I fish a golf course all the time, and one hole has a beautiful pond... but its covered in lili pads.... we used to just not fish there, but then we discovered Zoom horny toads, we have moved on from those and our now on ribbits!... no one else around knows how to fish their so the place never gets fished.... 10 lb 9oz largemouth is our biggest catch outta their... and guess what? it was on a ribbit
@trophyfisher13 lol same here dude tell me if you like em becuase i wanted scum frogs but i think these would be way better now and you would never have the problem with them filling with water
@177gaga dude i picked up some black ones and the first one i used, the nose ripped off on about the 10 fish. BUT the second one lasted allll the way up until today... no frekkin lie dude. the are actualy very durable, especialy with owner twist lock hooks..
They dont get water in them at all. I love ribbit frogs, but i like frogs that have more action such as popping and walking and chuging... No hard feelings :)
Listen to what he says at the end about the eleven o clock part seen a lot of guys miss big fish on early hooksets on a frog. Skeet spo's suck they fill up with water.
I have spent few hundred bucks on these frogs. Black bull and White bull frog with the double take hook. #6. I have used these since the season opened in WI. I am hooked I can't stop fishing these things. Today I cought a 44 inch Muskie 15 lb. in my 180$ kayak. The frogs last a long time. They can be fished really slow even stop and jerk them. I tend to steady real in but at times I change it up and when I do I hook up with something.
I LOVE these!!! The strikes are like somebody dropped a brick on your bait! You can even let it sink just abit in the weed pockets and twitch it... GREAT lure.
ive fished both rage tail and ribbit i just spent 130 bucks on ribbits im totally sold on them i caught 6 bass yesterday abd 3 today and probably would have had more but i missed hooks more then half the time i was fishing melon and pearl bull larger then regular with tokar 5/0 w/corkscrew stopped missing later on near evening i used melon with red flake i totally suggest tokar hooks they cost more but well worth it
@nico4kp2 lol i used them in the keys in open water near the bays , if you're familiar with the famous pier down there where the bottom glass boat is, i hooked a tarpen using the frog LOL its not even native to that area.
Far out. I guess I've been fishing these types of frogs too slow. They're pretty much using them as buzz baits. With angry top water bass like that, I wonder if zipping just about anything over their heads at that speed would induce just as many strikes.
not all the time like a jitterbug that is more medium to low speed when a buzz bait is more fast pace over lilly pads or weeds it all depends on the type of topwater your fishing
i love this frog i buy the new high floaters in bulk, i fish them in thick hydrilla and in algea the thicker the better the fish are extremely explosive its the best time ive had fishing
by letting it sink i've caught at least 5 bass ranging from 4lbs to 7lbs. I've fished it on top (hard to set the hook unless they swallow it) and twitching it on the bottom, best luck was sinking.
To date the best lure. Ive been using these lures scence the prespawn in 09. Fishing them Topwater/ Bottom/ or in the middle. Let me tell ya, Awsome!! Show me the money babe!!
I love these frogs, i hooked an 8pounder with the baby bass. how fast do you fish it? I dont' fish mine anywhere near as fast as this video, maybe I should.
I fish mine bumping the bottom at a slow retrieve, using a Gamakatsu EWG hook with XPS 3/8 hook weights. Ive never seen it used in open water. Ive away's used it in Shady cover, on clear hot day's when it's in the upper 80's. Water temps in the 80's too.
I also like to fish it by pulling it up and letting it sink, I've caught quite a few bass doing this. I've wondered about using it on the bottom like you say, I'll give it a try, I bought some of their weighted hooks to use with them too.
I mainly like to flip in into cover, with hardly any splash and try to keep a stealthy Presintation. Letting it sink to the bottom and then slowly retrieve it.
I was using these today and the topwater fishing was slowing down so i fished it really slow like a swim bait. It landed me a decent 3lb bass. Not bad for being 98 degrees outside haha.
Kovic, By now I hope you have tried this.. These frogs are amazing. I used them from shore and have very good success. I fished them with NO weight and had a truly awesome day.
I had alot more success with this fishing it slow and in the twilight hours around 7p to 8p central time, or that is when I would catch the most anyway...You will not be dissapointed.
Here in North Central Georgia, this lure fished around grass weeds, stumps and blow downs is a big bass lure. Be sure to use 30# spider wire braid so you can horse the fish out with the weeds it dives into.
I have a few questions.. first, does a heavier line cast further(baitcaster)? second, how do you get enough weight on a top water bait to cast it far without puting split shots on it ( which always make it sink). third, how do you keep buzz baits on top of the water?
that is right do not use weight, except put a small glass bead or plastic round bead avove the head it really cuts the water n weeds. Plus put a small jingle bell on the shank of the hook before hooking the frog.
Yeah I said do not use weight! Ok Damn thats my opinion i fish it without a weight instead of a weight on the hook i have both hooks n i prefer to not use a weighted hook. So quit acting like the only way to fish this frog is to use a weighted hook, because its not. Stupid
also what are you talking about keeping the bait from rolling over? I went through about 6 to 8 different packs of ribbit frogs in less than two months last summer and never had a problem with them Rolling Over! If your having that problem then your doing something wrong. Get a Clue
im not wrong in offtering my opinion to not use a weighted hook instead of using a weighted hook. I have both i have used both probably just like you have n i absolutely prefer to fish this bait without a wieghted hook.
I had the same problem with my frogs ripping. I went to Gander Mtn. to get some more frogs and told one of the workers about my problem, he introduced to to the Parasite. It is a lure accessory (a sort of clip) that prolongs the life of worms and other rubber lures like the ribbit frog. It is easy to put on the lure and does help the ribbit frog last longer. When I used the Parasite the frog did last longer. I would recommend the Parasite to any anglers who use the ribbit frog.
ive figured out these lures work very good in ponds where there is a rapid decent and a little bit of weed or lili pad's. i fish it by casting it righgt on the edge of the bank and retrieving it at a medium speed.
ive thrown this frog alot and caught a considerable number of bass on them. my only problem is after 2 fish your frogs usually ripped and its time for a new frog. i suggest throwing this frog over matted hydrilla and lilly pads.. but a hyrdilla mat is my favorite!
ok nevermind about the weights im fine without them , also the first day i used this in the baby bass color in my friends lake maybe the 7th cast a fish hit it and exploded out of the water right next to shore i didnt have a weigher but i guess it was about a 8 pounder and it brings the biggest bass out of a lake that u dont think has big fish for example i went to the lake in my neighborhood and i caught a good 6 pounder -recamed this to anyone that wants to catch big bass
These guys are actually throwing stanley frog hooks specifically designed for these type of frogs. You can get these hooks from Cabela's. I believe Stanley produces these hooks in only two size and weight, 3/0 & 4/0 and plain or with a 1/8 ounce head. Stanley Ribbit Frogs comes in both a floating and a super slow sinking model when rigged weightless. Gotta love the hook slot making it weedless even when the hook is not sitting flat on the body = great hook sets! Hope this helps guys.
I just tried out my first ribbit frogs this evening...they worked very good and I caught some nice bass on them. The frogs had good action and the bass hit them hard. One problem I had with the frogs was they seemed to flip upside down while reeling them, any suggestions?
I have some ponds by my house and I absoulty kill it with the spro frogs,I tried an old style rubber frog and didnt do as well.G3 if you send me a couple I will try them out with video. Come to think if it lets me post a video of some spro action and let you tell me if your frogs will compare. Great video Sir. Every time I take a video camra out fishing I cant ever get any one to flim be we are catching 30-60 fish in a 3-5 hour period. Glad to see a good top water video.
a steady retrieve works best. you can rig with a weighted hook for more distance or without weight for finesse. let the feet do the work and hang on. you can get the floating frogs and use a stop and go method over vegetation
nice fish.. i have to get me some of those frogs.. hopefully they sell them at turnurs outdoors, if not wallmart.. would u consider them for spring time spawn bass out here in cali.. ??
I just cameback from Cabela's in Reno and got me a five pack of the Ribbit firetiger/orange hot feet. they look like there' going to bring in some super spring bass, going to try them this weekend. (Sac area)
I had a three pack of ribbit frogs for years in my tackle and never used until recently and had two nice strikes!!! VERY EXPLOSIVE!!!! I did not land any fish that day but my go to bait is the ribbit frog!
the only time I have had a chance to use them the fishing was not very good and the fish were not hitting top water lures so I cant say but looking at how they move in the water they should work
oh yah..damn fish nearly scared me to death when they popped out of nowhere to get your frog..make sure you have pliers though..they inhale those frogs
i would use them mostly during spring, late spring, and fall...sometimes during the summer..use them like a buzzbait around structures suited for bass (heavy vegetation, stumps, lilly pads, grass lines, etc..)and along the shore line
all my friends use them and so do i theve caught snook big bass and ive never caught anything i dint no why is there any tips

ducksndeerhunter 2 years ago
Get a better reel.
Fiin3sse 2 years ago
1. a heavier bait(most lures come in same color and orientation at different weights) cast farther which means heavier line and medium action rod.
2. heavier lure
3. keep your rod tip up find a reeling speed that keeps you at the top.

i love these frogs in the spring and up shallow near weeds i caught a fish pushing 6 lbs early last spring on the pumpkin frog

the only time I have had a chance to use them the fishing was not very good and the fish were not hitting top water lures so I cant say but looking at how they move in the water they should work

when is a good time to use those ive order some but not doing so good
beanieb0y 4 years ago
we have good luck late in the evenings throwing them around lay downs, pads, and grass lines
g3sportsman 4 years ago
i would use them mostly during spring, late spring, and fall...sometimes during the summer..use them like a buzzbait around structures suited for bass (heavy vegetation, stumps, lilly pads, grass lines, etc..)and along the shore line
