@Judahben Hi! As we see through our old myths of "how things are" (world isn't flat, sun doesn't revolve around the sun, malaria isn't caused by demons, etc.), we are asked to understand in new ways. Also, no matter what rabbit hole of knowledge we might explore, it leads us always to the Mystery. Science is finally admitting (discovering?) what mystics and sages have said all along... all the fascinating work in quantum physics being an example :-)

@AwakenSafely Hmmmm ... thinking about all this. : ) The "Mystery" being the unknown...the unknown being God..I would assume, anyway. Okay...this makes me think of when I'm home schooling my children and they are learning about atoms, etc., in their science, and they describe "how atoms work" or the model that they have come up with to describe something "no human being has seen". Judah thinks it's funny that it makes me grumpy. I tell him, "If I call an atom 'God' then I understand it."

@Judahben you know... the Universe (God) is like a very generous, secure magician...always willing to reveal the secrets behind Its most awe-inspiring tricks because It knows there's always more mystery where that came from. It will never run out of of ways to keep us gasping and asking "WHY? HOW?" :-)

@mikfax Hi! what you say is a distinct possibility. from my perspective, humanity is balancing on a very powerful fulcrum-point right now. We can choose to create something very beautiful using all the lessons of our past as guideposts--or we can slide off into destructive behaviors. That's why it is so important for individuals to experience themselves and awaken to their true potential--Who We Really Are, if you will

If thorough-going atheism fails to explain reality, then I see no reason to give it respect. That does not necessitate that I disrespect the person, but the view itself (i.e. materialism) is nonsense and leads to the same when followed to its natural conclusions.

@veritasfiles I have more in common with an honest atheist than with someone who is living within a box of unexamined beliefs. The key for me is honesty. Plus, many atheists call themselves that just because they don't know what else to say. Many wouldn't reject the notion of what @CraigHartOnline calls Energetic Universalism but they MUST reject the old stories of Sky Gods... you know?

I think it is clear there is a phenomenon occurring in our age, one of individual awakening to the limited usefulness of what you term "sky gods." It is my belief that mankind created these gods and it is now mankind that is destroying them. This is as it should be, as mankind moves along the path toward enlightenment and individual spirituality, apart from the confining and, yes, defining qualities of mere religion.
