In terms of speed the differences between a human loader and autoloader are negligible. Other reasons like turret or gun design have more influence on the the kind of loading system used than one just being faster than the other. Though I imagine for countries with small Armies and low recruitment rates, it would be more desirable to cut back on the loader with an automatic system to economize on personnel.

Back when I was a tanker, I would have agreed with you. That 4th man to pull security/maint/or fill in another crew position is an attractive option.

However, an autoloader which is fast, reliable, and allows for safe ammo storage may be the way to go.

t 72 had worse auto loader, not only was there the risk where u had ur arm in front of firing chamber and lost it, the ammo was stored below the turret meaning 1 hit that penetrates the armor would set off all the ammo making the whole tank explode.

Chinese and Russian are using the sama autoloader design 8 rounds per minute. So does the French and the Korean design (11-15 rounds per minute).

im no expert. just going by what i seen in the vid. as a side note load speed isnt everything. haha. more important is target finding and aiming speed. probably every tank mentioned here would have been reloaded by the time it acquired and aimed at a new target after the first round was fired. so a couple seconds difference probly wouldnt amount to much when it's target location, turret rotation and aiming speed that really counts.

Honestly I don't know how well or bad the FCS is, but since the Chinese Army has tested several tanks before the Type 99 and they were really very picky, the FCS surely is good enough to enable the Type 99 a first shot percentage of over 85% against moving targets and in tank vs tank maneouvers the Type 99 units never suffered a loss against Type 96, 88, 85, 59 etc.

Type 99A1 is overall a tank somewhere between a T-90S and a Leclerc I would say.

The problem with western autoloaders is that they hold less ammo than the russian ones. T-80 autoloader has 28 rounds, T-72/T-90 autoloader 22. Leclerc has 18 rounds in autoloader, which leaves the spare ammo stored in hull rack with no blow out panels. The same goes for Leo2 and Challenger 2. That spare ammo can also be detonated with an IED.

Russians recognized this flaw, and tried to correct it buy installing an EMT-7 electro-magnetic generator, that basicly pushes the magnetic "shadow" of the tank about 1.5-2m away from the tank, detonating magnetic fuse mines prematurely. I'm mentioning magnetic fuse mines, because those are the one that are constructed to specificaly detonate under the tank belly and kill the crew.

Find pictures/drawings of Type 96,98/99 tanks top view, you'll see a small hatch at the rear of the turret (between commander's and gunner's hatch). It's ejection port for metal case base, but used only with T-72 style autoloaders (T-64's autoloader puts it back to carousel). yeah, the comparisson isn't fair since the T-72 was a good tank when it came out.

a T-90 cannot be compared with a M1 or a Leopard2 since the unit costs are too different. T-90 is overall less advanced than a M1A2 SEP, but it has also a very reliable hit accuracy against moving targets and projectiles that can kill a M1 too. Also keep in mind that the T-90 weights only 46.5 t while the M1A2 SEP is way above 63 t.

T-90 chassis isn't that cheap anymore. it incorporates a lot of the expensive automotive upgrades of the T-80U, like a T-bar steering column instead of steering levers, and a more advanced and powerful upgrade of the V46-6 engine of the T-72 called the V92MS.

It's not a secret and this video show it very well. China is not the only country copying things.
