I have thought that no one could siing this like Mario Lanza till I heard Noah Stewart ,its not on you tube but he has the edge on Lanza and I would say better than him ,I have been a fan of Mario Lanza for many years and will be for as long as I live but ,I have to say that on that one song Noah Stewart in the master .
This is my morning prayer which I listen to before I go to work and do my devotions on mornings. I love this song so much especially sung by this great man Mario Lanza.
this song was in the film the student prince which was played by edmund purdham he mimed to the voice of mario lanza because of his size mario lanza couldnt appear in this film
@davyboy232 Lanza's daughter claims that Lanza's weight problem was not the reason he did not appear in The Student Prince. She claims that the director told her father not sing the song" BELOVED" with such emotion. There was a dissagreement, and Lanza walked off the set. You can see the interview on You Tube
I wander through youtube listening to different tenors and always come back to Mario, particularly this song. His is the voice I judge all others by and I don't think I've ever found anyone to come up to him.this song leaves me in tears every time I hear it. Thank God for giving us Mario, even though for so short a time.
.I have listened to this beautiful recording here in Australia whilst it was being played at My Mothers funeral in the U,K I couldn`t be there ,but I have been able to share this time with My Family.Thank you it means so much .to me.
One of the greatest tenors ever. Perhaps it was the over exposure Mario Lanza had in movies etc......that the public took him for granted. I personaly feel he is completely underated by many. He could stand and sing on any stage with the best in any era.
My mom used to get me to watch Mario Lanza movies with her . Today I never hear his name that I don't think of my mother and her appreciation for God & great music that reached into your Soul. Such music made you feel that man is created in the spiritual image of God with better things to come when we leave this crucible called earth and leave the serpent behind . . .
Mario Lanza had one of the greatest voices ever. I have been a fan of his since the 50s and still play his records/CD's almost every day. Thanks for posting, I hope everyone will appreciate this magnificiant voice.
I often come here to listen to this mans amazing voice and read peoples comments.but now the words mean so much more as my young nephew Reece 19 years old has been in a coma 5 weeks i pray for him everyday im so sad Thank you
You can't beat Mario. If you like this, you MUST listen to the VM/AOH combined chorus in a rehearsal room in Anaheim singing this same song, without any rehearsal.
can you believe 4 people voted to dislike this? I wonder what their problem is or why they even listened to this great artist and wonderful song to begin with?

Majestic, commanding and spine-tingling. No wonder he is a legend who has inspired so many more classically-trained tenors. As Caruso's son has said, 'A Voice like this comes along maybe once in a hundred years'. We are therefore so fortunate....

I have just listened to Jussi Bjorling singing this song and really admire the quality of an absolutely beautiful rendition, but NOTHING on this earth or indeed in heaven will compare to Mario Lanzas version. I also grew up listening and watching movies from Mario Lanza, My grandfather was a hugh fan and he could sing like him,,almost everyday he would watch a Mario Lanza movie..I listened to this song for the first time since his passing in 2008 and i cried like a baby, Mario had the greatest voice, no one since him can compare!..I miss my Pops so much and I thank him for bring opera, the old movies and musicals into my life, they are the best!!xxxxooo
I feel strong AND I will fight for my children and my destiny on hearing this song. I am blessed with my Lord God he will never let me down. Self belief is in me. I am a stronger person ty xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
lynnstez ,i did the same .i know my mum loved this one ,a year after her death i opened a gramaphone player, she left to me,the first record in the compartment for the records was this one .
@52kamelia How I agree that if we walk with God, He walks with us. I do not know how I would be able to travel through this world day by day if I did not know that I belong to Him.
This was my dads funeral song . He was a big fan of Marios. When i hear him sing it bring my father back to me and i cry...... this is for my dad R,I.Pxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
@catswiskers2 hi this as been our family funeral song since my granddad passed in 1980.all the males that have passed have requested this to be played.last played in june 2008 for my dad..oh god i do miss him.i loved him so much.and i often play this .it reminds me so much of him and is final farewell. r i p dad..miss and love you
@xxx1957xxx I'm so sorry for the loss of your father mine passed away in 2005.He loved this song and i think it inspired him to live his life the best way he could. Even though we get sad we are lucky that we can look back and know we had wonderful fathers x
This brings to my heart many memories; Mario Lanza was my star and many a day I tried to sing like him. That magnificent voice which in God can anoint one with. I pray that he was saved and isresting in the loving arms of my Saviour. Rest In Peace my friend.
@ROTTWIELLER -- I believe that Lanza sings with more intensity and soul. I prefer Lanza in some songs and Pavarotti is others. Suggest you listen to Pavarotti's "Panis Angelicus" from 1973 in Montreal.
Freddy was a great singer and bloody hell he could eat and drink his skin would take a green tinge after a session then his temper would flare up and he was a real fucker well we all know that dont we But when fred sang he became Mario lanza and the world listened .
How can someone listen to this, and think, "There is nothing out there". Maybe religion has it figured out, maybe they don't, but when you listen to this, it's obvious something is out there.
we played this song at the entrance to my great aunts funeral. it was so moving that at the end of the funeral the undertakers came to us and told us that it was the most moving funeral they had been too. we also had 2 horses pulling a hearse for her. dressed in full black plummage they looked amazing. i dont wish to upset anyone but it made my day to see my great aunt whom i loved deeply sent off so well, love and care about those close because they wont be around forever x
@cookie1niki2 i can relate totally,.... my mother died on the 7th of july, and this was played at her funeral, i carried her in to it, it was one of her favorites..........
My mother was very fond of this song and was the first one of Mario that I heard when I was stil a smal child. My mom pastaway in 1964 and I still mis her today.
I remember this, I was only a child when I went to see The Student Prince with mum and dad, even then as a child I cried when Edmund Purdon stood by the coffin of his father , the king, and sang this(lanza). Its beautiful, what music they made back then, not like the repetative crap turned out today.
@billboy508 Overindulgence did not kill Mario. He was murdered. His own family knows it. Mario as talented as he was, wasn't pleasant, had a bad temper and slapped the wrong people in the face. Sorry, but it's true. The doctors put what they were told to put in the report( or they would have been next).
Witch Ann Cappelletti, the sorceror of So. Philadelphia, 1/2 sister of Barbara Bush, witch daughters of Aleister Crowley, killed Mario's wife with a voodoo doll. No doubt she killed Mario because she wanted him and he didn't want her. I will post more when I learn it.

What a beautiful voice. It's sad that he died young, I think in his mid-thirty. He was not actor in Student Prince movie because he was very heavy at that time. So, Edmund Purdom, an English actor, played the part, but they used Mario Lanza's voice. R.I.P. Mario Lanza & Edmund Purdom. Edmund Purdom died this year.
This was played at my father's funeral a great song from a great man for a great man..rest in peace dad ..may the angels care for you now..thank you for posting this song..all my respect..Shane..

@52kamelia How I agree that if we walk with God, He walks with us. I do not know how I would be able to travel through this world day by day if I did not know that I belong to Him.

@ROTTWIELLER -- I believe that Lanza sings with more intensity and soul. I prefer Lanza in some songs and Pavarotti is others. Suggest you listen to Pavarotti's "Panis Angelicus" from 1973 in Montreal.

How can someone listen to this, and think, "There is nothing out there". Maybe religion has it figured out, maybe they don't, but when you listen to this, it's obvious something is out there.

@mareckbamf Not religion...Jesus Christ who died and is alive. The Alpha and the Omega.

we played this song at the entrance to my great aunts funeral. it was so moving that at the end of the funeral the undertakers came to us and told us that it was the most moving funeral they had been too. we also had 2 horses pulling a hearse for her. dressed in full black plummage they looked amazing. i dont wish to upset anyone but it made my day to see my great aunt whom i loved deeply sent off so well, love and care about those close because they wont be around forever x

I remember this, I was only a child when I went to see The Student Prince with mum and dad, even then as a child I cried when Edmund Purdon stood by the coffin of his father , the king, and sang this(lanza). Its beautiful, what music they made back then, not like the repetative crap turned out today.

Wonderful memories of beautiful sings by a great artist .Such a pity over indulgence took him away far too soon.Sadly missed.
billboy508 1 year ago
