@with33 The Super Hornets do have an automated landing system, but Navy regulations don't permit their use. The pilot is more trustworthy than a computer and must land by hand.

Thrust is switched to full as soon as he touches down, so that he can take back off if the wire dont stop him.

He also has to be ready to eject should he not be able to either stop or get airborne again.
