  • Really best guitar teacher on YouTube.

  • Wow, you've made that so much easier.

How do you mute effectively without having to rely on the bar of your index finger to mute all the strings? The problem is that the last E chord is an open chord, so i keep hitting the open strings by accident when i want to mute it.

Do i use my pinky to try and cover those strings lightly, avoid touching those strings or praticing my palm muting (which i find is pretty hard)?

  • Very helpful, thank you!

  • Best guitar teacher on YouTube, thank you so much!!!

  • @fgtm-Best lessons I've seen of this song on youtube, and certiantly the most accurate. Definitely helpful for the beginner to intermediate player. Good job and thnx for the instructions! +5 stars.

  • dude omg im from arizona.

  • a proper teacher, those watching n wants short cut, this is not the place for u.

  • rename this 'rhythm im yours lesson' you barely teach the chords and spend ages talking

  • Oh my god, i think i wasn't made for strumming a guitar. No matter how many videos of strumming I watch, I can't do any.

  • @JoseRaul49 watching loads of videos dont necessarily help, u need to get the basics and then figure it out urself, otherwise u'll take forever trying to do it their way, u'll get it eventually

  • @JoseRaul49 play guitar hero, will give you the muscle strength and timing

  • this helped alot lol thanks dude :D i'm trying to play this for my gf for her bday and so far yours videos helped me a great deal :DD thank you again

  • wow ur one lesson was great but this was drawn out horribly you killed me

    and clear your throat

  • wow ur one lesson was great but this was drawn out horribly you killed me

  • thanks for this lesson.l btw there is one chord missing of the entire lyrics what is it?

  • For the love of God, you take 5 minutes to explain something that should take 5 seconds. Scatter brained and just all over the place.

  • Best rhythm tutorial for this song out there!

  • You're playing a Taylor Swift guitar.........

    Great lesson though!

  • great lesson. thank you much!

  • i still can't play as fast :(

  • lol he forgot the capo@

  • 2:47 for everyone who wants to skip the bullsht. no offense lol

  • I understand this strumming technique with bar chords, but how is it different if you're using a capo?

  • why you lot all complaining about him getting to the point? he does that in the end, and it's helping you.. so shut up!

  • Fuck... stay on your title and tags! ... so what now/?! your sexlife?! commmmeee ooon! Strum Lesson "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz by the way thats your title man...

  • boring hell!

  • Thx man, you helped me a lot

  • WAIT , WHAT CHORD IS THE FIRST ON U START PLAYING AT 7:20? IM A BEGINNER AT GUITAR SO EXCUSE ME IF I SOUND DUMB......

  • @peanut902 chord B.

  • Dude, your lessons helped me a lot. Thanks

  • Awesome! I've been wanting to learn to play this song for a long time but I couldn't figure out the strumming pattern, you've been a big help. Thanks man!

  • this was one of the first instructional video's i ever watched. looking back your talking not your style of teaching, just your talking make's things more complicated. Good job tho i learned from it

  • Good teacher but you talk way to much, all i want is to learn the song...

  • great vid,

But i don't get how you ou that scratch sound on the E chord. How do you do it?

  • @MYCrafton same here

  • annoying....

  • I don't understand how you strum the E chord because it has open strings which just carry on when you're doing the float above bit.

  • Thank you for the tutorial, it's just what beginners like me need.

  • awesome tutorial. I dont know where the negative comments are coming from. Thanks for the breaking things down. BTW i hate barre chords like most beginners but float squeeze is great way to get the hand strength down too. Thanks and keep up the great job!

  • Best, best, best, lesson for this song. I can actually play this song now. I still suck of coarse, but I can FINALLY do the Reggae beat. Thank you.

  • shut your damn mouth and play the fucking song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mon empire pour le sens du rythme !

  • I don't have a problem doing barre chords ,but after a while my hand starts to cramp up. I mean it hurts really bad, so bad that i have to stop playing. It only happens when i play songs that are mostly barre chords.. jack johnson for example. Anyone have anytips?

  • way too slowwww

  • After 40 years of guitar playing, I find out I've been holding my pick wrong all this time! It will take some practice to relearn, but I can see how your technique will improve my picking immensely. Thanks!

  • hey man, i wanted to thank you for all your awesome videos, im playing this song at my bro's wedding next year and this really really helped!.....thanks a million..

  • i cant do the slap properly, how do u do it lmao ?. it really annoys me

  • fuck u di ka naman pala kakanta

  • very helpful. Liked the tip on different ways to hold the pick.

  • Aw you started singing and stopped, you should've kept going XD

Your how-to's are really helpful. I like that you include little side notes, like how to hold the pick to achieve different sounds. I'm practicing and learning lots.

    Thanks!

  • Ugggghhh. I hate the pick! Everytime I try to strum, it either sounds too loud and "metallic" or BOTH. Then when I lighten up like you said, it gets caught in the strings, and most times goes flying across the room, or inside the guitar. HELP......please???

  • @CelloMusic4ever strum lightly but make sure your strumming through all the strings you should with enough strength so that your not raking (what your doing). also maybe start out with a little bit of a lighter and bigger pick until you get the touch. As far as the metallic sound, if your playing an acoustic, try different strings(ex phosphore bronze) that will give you a deeper less twangy tone. Sorry to be long, but i hope this helps.

  • @johndawson420 No, not long at all. Thank you SO much =)

  • Could you do the advanced strumming pattern so just how the song sounds?

  • r u playing B A G F in progression ?????? oor is that last note of the progression just a E

  • Wow, wow, woweee, best strum lesson ever. I'm subscribing just because of this lesson.

  • VERY helpful tutorials...thankyou so much :)

  • Which model of Taylor Guitar you are using

  • nice nice nice

  • Comment removed

  • Oooo a taylor

  • That is quite helpful. One thing - you explained and played the pattern correctly (chords played in even beats and muted in odd beats), however during end of the video, when you transit to F# Maj, you start playing the pattern in reverse (time - 8:30). Thanks for the post!

  • perhaps a throat lossange next time?

  • 9minutes for 4 simple chords-------------> LOOOOOOOOL

  • cheers 4 the lessin man!!! :D LEGEND!!!!

  • i dont know how to get that sound, it doesn't work. when i strum it just make the chord sound, I hope im making sense here. i mean the sound you do thats like a mute. but isnt, how do you do it.

  • there is no correct way to hold a pick, the way to hold it is the way that's right for you. look at james hetfield then tell me he's wrong, he uses a whole different finger bt way

  • @jasonT29 Thanks for commenting that, whenever I try it the way demonstrated, my playing always sounds absolutely crap ! I play with the more "straight on" approach shown at the start ... works much better ! The way to hold your pick rests entirely on the guitar player themselves :)

  • Thank you for posting this. Everyone is ranting about how you take forever to get to the point, but I enjoyed that. I'm an absolute beginner (I have only been playing for around three weeks now) so this was a big help. Great How-to.

  • GOOD!

  • wats da pattern?

  • Hey great playing guy....and very helpful to beginners....maybe a touch to fast...just a little...but great playing dude...thumbs up.

  • i had to run through it to the end. at 7:20 he starts to do it! So everyone skip their. Oh and what were you starting to sing dude?Lol!! Well Good luck your playing!-EMota

  • sorry man, but could you cut to the chase? Other than that, very helpful :D

  • Hey Micah, I was wondering if you could help me out with these chords in this video. Jason does it many different ways but I want to learn these chords. I can't quite figure them out correctly. Thanks!

  • talk too much.. =\

  • Somebody get Micah a glass o' water! Kool Aid! Yoo Hoo! Brewski! REEE-COLA!

  • You are such a good teacher!!This is the best teaching and explaining I've ever watched. Perhaps it's because I'm a real beginer...

    Truely appreciated!

How I wish I can have a guitar teacher like youO(∩_∩)O~

  • Awesome

  • You dont go through the chords but you go through how to hold a pick...

  • @Hulious777 Instead of being rude to the guy man, you should probably check out his other 3 videos in which he goes over MANY CHORDS in MANY DIFFERENT WAYS to play the song. He even tells you what the chords are, its pretty nice that he TAKES THE TIME to do this. When you TAKE NO TIME TO LOOK and insult him.

  • LESS talking more DOING!!!

  • Very useful move. Great play.

    Thank you very much.

    form Japan.

  • Very useful move. Great play.

    Thank you very much.

  • thank you sooooo much! that's really really very helpful for improving my srum skill, learn more from your ncie teaching. :D

  • miss the star rating...5*

  • hey for the E chord how do you stop make it so no sound from the strings comes off

  • i liked the video, you're a really good teacher

  • dude seriously instead of making us wathc the entire video why dont you put the strum pattern at the begining and explain the other uselss stuff after, no offence.

  • I fell asleep before we even got to hear one strum. Great theory....just need to get to the point.

  • well said! I learnt acoustic guitar for a year now, and I am pretty much stucked at the barre chords. I think this is a good practice, thank you!

  • this guy talks a lot- but at least he's cute...

  • so it is raised up and down, pressed up and down, raised up and down and pressed up and down?

Thank you i think you are the first person to acutally teach the strumming. Extremely appreciated.

  • Hi Micah, when I get to the E, I find it difficult to mute when you release the strings, I find it easier when they're barred chords. Is there a trick to mute the E chord? By the way, you're a great teacher, you should come to Montreal!!

  • Thanks for this---helped so much!!!!

  • how do you absorb all strings when u play E like that?? dont get it... (sorry about the english)

  • Micah, I'm a beginner player and have been looking for this exact post. So many people want to show you the chords then strum away, they don't go into the strum detail, the strumming pattern of a song is so crucial, thanks so much, this is awesome!

  • Oh man, thanks! This is the best "I'm Yours" strumming tutorial on YouTube!

  • hey i was wondering how you do the muted sturm for the E chord? plz reply

  • pretty cool lesson ;) thanks for that..

i woul like to see more of this ^^

    it's very helpful....

  • nice guy and helpful tips but he takes FOREVER to get to the point.... jesus

  • ya man I was thinking the same thing. A two minute video would have been about right.

  • The Float / Squeeze, good method man... I'll use that, cheers... Have an awesome day brother. Darcy

  • 8:42 :P

  • you could have done this video in less time.. but still helpfull though good job

  • muted rake? palm mute. lol

  • wow that helped a lot.... but i didnt learn the bar chords... but imma watch ur othr video and try it that way, but i get the concept.... thanx!!!!!!!!!11

  • really help a lot , thx

  • i'm so sorry! my mouse accidentally slipped and it gave you a two star. really really am sorry. personally i think you teach wonderful

  • thk u tht really helps alot =]

  • thanks so much! very helpful! The only problem i am having is muting the E since it is not a bar chord....

  • You could also use the E chord as a bar chord, then it would be like this x79997. Hope this helps you a bit :)

  • spot on tutorial

  • One thing I'd like to mention is that on the first beat, you should just play the root note by itself, then the muted rake on the following up beat. It gives it a cleaner sound.

Thanks for these "I'm Yours" tutorials, they were very helpful.

  • @steveski74 Yes you are correct. Actually there are a lot of nuances that I don't cover. We don't want a 45min How to. That's the difficult thing about a mass appeal video, enough for some, not enough for others. Can't cover every detail right. So thank you for the comment post. I always hope for comments like this. Good luck with your guitar playing! -Micah Beverly

  • yo! thank you

  • Thanks
