How do you mute effectively without having to rely on the bar of your index finger to mute all the strings? The problem is that the last E chord is an open chord, so i keep hitting the open strings by accident when i want to mute it.
Do i use my pinky to try and cover those strings lightly, avoid touching those strings or praticing my palm muting (which i find is pretty hard)?
weeeee.. i finally got the strumming/squeezing! but to all you adhd ppl who say "blah blah blah" - really take ur time to go through the lesson if you want to learn properly.

I don't have a problem doing barre chords ,but after a while my hand starts to cramp up. I mean it hurts really bad, so bad that i have to stop playing. It only happens when i play songs that are mostly barre chords.. jack johnson for example. Anyone have anytips?

Ugggghhh. I hate the pick! Everytime I try to strum, it either sounds too loud and "metallic" or BOTH. Then when I lighten up like you said, it gets caught in the strings, and most times goes flying across the room, or inside the guitar. HELP......please???
@CelloMusic4ever strum lightly but make sure your strumming through all the strings you should with enough strength so that your not raking (what your doing). also maybe start out with a little bit of a lighter and bigger pick until you get the touch. As far as the metallic sound, if your playing an acoustic, try different strings(ex phosphore bronze) that will give you a deeper less twangy tone. Sorry to be long, but i hope this helps.
That is quite helpful. One thing - you explained and played the pattern correctly (chords played in even beats and muted in odd beats), however during end of the video, when you transit to F# Maj, you start playing the pattern in reverse (time - 8:30). Thanks for the post!
i dont know how to get that sound, it doesn't work. when i strum it just make the chord sound, I hope im making sense here. i mean the sound you do thats like a mute. but isnt, how do you do it.
there is no correct way to hold a pick, the way to hold it is the way that's right for you. look at james hetfield then tell me he's wrong, he uses a whole different finger bt way
@jasonT29 Thanks for commenting that, whenever I try it the way demonstrated, my playing always sounds absolutely crap ! I play with the more "straight on" approach shown at the start ... works much better ! The way to hold your pick rests entirely on the guitar player themselves :)
Thank you for posting this. Everyone is ranting about how you take forever to get to the point, but I enjoyed that. I'm an absolute beginner (I have only been playing for around three weeks now) so this was a big help. Great How-to.

Hey Micah, I was wondering if you could help me out with these chords in this video. Jason does it many different ways but I want to learn these chords. I can't quite figure them out correctly. Thanks!
@Hulious777 Instead of being rude to the guy man, you should probably check out his other 3 videos in which he goes over MANY CHORDS in MANY DIFFERENT WAYS to play the song. Hi Micah, when I get to the E, I find it difficult to mute when you release the strings, I find it easier when they're barred chords. Is there a trick to mute the E chord? By the way, you're a great teacher, you should come to Montreal!!
Micah, I'm a beginner player and have been looking for this exact post. So many people want to show you the chords then strum away, they don't go into the strum detail, the strumming pattern of a song is so crucial, thanks so much, this is awesome!

@CelloMusic4ever strum lightly but make sure your strumming through all the strings you should with enough strength so that your not raking (what your doing). also maybe start out with a little bit of a lighter and bigger pick until you get the touch.
