sportstop myself

  • make it a toyota and put bigger engine and rebirth the SUPRA

  • I would buy a subaru

  • If it was a Scion, wouldn't buy it, if it was a Toyota, wouldn't buy it, if it was a Subaru, I'd buy it!

  • If they're identical cars, I'll go with whichever is cheaper. I don't care what the badge says. Switch badges if it bothers you that much.

  • yeah scion is a waste of space :s

  • Dear Toyota,

I would pay your company for that exact car if it were badged a Toyota, had a turbocharged 6 cylindar motor, and was called a Supra. How about it?

    Your friend,

  • @hicasi6tt

sounds like you're looking for a gtr

  • ever since Scion debuted, each model and iteration has made me wretch in disgust. The tC was the only exception, and that was just tolerable. Branding the FT-86 as a Scion is a huge mistake. That car has a chance of bringing some life and passion back to the Toyota portfolio, something that would just be wasted on the Scion brand, which has lost any desirability with the xA and xB vehicular miscarriages.

  • easy choice, subaru. its like asking someone to choose jordans over some sneakers in payless.

  • that scion front bumper looks a bit like a 911 its pretty cool. hope they are interchangeable for all ft-86

  • IMO it should be a Toyota and should be the reincarnated Celica. THERE is your brand recognition.

Also, I give it an 80% chance they fundamentally wouldn't be the same car because Subaru would put a boxer in their version (which is why I would choose it, regardless of whether it's RWD or AWD).

Either way, it could be worse. They could decide not to offer it in stickshift. Oh yes, it could be much worse, indeed.

  • Kill Scion entirely. Rebadge Scion's as Toyotas. Make the FT-86 as an AWD Subaru OR make it RWD and call it a Supra.

  • why not release it as a lexus?

  • @fxtfusion It makes sense to do that in a way. Their other true sporty cars the IS-F and the LFA are both Lexus. The problem is if it were a lexus it would be considered a more high end sports luxury car like a BMW and would be offered at a much higher price. I think the point of this car is to be a fun sporty car offered at a price anyone could afford and aimed at the younger tuning crowd. While scion is marketed as car for customization it would be a stretch to call any of them sporty.

  • good episode. Keep Leo in the road testement
