That is so pretty. It looks really difficult to do, but you did a great job of explaining/demonstrating. I'm going to try this on one of my daughters.
awesome awesome video! I haven't ever started from the bottom, and my hair ends up looking like it slid from one side to another because I start from the top of the left half. I wish my hair were as thick as yours. My braids are about half the thickness of yours T_T
Thank you for this! Ive been trying to learning to do this braid on my -much shorter- hair, and I believe this technique should work better than what I had been doing. I understand your frustrations but I so love crown braids :D
I am typing the comment wearing my first ever crown braid. First try, without mirror, live help from ur video...:)...Its not perfect since I have lots of stubs and I didnt brush while braiding, but I am very happy that Idid it. It had looked so complicated, I never imagined I will be able to do it myself! Thank you torrinpaige
men if you had a daughter i bet she would love all the styles you could do on her hair...well at least i would. your really good and i love your beautiful hair.
I watched this vid a few months ago and tonight while sitting in the dark, watching tv I got a wild hair and tried to do this. It's not perfect, first try and no mirror, but I think I could actually do this and have it look good! Thanks so much, Torrin. Turns out when it comes to hair styles I'm a visual learner and you're the perfect teacher! (You also taught me to dutch & rope braid. :-) )
Very impressive, esp doing it to yourself without any help! Thanks for the tutorial, I will be trying this on my daughter for family pictures next month :)
I learned to do this from watching it, i just had enough hair lol, I have mid back past my bra brand for my longest layer, with shorter layers ontop. But i find the first part the easiest to braid, it switching going down wards i find evil i naturally want to pull the hair upwards in a french braid then under in a dutch. And i wear this style alot in summer i find keeps me cool and i can sleep in for like two nights before i have to redo it. Otherwise my hair just wears down and get to hot.
wow I watch your vidoes all the time and this is the first time I have watched this one. Little did I know I managed the first part on accident this morning while trying to do a headband type braid. Dont ask me how I managed but I did. My mind just kind did self play this morning with my baby at the vet.
Okay, I'm back! I've tried this and done it about 90% satisfactorily. The 10% that keeps messing up is the alignment--I keep getting a lopsided "crown," with the braid creeping closer to the edge of my hair on the second side. Any tips on rectifying this situation?
And, honestly, I find this to be a fairly easy 'do. Awkward, but not bad. Maybe it's cause I have about two feet less hair, but you know. (:
Holy Cow! Your arms must be killing you by the end of this absolutely BEAUTIFUL braided style! The only difference I can see between the Eliz. hair taping and this style is the "frenched" look at the front. I'm wondering if you could achieve the same look by making tiny ponytails with small elastics at the front of your hair, then using an English braid wrapped around your head to hide the elastics? I think I'll give it a try and let you know.
looks great. I happen to be the one gentlemen watching. I have been trying to learn, for a long time, new creative ways to braid my daughter's hair - she is four and thinks that she is a princess. Your tutorial did the trick. She loved this new crown braid.
I just pictured my own father searching youtube for tutorials on how to braid my hair and I know he'd do anything for me when I was four but he, like you probably, is pretty manly so it's still amusing :P
@movedwithcompassion I had a dad like you, and I have some very precious memories of him braiding my hair. He was really proud of the fishtail, and I just learned how to do it myself from these tutorials the other day. It was a lot of fun, when I'd been messing around with the Cable Braid, seeing how short my hair goes, and my dad knew about how many braids I had by the length my hair was! It was super cool.
I love this one! I have about waist-length hair, but it's not quite long and thick enough for the elizabethan hairtaping. I'm now practising the dutch braid every night before sleep, so hopefully I can master the crown-braid before long :-)
Thank you so much for your tutorials - they have been a really big help for me! Please keep 'em coming!
you have lovely hair. but when i had hair half as long as yours, it annoyed me really really easily. it took a long time dry, especially since i was on swim team. which, by the way, ruined my hair even more. haha. your hair is so pretty and shimmery. (:
woww that was amazing i cant believe u said its not bad...its great i think..its greally hard to do that..i have done hair do's and have only been myself doing it to a point where u cant see the back..so i kno the feeling lol but good job
Well done just doesn't cut it lol. I agree that your Hair Taping tutorial is much easier & achieves a similar finish so I think I will stick to that 1 :). But great job dude - considering most people wouldn't be doing the style on their own head you've done an amazing job!
P.S. - are you a hairdresser? if not, you should be :)
I don't have the guts to tape my hair for a formal occasion, so I'm going to need this style in the future. Nice to know that everyone has trouble doing this one, and that it's not just me.
I really appreciate you suffering though making this tutorial! You do look wonderful. I think that there's something about doing your own crown braid that makes you think it looks bad - you and MarriedaMonkey both look great, and I tend to think I look worse than everyone else does. I'm going to have to try the lace braiding next time I do the crown. Unfortunately my hair doesn't lie as flat as your do, so I need to be somewhat more energetic in how I contort myself.
Again simply stunning! You make all these styles with such ease, you don't even break a sweat. Even I'll have days when I'll need to spend over 15 minutes or more perfecting a simply chignon, so to see you whizz thro these styles with such speed is just amazing!
I tried this. Your instructions helped me get a decent, but still unwearable in public, first try at it. Somehow all my layer remnants make the braid part taper really severely (in a way other braids don't) and fuzz out.
I'm going to stick to the hair taping (thanks for that vid, too!), as it is a lot easier and looks just as impressive when done with two Dutch braids.
Thanks though, for your hard work! Without it, I wouldn't even have tried.
Congratulations on mastering this one! You did it with no swearing, and no drooping bits, which is the problem I always have with crown braids. I think it must be much easier to do on another person, since you can walk all the way around their head!
Way to go Torrin! It looks beautiful, but needless to say I won't be trying this any time soon, my hair is way too curly and would tangle in a second.
good job, hon. i'm proud of you for persevering for your fans. a spectacular result.
fyi ... i am sticking with the coconut oil treatment and i can't tell you how much better my hair is after only a few months of discovering & subscribing to your site.
oh, and silk drops? i will be taking out stock in THAT company! haha!
thanks again, torrin. it was hard and you did it! and the results were lovely.
I get what you're saying about this braid, but maybe you're too much of a perfectionist, because it looks absolutely stunning! You did such a great job!
I have trouble holding my hands obove my head for any length of time so i think I'll skip this one. That just means I admire anyone who can pull it off all the more.
The camera angle you picked was very helpful.
Also, I really like the dress you're wearing in this video.
Torrin, that was A LOT of work, but I think the result was well worth it...you look lovely! All in all, my favorite of your hairstyles to date remains the very easy to do "Vintage-y Up-Do (naughty librarian). I think it's a classic! You deserve a gold star for all your efforts!
I tried this but I can't do it. My hair touches the floor and my arms aren't long enough to separate the outside hair to add to the braid. I end up wound up in a mess of hair! I need another set of hands. Beautiful though and awesome vid. Keep um coming!
Wow! Yeah, I think I have a little too much to do a crown braid good and proper. I think APL to BSL is the ideal length for this one...I can't even imagine trying it out on floor length! You are brave to try. Check out my hair taping video...that one will work better for you, I think.
i tried this and it came out almost perfect i have about armpit length hair your videos are amazing and i cant wait till my hair is long enough to do all of your hair tutorials you taught me how to dutch braid and i love it thank you for all your knowledge and hair because with out that you couldnt do all of these amazing things you are my hair idol =)
This is something someone else should do, for sure, I must agree. And something only for special occasions, or someone with alot of hair to lose, from the sounds of it. Awesome that you stuck with it til it was done, though!
LOL. You're funny when you're frustrated. But you're right, the hair taping is nicer, especially because you get the ribbons in there. But major kudos for putting this up! :)
GRATS! Thats a beeeaaaauuuuutiful braid! You did it!! Nice tip about starting upside down....I didnt do that with my last attempt but I'll be sure to try it out next time.
PIA, but totally worth it-once again you inspire me. Thanks for working so hard on that!
OMG, that is gorgeous, Torrin! You did an EXCELLENT job. I know that you practiced super hard on it. You're right though - it looks pretty darned hard to do.
I'm sure you're right about the hairstyle sites - someone else fixed their hair, not themselves. I say this because I find it's much easier for me to fix Katie's hair, then my own. Especially the more complicated braids.
your crown braid looks so gorgeous on you! it look perfect to me, great job, Torrin as usual, and Congratulations you got it!! I'm proud of ya! but that really is so pretty!! :)
You did it, congratulations! It really does help me to see other people doing styles when I get stuck. Thank you for working so hard on this braid when you hate it soooo much. You are lucky that the Elizabethan taping looks so good on your beautiful, thick hair. Mine is nowhere near long or thick enough to give a good effect in that style so it's this or nothing. You and marriedamonkey have really helped and I do appreciate it a lot. You are a braiding guru. :)
Thank you for taping it!! I really like your channel since I have really long hair (past my knees!) and I usually keep it in a braid or a bun because they are the easiest styles. But now, thanks to you, I'm eager to try new styles!! Another thing I like about your videos is that you do your hairstyles all by yourself: I don't like letting people do hairstyles on me, it's uncomfortable. So you are very helpful!
Just the braiding...I get little stray hairs that don't want to cooperate and they get tangled and snap. Also? One of my attempts resulted in a massive tangle and a nice chunk breaking off. Don't worry, it wasn't this technique...lol.
Yay! Crown braid. I tried the Dreamweaver way and it was way hard! Your way is a whole lot easier and I got my lace braid tutorial. So thankies. and congrats.
Heh. I throw those little tidbits into everyday conversation because they drive my hubby nuts. He also hates, "Holla!", "Dude", "Fo-schnizzle", and "Like, omigod, you are totally harshing my mellow!" It is my duty to annoy him when I can. :o)
My hands were fine...my arms did start to get a little tired near the end, though, up near my shoulder. I'm a drummer so my hands and forearms have some stamina...my shoulders apparently do not. LOL. I guess I need to bang harder. :o)
Wow, you've have some strong arms. I'm strong, upper arm wise, just not wrist wise. I have Cerebral Palsy so my wrists tend to hurt before I get done French or Dutch braiding my just below the shoulder blade hair!
That is a beautiful braid, but I don't blame you for never wanting to go through that again. I will just wait until my hair is long enough for hair taping.
Looks great! I can't do the elizabethan hair taping because my hair isn't long enough, so this is definitely an alternative but I have almost zero patience when it comes to things like this lol. It looks very pretty though!
Question: where did you find those hair pins that you used to secure the crown braid at the end? I have about BSL hair and my hair is pretty thick so bobby pins don't hold it very well.
Those are Good Days hair pins from Sally Beauty Supply. They come in clear and tortoise shell and they may have them elsewhere, but that's where I found mine. They work really well.
I have those hair pins. You can get brown ones at Walgreens and they have several colors at Sally's Beauty Supply where the duck bill clips and curlers are.
It looks so beautiful (:

Just the braiding...I get little stray hairs that don't want to cooperate and they get tangled and snap. Also? One of my attempts resulted in a massive tangle and a nice chunk breaking off. Don't worry, it wasn't this technique...lol.

YAY! You must have arms o' steele - mine would be aching! I've never heard of dreamweaverbraiding, but I just checked it out! Very cool!

Didn't your hand start hurting half way through? My hands would be killing me!

Congrats! It looks beautiful.

that looks really complicated

Thank you! I'm gonna go hunting for them!
barnangel56 2 years ago
No problem. They are definately worth searching for. I have really thick coarse hair and couldn't live without them.

I have those hair pins. You can get brown ones at Walgreens and they have several colors at Sally's Beauty Supply where the duck bill clips and curlers are.
