Some people might want to think about getting a bag of earring hooks from their local craft store if they know a certain type won't bother them. This way you can buy all the earrings you want with only a little to work to do at home.
Im going to try this! :) i have super sensitive ears and im always seeing the cutest cheap earrings but they irritate my ears :( so hopefully this works :)
WOW! I will try this! I had only heard of coating the "jewelry" part so that it won't rust, but never heard (or thought) of doing the hook! thx! I will try this bcuz I do suffer from that sensitivity . We'll see how it goes =)
Would clear nail polish also help your ears getting irritation like bumps and keloids. Lately whenever i wear earrings, i'll take them off and my ears will feel irritated/sore.
I unfortunately can't even use nail polish because my ears are hyper-sensitive to anything that isn't stainless steel or above 24 karat gold; and my skin is super acidic or something so by the end of the day my ears will have taken all the nail polish off the hook! What I do though is break the hooks off of my el-cheapo earrings and slip them through my little gold sleeper hoops or gold studs and voila! No irritation and I don't have to pay tonnes of money for cute earrings :)
it's better to buy new hooks at a bead shop and replace the cheap hooks. a shop employee could easily show you how. what are the health effects of putting the chems in the polish in your ear like that?
@NedegaDolma: I don't think it would cause much harm to you if the polish is dry. Yes it has chemicals in it,but when it's dry it really shouldn't do anything to you.
Also people don't all want to buy new hooks and learn how to replace them.
Thanks! I'm going to try this! I have super sensitive ears as well..that's part of the reason why i stopped buying earrings! But I will give this a try and hopefully it will help! thanks once again.
Thanks Judy, My daughter is almost 16. Poor thing loves earings, but dosen't wear 'em for the irritation part. I can't wait to share this with her. Thanks a bunch!
wow this was a great tip! me and my bf got promise rings a few years back and he cant ever wear his ring because he is allergic to white gold.. im totally gonna try coating the inside of his ring with some clear polish now! worst case, acetone will take the polish right off! thanks so muchhh :DD
I used to work for Piercing Pagoda (they are not paying me to say this though!) and we used to sell a clear plastic sheath that you could put the post through. That is an alternative to putting clear nail polish in there. If they act like they don't sell it, tell them it should be in the tiny blue and clear baggies!
wow this is awesome i hated wearin my earings just once a week cuz of this. I have heard of puttin clear nail polish on to the earring to prevent it from changing color but i have never thought to put on the hook. Thank you so much for the idea!!!!
Judy, now I just got shocked.. in a good way :D I do excatly the same thing! but still you have to be careful so your earings won't get any dust or humidity or it will get rusty..
@hellhala its a scam!!! ..i was curious & google gratis makeup samples & it led me else where = SCAM! & they posted the same cmmnt on another video. becareful peeps!
i learned this trick a while back, n i use it on my rings that aren't real so they don't turn my fingers green hehe n it's actually really funny cuz my brother was the one that told me about it, i was like :O LOLs
i've been doing this to my rings that i get from Forever21 and it works, but sometimes i have to re-apply another coat cuz it does come off after a while :]
Polishes with phthalates should be avoided. It's considered to be a potential carcinogen and possible cause of birth defects, allergic rashes and eczema, and they are already banned in Europe.
Also avoid ones with formaldehyde or have a formaldehyde-releasing agent like imidazolidinyl urea or quaternium 15. The most common cause of eyelid dermatitis is the formaldehyde in nail polish. I got this info from this month's Marie Claire magazine.
agh i used to hate claire's supposedly "sensitive solutions" earrings 'cause they'd still make my ears bleed/irritated... but cleaning my ear hole/earrings while they're on my ears with a qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol everyday really helps!
this is true! you can paint your whole earing if it's like the cheap ones from forever 21 so it doesn't rust and the gold comes all ugly looking :) haha.
nail polish has a lot of dangerous chemicals in it though so i'm afraid if it where to seep into your skin or leave chemicals in can be another scary situation!
another way to keep your ears from getting annoyed or i guess irritated is to put some neosporing the the hook of your earring that goes directly in your ear
Thanks for the tip! My sister has super sensitive ears so she never wears "cheap" earrings either! I'm definitely going to pass this tip along to her.
i have to dip my earring hooks in the cheap equate antibacterial cream, its works for meee=).... especially new ones-im always scared someone tried them on before i bought them XP
Another tip is to sanitize the hook of the earring with alcohol and then put neosporin on the earring hook. It helps to prevent any irritation because it has a vaseline consistency.
My friend does this trick...she cant wear cheap necklaces either or she'll have to wear a turtle neck so it doesn't touch her neck or chest. Great tip...it does work.
my body is immune to everything its hilarious. i can stab myself with a rusty nail and ill still be fine. but this definitly is helpful, my sister has REALLY sensitive ears
...Heyy I just had a conversation with a few girls about this SAME issue on your previous video! I posted this comment already, but it isn't showing up! :/
I have NEVER been able to wear anything that is not silver or gold and I've been using that trick for years. My mom taught it to me. It works perfectly!
Hey girl, ( could just be me) but I wish I could say that your tip was helpful but I have to disagree ONLY because Ive tried that and it just made thing worst to the point that the dr was going to cut off part of my ear :( Once again it could just be me
lol i do this to most of my earrings.. and it works lol my told me about this a very long time a go..... i cant wear any type metal even if its the sensitive kind ...soo i know this works
nope, I already tried that and nope, I can't even try plastic or fake earrings for a couple or seconds, cause even like that I get itchy and all gross :( :( :( :(
just gold earrings, and silver but the silver ones not for a very long time :( :(, so jealous of all the girls wearing beautiful dangling earrings, matching their outfits and why not :( :( you are so lucky :).
For any of you ladies who have sensitive ears, which is also known as a "Nickle Allergy", you can go to Michaels or any other craft store and buy earring replacement hooks that are "Nickle Free" and change ANY PAIR OF EARRINGS YOU OWN by replacing them with these "Nickle Free" hooks. They usually come in a pack of 8 for less than $2! All you need is a small pair of pliers to take them off and put the new ones on. it takes less than 1 minute and your ears will love u..lol
I;ve been doing this for years! And it's the best thing ever. The only thing is that you have to look if its peeling every now and then. But it heps us delicate-ears-people a lot lol
Thank-you for the awesome tip Judy! I was just mourning my Forever 21 earrings because they gave me ear an infection and I thought I could never wear Forever 21 earrings again!

I have really sensitive ears and have relatives who will only by real silver and gold earrings for this reason!! Who knew they could save hundreds by just applying a few coats of nail polish! I bet the more organic nail polish you use, the better too!
Thanks Judy! xoxo

I like buying cute cheap earrings too! I mean, theres really no difference between an $8 one to a $1 one. Some expensive earrings are ugly... THANKS FOR THE TIP JUDY! most def. will try this! =D
