This is inaccurate in many ways.Hamilton did NOT fire straight into the air. Hamilton and Burr fired almost simultaneously. Hamilton had, before he fired, asked for time to put on his glasses and practiced aiming his pistol. Jefferson had already decided not to have Burr be his VP before the duel.
