Hey how has the car been holding up for you? I'm looking at getting into a B5 S4 later in the year and just want to know how the engine maintenance is going to be...I know about the VCG's, Timing belt, etc...and as for suspension I currently own a B5 Passat so I know all about it...
@79TransAm78 The 2000 does not have a esp button, the 2001 and 2001.5 do have the esp button. (esp = traction control) and the 2002 b5's are left overs from 2001.
@goodwrench838 2002's are really 2001 cars that didn't sell. There are zero updates from 2001. (The later half of 2001 models that is) They simply sold what they had left over before releasing the new S4.
@jlgroovetek This clip was made ~10 months ago, and since then I've had no problems at all with the turbos. I've actually done 3 track days at Lime Rock as well, putting on about 225 miles of racing. Turbo's still run great! And these are stock K03's - car has 75,000 miles right now
@bigdo26 Right, I guess all turbos sound abit different; especially journal bearing ones. There definitely is abit of a high pitched squeal though but probably all good especially if it's been the same for so long.
Car looks like it pulls well, especially up top for a K03 car. I think your boost might be fluctuating just slightly between 3000 to 4500 revs - do you have a boost gauge?
@jlgroovetek I did have some boost fluctuation in that range (and boost gauge) - I've adjusted my peak boost since to cap it a little lower (would spike to 20 then back down). Much smoother!!
Having similar hesitation problems on my 2000 s4, and its bone stock. I'm pretty sure the turbos themselves are alright considering they arent making any strange noises and theres no smoke out the back. Maybe n75 valve?
Check your VAC lines, and if you haven't done it already, buy yourself some BOSH 710n's from the TT. They're reliable as fuck and will help with boost problems. The 2000's had the most problems (my nogaro is a EARLY 2000) and as soon as i replaced the DV's it helped tons. Boost was stable at 8-9psi stock and held to about 18-19psi (peaks at 21) with ASP's custom stg 2 software with a A-Box ecu.
As a reminder, Just dont buy APR shit. They design it to sell, not to perform.
Well, I'm not racing anyone, this video was done to help my diagnose some surging/hesitation I have while boosting. Driving in a straight line, making 1 shift... not too bad!!!

What surprises has the engine given you?

I know the 2000 and 2001 s4 b5 usually has turbo problems. Does the 2002 have any turbo problems like the 00 and 01 does?

Are these cars reliable because I heard they have turbo and automatic transmission problems, and what's the MPG on these?

Nice ride but 2002s seem hard to find. Why is this?
