Kalas's legendary peanut toss during the 7th inning stretch, i miss that so much. But weve been blessed with great memories at cb park, we're so lucky Harry was able to make his big world series call b4 he died and i was at the clincher, truly a memory ill never forget. this ballpark has become as much as a home to me as the vet was and is such a beautiful park. If all goes well we may be witnessing another parade on broad street, lets hope for the best...Go Phils!! long live harry & the vet!
man i still miss the vet, all the memories as a kid, i know the phils were very bad throughout the 90s but started to pull things together in the vets final yrs.I just loved it b/c it was where i saw my 1st game and my dad and i went to so many. running up and down the ramps was soo much fun, the old speed pitch, and old chickies and petes. Former late umpire Eric Gregg actually worked at chicks and petes for a while he was a very nice guy, we spoke with him many times. and of course harry ..

Realistically speaking, this place was kinda crappy. However, I was 20 when they tore it down and as the first place I've seen a game, it was MY dump.
i 4got to mention i was here too, like every true phillies fan, of course they had to lose and pack their bags like always those days lol, its ok thank god for harry calling the final out 2 yrs ago, greatest day of us phillies fans lives!
im probly amongst the few who missed the vet, being tht it was the place i saw my first phillies game @ 11 months old!. I loved paul richardsons organ playing and am so glad i was lucky enough to meet him while he was playing. I was a little kid and never 4get tht, it was soo cool. miss the 7th inning stretch w/out harry throwing the penuts :( @ least we still have a nice organ @ the new park though
My family has had Phillies season tickets since 1979, and one of the highlights of my younger days was hearing Paul Richardson. During the long winter months, I always found myself counting the days until that first Sunday game of the new season, no matter how bad the Phillies were. That first Sunday was usually cold, damp, and dreary. The hot dogs weren't real hot and the Coke made me even colder, but hearing "Tarantella" when the Phillies got a rally going made all seem right with the world
The last Phillise game I went to was in the Vet. The Organ was played live over the loud speakers. A video camera can not full capture the vet organs thuderious sound.
ive never been to a phillies game at the vet but i wish i did but i was only 7 when they knocked it down and it looks a lot different from what citizen bank parks look like.
Because the Vet was a multi-purpose stadium, used for baseball, football and concerts.
CBP has real grass (as does the Linc), but the Vet had artificial turf on a concrete slab.
To convert the Vet from baseball to football, they had to cover the base cutouts with pieces of AstroTurf, hydraulically lower the pitching mound and cover that with a piece that leveled the field which was covered with AstroTurf, and extend the bleachers in the outfield, then repaint football lines on the AstroTurf.
Wow this was back when take me out to the ballgame could sound different from game to game because they actually had an organ and organist. Citizens Bank Park lacks both.
Paul Richardson was among the top stadium organists in the major leagues. It's a shame that when the Phils moved to the new ballpark that they essentially put Paul to pasture.
Citizens Bank Park was built without an organist's booth, so Paul played on one of the stadium concourses and not during the game.
The Phils didn't renew his contract after the 2004 season. He passed away in 2006 from prostate cancer.
It is with great sadness that I report that the Phillies have lost their voice.
The beloved Hall of Fame announcer, Harry Kalas, died of a massive heart attack on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the age of 73 while preparing to broadcast a Phillies/Nationals game in Washington, DC.
The voiceover that you hear at the beginning of this video is that of long-time Phillies and Eagles public address announcer Dan Baker, who has announced for the Phillies since 1972, and the Eagles since 1985.
Baker is also the radio voice of Drexel University's men's basketball team, the Dragons.
I am sorry that you feel this way. I AM A FAN WHO WAS AT THE GAME WITH MY FAMILY. I posted this video on my site on September 30, 2003. That is teh truth. I took this with my camera. I do not know why CHISEL93 claims that the copy he made was teh original. In fact the copy was 4 seconds shorter. CHISEL93 could never explain how or where I copied it, because I didn't.
This is a DIRECT robbery of a fan-made video, not my video!
This outfit had the original fan video yanked from YouTube and now is putting the exact same video on instead.
I'm a Phillies fan who attended this game as a guest of the Phillies organization, thanks to Larry Shenk, Vice President of Public Relations of the Phillies, due to my flying my Ashburn Stadium banner at 11 games in 2003.
The Phils had a 9-2 record when I flew that banner.
I am sorry that you feel this way. I took this video with my camera, sitting with my family on the 700 level. It has been on my web site since September 30th, 2003. That is the truth. CHISEL93 could never explain how I could have copied it from him. I asked CHIESEL93 to acknowledge the true source, but CHISEL93 refused; that is when I asked You Tube to get involved and take his copy of my video off the site.
I thought you were some corporate entity that is in league with Major League Baseball, and thought that you would have probably used the statement that fans with cameras can't share video with other fans due to MLB copyright issues.
I was seated in Section 330, Row 13, Seat 15 for that game as a guest of the Phillies.
I wish that it had not come to this with CHIESEL93. I have never said no to anyone who wanted to use any of the videos or images on my site for themselves, and only asked that they identify the source.
I will be going to the last games in Shea and Yankee Stadiums where I will again tape the final 7th inning stretches.

Does any one know where the organ was located in Veterans Stadium? What kind of organ was the Veterans Stadium organ?

The Vet was much bigger than Citizens Bank Park, which seats about 45,000. It had AstroTurf instead of grass.
The Vet seated well over 60,000 for baseball, and the Eagles also played there, too.
You could walk all the way around the uppermost deck, which was called the "700 Level", which was infamous for drunken fans misbehaving.
There were no stairs like CBP has - you changed levels with ramps that zig-zagged back & forth, and there were ramps all the way around the Vet.

ohhh.
i wish i could have gone to a game at the vet. but why is there only like 5 dirt spots instead of like the whole thing dirt like cbp is today?

When I hear the song "They Paved Paradise And Put Up A Parking Lot", I think of the Vet!
AshburnStadium 2 years ago
I messed up on the title of the song - it's actually called "Big Yellow Taxi" by Counting Crows.
AshburnStadium 2 years ago
I think I'm going to have to change that to the Spectrum (1967-2009), which is still renowned for its world-class concert acoustics.
The opening lines of the song go:
They paved paradise and put up a parkin' lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique, and a swingin' hot spot
That sounds EXACTLY like what Ed Snider wants to replace the Spectrum with!
