I'm going to college for computer science...interesting how I've learned 100x more in the past 2 years on my own than I will ever learn in college (based on courses I'm taking and plan to take). Also interesting how my father, a college drop out, makes more than my mother who has a 4 year criminal justice degree. My dad brings in more than twice what she does by working at a plant.
The lowering of our standards together with the pandering on both the State and Federal level to the special interest groups with regards to hiring practices is one problem. The government incentivizes the private sector to hire people based on various tax breaks/mandates. Many businesses have streamlined their work processes utilizing technology which translates to lower paying jobs that are attainable with a high school degree. The business models in many sectors are based on these concepts.
It really amazes me that people waste time complaining about the loan system and how the workforce operates. I know that getting a job while at university will be such a benefit. Firstly you have some sort of work experience, And secondly you can start to work of some of that debt. How about getting a job over the holidays? I know here in Australia that UNi finishes around now, and starts again in march of next year. Think of all that time that could be utilized for making some money! Life is t
You don't need college to learn a trade or a skill. All you need is the drive and the determination to learn whatever it is you want to learn. Look at me. I have a GED. I taught myself Photoshop, HTML, Javascript, jQuery, Flash animation, ActionScript, music making... and so forth. I didn't take a single class for any of these skills. All I had was a desire and drive to learn. Today I am thankful to have a good job and a mortgage. Not bad for somebody with a GED and no college education eh?
They should just have like 3 or 4 teachers for the whole semesters each, teach it and get it over with. Not to make a definition that is 10 pages long, that is just ridiculous.
Honestly, if people really wanted to learn what is taught in college, like math for example, go to the library and read a math book for free. If you have no motivation to learn new material on your own, why pay to learn it??
College is a scam, and here's why: Apparently, the average cost per college year according to the college board is: 9k(mine was public and was 18k per semester). Come on, the first two years of college were a repeat of high school. Just more redundant bullshit work. Finally, years 3 and 4 give you what you should have been receiving to begin with. For 9k on average per year though? You could invest that 36k(4 year average cost) on the same books and get an actual business going with that.
think about this, your 18, instead of going to college you get a job, even if it was minimum wage, you could make 17,000 a year (washington state where i live) and save almost all of it since you are still at home anyway. If you did that for 4 years, you could have thousands saved up, even though you probably could have got maybe another job during that time. You could either spend that money and go to college later or just keep working....if only i though of this before..........
College is a waste of time for most because it is really the new high school. Too many students just try and fall through the cracks. I don't want to be a wage slave, I want to work for myself
@Skidonti not when the tution starts equating to the cost of living and then some. Then I start to call tuition a scam. Though I think all colleges (including 2 year systems) should be ablet offer 4 year degrees. Enough of this layered system bullshit and get rid of the cap on transferring units. All courses get transferred and you get credit for said courses. If that puts you 1 credit shy of graduation from a major institution so be it.
I should of never left the military it is by far more educating than anything learned in Undergrad or grad schools. Now I am dropping out of grad school to return into the service.
This video makes me see Professor Allan Bloom Univ of Chicago Great Books Closing of the American Mind as the con artist he is. I felt insecure if I don't study Great Books.
i'm on my 3rd year of college...i'm well over $20,000 in debt. I'm fairly a smart student but thing is the professors are well into this "scam" of money making.
For example: i got this biology teacher who tries to fail all the students by asking irrelevant questions that has nothing to do with biology and by writing incorrect questions(like putting double negatives)...i'm failing the class. College expects me to go back & take this class & this is just the 1st class towards my major.
As a success myself, I can certainly tell you that college is NOT the answer for everyone. Long ago we had apprenticeships. Blacksmiths taught young boys how to forge horsesheos and wagon wheels. Today we have teachers that instruct 30 students per class. Most of them may succeed in the class but not all of them can get a job.
We need to abandon this system and go back to what we know works. Guess what I do. I draw cartoons and create merchandise for them. 10's of Thousands of $ worth.
Oh please, this vid is made by and for you losers that couldn't get into college because you were either too lazy or too stupid. College is just a place to learn skills and gain knowledge, thus improving your human capital making you more hireable and worthy of respect. It’s quite simple really. Sure you can get somewhere in this world without a college degree, but study upon study have shown college graduates EARN MORE and are HAPPIER. So yeah don't be a bum kids, go to college.
@Shimo04 *Sure you can get somewhere in this world without a college degree*

@Shimo04 You must work in the education industry. Those studies are antiquated. I can guarantee you will not be happier having a worthless degree and being 70k in debt. The US has the same number of jobs it had 25 years ago. Problem is, it has 35 million more people than then. Also, you are hardly a "bum" for not going to College. Tell some roofer whos on a roof at 630am on a cold morning he's a bum.
Lol im glad i didnt fall for this college thing... i just graduated high school and know that i am not going to college...Im top percentage of my class but know for sure that investing in my own business is more important. College is good if u want to become a doctor or things that need education...But the richest people in the world didnt go to college...
College is the biggest scam in history. They're in the businesses of making money. Nothing more, nothing less. The product they sell is hopes and dreams to the hopless and greedy. The only people making out with exuberant amounts of money are the professors. The average professor's salary was $70,000 a year. This is madness.
Not the professors but the administrators. The average college administrator's salary is somewhere near $300,000/yr +benefits. Some college administrators are paid in the million-dollar range--even at state-funded schools!
Professors are slowly starting to get the short end of the stick. Tenure is becoming a thing of the past and schools are hiring more part-time than full-time faculty to keep costs down while still charging the same overpriced tuition.
Not only are the professors making money, the banks who give out student loans also. The graduates have to pay back the loan with interest. That's more money going into their pockets.
@welhungjohnson Its a FUCKIN LIE! College is a SCAM! Its all designed to take your money, Useless bullshit classes! and there's no jobs anyway! People with master's degrees are working in Home Depot!! You will need a PhD to work in Fast food soon! and wash dishes!!

@welhungjohnson Oh yes Nicholas Taleb. Alma mater: Wharton Business MBA, University of Paris Ph.D. . I'm sure he would be a real advocate of not going to College by looking at those qualifications :/. Nicholas Taleb is a fraud and a hypocrite. "They just want your money. No more, no less." Tell me then why he charges through the teeth for his glossy titled paperbacks? Surely if he didn't want profits he would provide free ebooks or pay for his own printing and then hand them out on the street?

awesome! even the rich are getting screwed on college. why does college give aid to poor students? because they want everyone's money, down to the last penny.
Thanks for exposing the College Industrial Complex./// I love it, "Financial Aid". They say they're helping you out and you have to pay them back with interest. What a sham.
I am not against those who went to college just to earn a college degree, the problem is that college is nothing more than a money making scheme.
