@MrMattyHaze Yeah, this along with Meters "Just Kissed My Baby", and Ohio Players "Far East Mississippi" may be the grittiest low-down funk songs ever. That Gurufish is a new band?? Thats some bad-ass shit too!! Like Dag kinda.

stevie's keyboard bass (again) can not be touched: funky, in the pocket, eyes closed, nasty, unleashed, talking to you and at you... damn, it's impossible to say. but the vocals and the bass are too deep to describe...
that vocal sound, that near nursery rhyme on helium tone with the digging at/into you edge reminds me a little of 'running away' by sly- they're meant to fuck with you acting like you're in control- look at you foolin' you.10 stars

Let's be real; his talent exceeds what most can do with vision or not. As a self-taught musician, singer, and songwriter I'd be honored to have half this man's ability. But I've learned not to reach that high...I just embarrass myself lol
Man...is it just me or does anyone else REALLY here someone who sounds like a young MJ singing in the background? Lol with the "hehe-hee"-ing and everything!
@BreakofDawn17 I hear it too! I know that Stevie had a back-up singer named Rico or Rego?? who had a high pitched voice. See Stevie Wonder Do I Do in London. But I can't imagine anyone so obviously copying Mike's hee-hee's or that Stevie would use it on his recording unless it was authentic??? Who knows? Would be amazing if it was Mike! Love them both!
@BreakofDawn17 I hear it too, but MJ was too young to sound like this in the early 70's. He sounded exactly like this during the mid to late seventies. MJ hung around Stevie while he recorded and learned a lot from just watching him. But yeah, this is where MJ got it from, I guess lol.
Anyway, I'm only listening these albums now. As someone who didn't grow up with his music, I'm glad that I get to appreciate him now while he's still alive.
@BreakofDawn17 That's Stevie, baby! Now we know what Mike meant when he said he spent all his time soaking up his fellow Motown artists' tips 'n' tricks in the studio. :)
Who the fuck produced this record? Damn! this ain't blues, different feel, throat throttling, pigs squelling stabbed by pitchforks under the window, wicked sisters rippin their clothes off in the other room...
I have all of Stevie Wonder's albums. Talking Book, Songs in the Key of Life, and Innervisions are my favorites. These are the quinessential albums that defined the 70's. No one has ever topped these recordings.
You know, I heard Living for the City today, and it made me want to explore Stevie Wonder more. Odd, I never noticed how much Paul Rodgers of Bad Company copped Stevie's sound (I especially hear it on this song). I mean, I love Bad Company and all, but wow, Paul was really influenced by Stevie.
I'm not a musician so forgive me if I use the the wrong term for this instrument/computer but this song is what made me start loving the "Moog Synthesizer"

This number has the deepest groove of anything in this idiom before or since. Including any of Stevie's other compositions. It's straight up blues taking a tour through funk and gospel. Blows me away every time I hear it.
@cab12000 ...Hey Cab...Steveie Wonder writes arranges and produces the majority of the songs on his albums. FYI he plays a lot of instruments also (Stevie played drums on I Wish)
@ARMONI555 Yeah Man, LFTC is one of the heaviest most important compositions in Stevie's catalogue. I'm transfixed or mesmerized every time I hear the keyboard intro and the song means more to me than MYB...but, in terms of funk, MYB rules. It's unsurpassed in its idiom.
Funny, how this song makes you wanna shut, cry, and dance all at the same time. Aint nobody funkier than steviee wonder. He is on another planet all together.
The best song from Talking Book! I think this is his greatest album, but I'm sure people will disagree with me. I love this song! I used to sing this to my ex-hubby, & I did make some make some other plans that didn't include him. What a loser. But waited 7 years to remarry a great guy, who is just like me! I didn't have to change myself for him, he loved me the way I was! And that's hard to find! But I wasn't gonna make another mistake w/being with a loser. & 25 years later, still going strong!
Great point!....I honestly learned about Stevie Wonder from other artists...in high school I fell in love with Donell Jones version of "Knocks me off my feet" ...and this initiated my love affair with Stevie's music....his songs have been covered by SO many artists....of ALL different genres....funny how the Beatles, Michael Jackson, etc. receive all their glory...but this man alone surpasses all of them in my mind and even more importantly my heart....
When this song starts it's just like somebody turns up the gravity and I'm cemented to the ground. I can barely sit up in my chair, and the funk is so overpowering that I can't even think straight. All the troubles have gone away...this one is meant to be listened to with your eyes close, just feel it. Don't think about it, just let your body do what this song commands it to.
@eamonosu Nah, from initial concept right through to vinyl, the potential's been fulfilled to the max right here - by Stevie. This, my friend, is THE manifestation - no more, no less.
Quintessential funky Stevie. Nobody can even get close to how drenched in funk this is.

Yep. Stevie Wonder and Little Richard. Those two are the whole music industry right there.

"power was given unto him to continue forty and two months"
Starting when? This song is pushing forty years . . .
But as for funk, this track would make Robert Johnson or Skip James proud, without a doubt, especially the refrain at the end
