Hello, fellow abalone divers. We have a common enemy. The sunflower starfish. Every time, I dive in anywhere in california, I see many sunflower starfish, yes, light purple color the ones with 20 arms. They are eating abalone at an scary rate. I usually cut them up into tiny pieces. Please help, by cutting up these prediators of the abalone. Let's protect the abalone populations , so that there will be more abs for us in the future.

it was the biologists from uc davis under contract from dept of fish and game, they
keep track of how many and what size abalones are taken out each weekend.

they some good size paua there. in new zealand they only need to be 125mm, so dont see them the size of yours.

i usually give them to family and friends.
once the abalone's out of the water for awhile
they won't survive if you put them back

is he measuring them to see what they are, or is that guage set to 7" and measuring to see if its legal?

minimum legal size is 7" or about178mm. he's a biologist from uc davis, doing survey to make sure the abalones are not over-harvested and legal.
