  • Just checked out the clip posted on ur Taly.com - the best one-arm drill I've seen to date. I agree with your no roll philosophy (it's an optical illusion and should never be initiated consciously) but resisting a natural hinge as the swing gets bigger, i.e. backswing getting longer than for a pitch shot, would be nearly impossible and seriously rob you of power. But I guess for handsy flippers a proper swinging of a club would feel like no hinging at first. Thanks for a great post Taly!

  • Thanks for sharing that @Flusher77.

  • MASHED POTATOES!!!!

  • Hey guys ive started practacing at the range and hitting it 300 yards,my driver has a big head on it,is this an unwritten rule amougst golfer that this is cheating or an easy kop out buy using big headed drivers?

  • Thanks for posting @DingerZinger.

I think you need to give yourself more credit as just using a driver with a big head will not get you 300 yards.

  • Nice impact and nice finish. Ive played 2 years of college golf and have played with guys that couldn't strike the ball that well off of the tee box. The biggest key to distance it to remain relaxed and in control of your swing. This swing looks* fairly effortless, just like a solid swing should.

  • Thanks for posting @koolkat13838.

  • 2 things. That really isn't on plane on the backswing and it looks like the training aid is meant to help that. And another is that the driver looks extremely long but that coul be my mistake.

  • Thanks for posting @Crampyton1.

  • have u ever seen a tour pro with a swing like this or an impact like this?

  • Yes @realworldparticipant and this is just a simplified way of achieving that impact.

  • @scoremore05

14-3/10 Use of Training or Swing Aid During Round

  • Thanks for posting @lmd168. My answer is yes and no.

Yes I recommend the TALY MIND Set but not for the reasons you've mentioned. You're only 4 weeks in so let's make sure you have fun first.

Which body parts to move and where to move them will come later but for now, like dschultz6072 mentioned, hit balls and find out how you make contact.

If you use our red ball, shift your focus from your clubhead and just swing the red ball over the golf ball. That'll give you nice solid impact.

  • @scoremore05 Thanks for the reply, I have actually been training really hard everyday, watching videos and visit forums trying to understand the theory. However I have been slicing the ball/hitting the ground first I am sure I am doing something fundamentally wrong with my swing.

I have attended 5 sessions of group lessons with a coach, however I feel that I am not getting a lot out of those sessions. I guess my question is if I follow the Taly redball, will that correct my swing?

  • I don't need to cheat like you cock suckers to be good and hit the ball 300 yards sure i don't do it every drive but i hit it 250 to 280 at least every drive and Im 15 and start varsity on my golf team

  • Wow @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A. 15 years old hunh?

    Thanks for posting.

  • @scoremore05 yes i am im a big kid though im 6.2 and 140 and my friends think it's crazy how far i drive the ball haha

  • I was more referring to the unnecessary language @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A, but still, thanks for posting.

  • Comment removed

  • @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A

    6'2, 140 lbs with a HUGE head.

  • @prwilli75 how do i have a huge head when i can do it

  • @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A

Congrats, you can do it. I do not fault you for saying you can. But sometimes the way people tell of their accomplishments can overrule their accomplishments. Nobody likes a arrogant person. Confidence is well received in most cases.

  • @scoremore05 Saying your average drive is 30 yards between 2 distances then you are clearly a bullshitter. and a 300 yard drive doesn't do you any good OB

  • Thanks for posting @As3sinoL0C0.

I'm assuming that this comment was meant for @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A and not Scoremore05.

  • @scoremore05 ah. oops. yeah it was. my bad

  • @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A Your profile says you're 21, and if you feel it necessary to comment on people "cheating" their way to driving 300, feel free to upload a video of you driving that far. It's not talent if its overcompensated by cockyness

  • @apcarter03 Ya it says im 21 but im 15 you clown and it's not cocky when i can do it and it isn't talent it is something that i have and is a big advantage

  • @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A Then upload a video of you hitting 300 and there won't be a problem :)

  • @FOXRIDERPRODUCTION1A dude go home... Half the guys on the varsity team that I play for are 14-15 years old and drive the ball dead straight and between 300-310 consistent.

  • I totally disagree with what this video is promoting. The backswing doesn't matter no matter how crappy it is, its the downswing that matters (Ricky Fowler). Another fail

  • Thanks for posting @lakefootballfreak and if you look at what's occurring you would see that I am making your point.

This video shows that the backswing does not need to play much of a role at all.

  • @lakefootballfreak You misunderstand what the video demonstrates. Keeping the load angle between the right hand and the shaft at impact is what most golfers cannot do. That is what this technique seems to be promoting. If you swing with your arms and not your body, you cannot keep the handle and hands in front of the ball at impact with the right hand still set (not flipping through).

  • @lakefootballfreak

wow...ricky's backswing is crappy? u need to read some books

  • question: why does barely no one in the professional level use this simple no hinge swing if it works so easily?

  • @fishblade2 because everyone has a different swing and it is much easier to tinker with an existing swing and live with habits/tendencies formed long ago than to destroy and rebuild one. you could ask any professional "why" they do what they do in their golf swing and you'll get different answers from everyone even if you're discussing the same movement. golf is not a game of perfect swing, it's a game of lowest score. the less thought process put into the swing, the better. hit the flag.

  • Great points @dschultz6072. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting @fishblade2.

Keep in mind that what you are seeing is simply the underlying workings for a solid move. I am demonstrating what is important but I could also very easily just take a normal address position and hide what I am really doing in my golf swing.

And as for the pros, a bunch of them in the top 30 use the TALY MIND Set for different parts of their game.

  • funny swing

  • lol

  • I would imagine that a golfer, if used the taly swing thingie, positon memory posture and arc would be set into the muscles, so after a while, the user can remove the device and the swing would just 'feel' right. Enabling the fine tuning for accuracy. Smart stuff. Do you have a left handed one? jk...lol..

  • Thanks for posting @THUND3RF1SH.

Fortunately, the TALY MIND Set works for both left and right handed golfers.

  • o my lanta look at his right calf after the swing SHITTTT a couple too many calf raises jesus

  • @scoremore05 its cheating because you're not allowed to use swing ids while playing golf on the course according to usga rules

  • Incorrect alanboy94.

You are not allowed to use swing aids DURING A COMPETITIVE ROUND (which this is not).

That's why they have practice rounds on Tour. There are many things that you can do during those rounds that you cannot during competition.

    Thanks for posting.

  • @scoremore05 you're not allowed to use swing aids on the golf course. thats how its cheating

  • Some of the things that help his swing work are good posture, and great balance. Notice how he does not waver at all on the finish. Nice!

  • so does this thing actually work because im having a little trouble with consistency right now. when from hitting an 88 to a 99. catching it thin and slicing at the same time

  • i dont get how that thing helps dude !?

  • Thanks for posting SevenSiinsx.

The TALY MIND Set helps in a lot of ways and works for putting, chipping, full swing, driver, and mental game.

It shows golfers where to put their arms and what path to move them on.

It takes the focus off your golf swing and results in your golf ball getting hit. It takes away the hit impulse and eliminates an over the top move. Just pass the red ball over the golf ball.

It helps golfers find their swing.

Visit TALY dotcom when you get a chance.

  • @scoremore05 sounds very good.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Taly your cheating man!!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting TheBigezee77. Care to explain?

  • harms and wrists i feel like are more of the golf swing.

  • I DOUBT THAT WENT 300 YARDS

  • What type of shaft are you using? X-Stiff, Stiff, or Regular?

  • I believe Stiff.

  • hey if you can hit it good doing that I'm sure that if you went back to a normal swing you would hit it a lot better. What's your h cap?

  • You make a good point GunCoppaz and yes you are correct. If I go to a normal swing now, I am actually longer because I now move through the ball better because of this technique.

This move actually prevents my arms from springing off my chest into the golf ball as a result of my backswing, and it is also good for other golfers to see how far you can hit a golf ball while holding your arms in that position.

    I'm a single digit.

  • @scoremore05 how do you determine a your handicap??

  • I personally wouldn't want to wear this thing on a golf course / (while golfing) - my opinion - and is this just a training method or is it a compulsory thing, take you for example (or whoever this person is), is it a necessity or is it a tool to help improve 'your' game?; thanks (:

  • Thanks for posting JakeeOOisOObored.

No you don't need to wear it on the course. The red ball position will ingrain in your mind when you practice with it and all you have to do is think about it during your swing instead of trying to hit the golf ball.

Most low handicappers and Tour players who have it, use it on the range and putting green.

  • what is that thing on your arm and if it helps were can i get one

  • It's called the TALY MIND Set and you can get it at taly dotcom

  • what is the position of the back of the left hand 8in before impact ,at impact, and 8in after impact,,trying to understand release of the club ,,,thanks

  • Thanks for posting sulakleo.

IMO it should be open relative to your chest and remain that way throughout your move.

However, when you look at it on video, it will appear to be closing but that is because of your body movement.

Please remember that we are presenting SIMPLIFED MOVES with the least amount of moving parts.

So we understand that you could close your clubface using other means but it is not necessary.

Leave it wide open relative to your chest and you'll be fine.

  • Thanks for the reply I really enjoy reading your post and dude I never under stood what impact was suppose to feel like until I hit it with my body it's unreal everyone I have played golf with could use this tool one way or another

  • Thanks for posting PlottRacing.

  • Can you use this swing with your irons and wedges? Btw love the swing just wondering how consistent it will be? A video of you hitting iron shots would be great, keep up the good work!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting PlottRacing,

Just click on my name "scoremore05" and other videos will pop up showing some different clubs and shots.

Our engineering company has put together 3 simplified swings and I pretty much only use this one off the tee.

It can work with your irons and wedges but it's too powerful. Once I am in the fairway, I more need accurracy than power.

I like to use our Vertical Arm Drop move which also has no hinge and no squaring.

  • Hi bud after all the youtube vids I've seen this is the best it shows the proper angle of attack on the downswing when I saw ur vid it gave me a good mental image on the golf course shot best round of 76, would you mind looking at my swing and giving me a few suggestions the one on my account is after I saw yours. Thanks for posting

  • Hi Eddiebutt1,

    Thanks for posting.

Your swing looks great and you can obviously score so now it's just about repeatability.

You're an arm swinger who moves very well through the ball.

I checked out some of your other videos and I Iiked the fact that you limit your backswing.

My only suggestion for you would be to slow down your swing and get in control of your impact.

You'll be more connected and it will keep your clubface on the golf ball longer, so more compression.

  • Taly,

I've been playing golf for 40 years - always scoring between 85 and 100. My distance has always maxed out at 220 yards; I'm a pretty good athlete but seem unable to overcome this barrier. I think my problem stems from an inability to maintain a firm left wrist. Any comments or suggestions?

    Thanks !!!

  • Thanks for posting 15wampum32,

Are you interested in improving your distance or your score?

Also, how often do you miss the green in a round and on average, how many shots will it take from there to put the ball in the hole?

  • I'd like to do both ! I hit from 4-6 greens in regulation. I'm a good putter (average last year of 33 putts per round). My pitching and chipping are suspect - definitely problem areas.

    Thanks for your response !

  • wots that thingy on your arm

  • Hi Taly. You talk about maintaining shaft flex rather than swing speed for powerful shots. So what shaft flex do you normally use? Would it be better to have a regular flex to generate power with your techniques?

  • Hi vidvivvid,

I use a stiff flex but I recommend that you go down to the range and experiment with a couple different shafts.

More flex doesn't necessarily mean more power.

It's like a plastic ruler. Just because you can bend it really far back, doesn't mean that it will sting more than a firmer ruler which you can only pull back half as far.

  • Hi Tally,

I have a mind set but I don't have the same hip action as you do. What are you thinking when you unwind your hips?

    John

  • Hi John,

Thanks for posting and more importantly, let's find your hip action.

I actually don't focus on hip action as it happens naturally when you move the red ball on the correct path.

When you decide not to swing or release anymore, your body will find a different way to leverage itself and generate power.

I'll send you an email and we can go from there.

  • dear tally,

im 15 years old, i hit the ball 260, im a 6 handicap, have 27-35 putts every round, and ive lost my love for the game. i dont really get excited anymore. i just play golf to shoot a low score and tell everyone else how good i am. i used to have more fun back when i was shooting in the 100's for christ sake. any suggestions?

  • They say hips but I like to think more left lower back (for right handers), near your left love handle. That's the part that coils on a good backswing so that's the part you want to uncoil. Just stay loose with the grip throughout and never start with your hands/arms on the downswing. Uncoil/unwind and just hold the club with your hands.

  • I think its really nice to replie to almost every comment

  • That's not 300 yards, but it is a good drive though.

  • that's the shortest 300 yrd drive I've ever seen..

  • Nice swing! It almost looks robotic. ha.

  • is it legal to use that ball thing in tournament play?

  • Hi sicknastygolf,

No but the goal is to ingrain your best red ball path during practice and then take it off and imagine it's position during your swing.

This keeps your thoughts off your swing which solves a big problem in golf.

Another benefit is that the red ball is engineered to move on plane so it gives a beginner golfer on-plane thoughts.

Alot of the PGA Tour players are using the TALY MIND Set and many low handicappers wear it during practice rounds.

  • Effective and simple; therefore repeatable and did I say effective. Is that not the point..I laugh at you nitpickers. Ultimately we all crave the same thing and you critics of an OBVIOUS GREAT SWING just prove you just a bunch are mere wanters and whiners.

  • Hi horacewild,

Well put and very true. What we have found is that we get thousands of great emails directly to our site, but some of the posters in this format tend to take a different slant.

I do like it though when serious questions are asked because I think many more people view the comments than write them.

With regards to the golf swing, there are so many ways to do it and like you said, it's just about finding one that you can repeat.

  • do you play regularly for a score with those clubs?

  • I only wear the TALY MIND Set for practice rounds and don't keep score when I am using it.

A lot of low handicappers will also wear it on the course but use it mainly for short game.

If you check some of the "What's in the Bag" articles online, you will see that more and more of the PGA Tour pros keep one in their bag.

  • i looked at this video and the website. i still dont know what this training aid is supposed to do. There needs to be audio to accompany the video. You need a professional production team, if this product is any good.

  • Hi sethisawesome,

The red ball on the TALY tool gives the golfer a reference point for any type of swing.

In this video, the red ball gives the golfer the correct spine angle and plane because the red ball must pass over the golf ball.

Also, it reduces the number of things a golfer has to worry about. Just move the red ball. It works for putting, chipping, and full swing.

  • i don't think i really understand what the tool does.

  • Hi Scoremore05,

Can you tell me why your start your swing with the club in that position

Also is your grip is a strong left hand and is this the address position you use for all the clubs or just the woods

If I order taly the mind set will I get full instructions i.e. DVD, Book

only on the GolfWRX website the product is spoken of fondly but criticised for lack of instruction

    Thank you Foxhay

  • Hi foxhay,

I start my swing from that position to show that you can generate tremendous power without a backswing, and to find my proper spine angle. On the right tilt the red ball passes over the golf ball.

I like a strong grip for all clubs. Anything which turns the forearm more to the right is very powerful and helps ensure that the club doesn't pass the hands before impact.

PGA Tour will shoot the DVD later this year with the infomercial. We now have lots of videos on our site.

  • intresting.. I would have to think the distance comes from the ball being on the face of the club for a longer period of time . Therefore allowing a an extended period of time that the path is straight

  • Hi 1Spyke23,

No problem at all and thanks for posting. I agree with you regarding this swing not being on "one plane" for the whole swing, but I recommend looking at the downswing.

Many "one plane" swings have two plane backswings, but on the downswing portion you will see that both the red ball (i.e. the left arm) and the golf clubhead follow the same path and pass over the golf ball.

We also have a two plane swing posted at the TALY website if you get a chance to check.

  • It might just be the angle you shot this at.

I don't want to bash you either.

But your swing doesn't look 'one plane.'

Difficult to say since you didn't start at address but you certainly seem to be going to the inside of your plane quite quickly. At the top of your swing you can really see the change of your plane from outside to inside.

  • the swing is supposed to go inside out on the downswing

  • WTF is that thing on elbow?

  • Hi mysticmalteaser,

It's called the TALY MIND Set and you can find it online at the website: TALY.

I don't know if you can post the address on YouTube but just do a search for "taly" or "the mind set golf tool" and it will pop up.

  • Hi studlyt15,

That's the easy part because I simply repeat the path of the red ball when I go play and the same shot occurs.

  • unconventional but can you do it with out the swing aid?

  • This guy has a beautiful golf swing

  • Thanks billysandy,

    I appreciate the feedback.

  • By the way scoremore05, are these little red ball products available in the UK from a UK dealer or anything, they seem really great and i love the swing. I have always told my dad to shorten his swing, because the longer it is, the less accurate it will be - am i right?

  • Yes you are right that longer is less accurate. Also less powerful because you are more disconnected.

Our engineering studies show that you don't require much of a backswing because the further your change of direction is from the golf ball, the more likely the power will be released before it gets transferred into the golf ball.

So you can generate more power, but you also lose more and also transfer less.

To order you can visit the TALY website or do a search for TALY golf.

  • I'd like to see this study. Are you saying some one can't learn to hold the angle until the impact zone? "...but you also lose more and also transfer less." makes little sense. But that reasoning, we should all just hit half wedges with flat lofts.

  • Hi jaymaynk,

Golfers are actually taught to "release the angle" and I do not agree with that for a simplified powerful swing.

You also mentioned that what I said about "losing more and transferring less" makes no sense. Why is that?

When you take a longer backswing you can generate more power but you also lose more because you are going to lose the extra power that you generated.

And because you're even more disconnected you also transfer less because your ball contact is poorer.

  • this seems like a great product, but are you really supposed to use it on he course?

  • Hi Skittlehead1,

You are right. You can't use it in competition but you can play with it on during non-competitive or recreational rounds.

We have a lot of scratch golfers that do this during their practice rounds to ingrain their red ball path.

Check out the TALY website when you get a chance as we have a ruling from the USGA posted there.

  • I wonder if the Scott's designed the game with the foresight of such an invention?

  • Who cares?

  • This doesn't teach you a good swing. Yeah buy this if you want to play golf without ever learning how to really swing a club properly. Slice your way around the course and you'll be fine! His website says to stop "squaring your club face" and also to stop "aiming at the target" LOL! There's a lot more to golf than hitting it 300 yds. This is a product for suckers.

  • Hi CrikeyAlexNick,

Do you mind sharing with all of us how you swing your club and your level of play?

Scores haven't changed in over 100 years and too many moving parts is a major factor.

Do top instructors, PGA professionals, and U.S. colleges all have it wrong? They've begun using it.

The red ball can transfer ANY SWING METHOD to the course. Even yours.

Not to mention the TALY Tool's benefits for short game and putting which are matched by no training aid out there.

  • look I've not got his training aide but there's a difference between saying "stop [attempting] squaring your clubface" and not value hitting the ball with a square face.

I think he's saying the former and not the later.

High handicappers attempt at "squaring the face" is usually mis-interpreted and turns into a cast or wrist flipping motion. That firm left wrist has already "squared the face" with the proper motion so no need to think about it.

    'course I may be wrong

  • Great points mosafef.

  • looks like it makes you go over the top.

  • Hi missingsolution,

The TALY Tool doesn't make you do anything. It simply reveals the path that you are swinging on so you can repeat it, if you so choose.

Most golfers have an over the top move where they start with their shoulders, so all we have done is shown them how to use that move to get great results.

To start with your shoulders, pass the red ball over the golf ball and DON'T SWING YOUR ARMS.

There are also many other swings that the red ball can show you how to repeat.

  • there's no way that went 300

  • Hi sknowmann,

We already proved it for the Golf Channel forum. Do a search for TALY and visit our site.

Taly agreed to be tested by the PGA testing lab for Southern California and easily averaged over 300 yards.

  • Where can I get one of these?

  • Hi Imartise,

The product is called The TALY MIND Set and you can find it online at our website: TALY.

I don't know if I am allowed to post my website but just do a search for "taly" or "the mind set golf tool".

  • i'm pretty sure the USGA doesn't allow training aids during play, cheater.

  • Yes morongene,

You are correct. That would be a breach of USGA Rule 14-3A.

However, we have many excellent golfers who actually wear the TALY MIND Set during practice rounds to ingrain their best red ball path.

  • what is that thing attached to your left arm?

  • Hi chaamjamal,

Check out ESPN and NBC. It is going to be at the golf tournament with all the celebs like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, John Elway, Ray Romano and more.

  • Charles Barkley needs a little more help than just this tool!! LOL

  • i had a 2 hour session with a pro that my dad knows, and my handicap went from 18 to 5. i'm 14 btw.

  • Hi lionspremier08,

Sounds like a great teacher. Keep up the great work.

  • Where in this video does it show a stright shot that reaches 300 yds.? If your a course pro than you have a higher swing speed than most weekenders. People, if you wish to improove your distance A. get a better driver B. hit the ball in the center of the club face C. don't waste your money on gimicks. Spend it on a lesson with a course pro. I took 4 two hour lessons that includded 9 holes of golf with the pro after each lesson for a total of $200. My handicap went from a 14 to a 4, no gimmicks

  • Hey how much is that and can u give me the info, and can u make a vid that explains how to use!?

  • Hey pgapro16,

Thanks for visting. The product is called The TALY MIND Set and you can find it online at our website: TALY.

I don't know if I am allowed to post my website but just do a search for "taly" or "the mind set golf tool".

  • hey taly

i was looking at your swing and it looks like your drives are good, but i was wondering about your iron play.

It looks like your iron play would be inconsistent, I'm probably wrong but tell me how your iron play is.

  • Hi foxysocks24,

Interesting question. My iron play is pretty consistent but I don't use the same swing as the one shown in the video. The body swing in the video is more for power and for irons I use a more vertical arm swing.

  • ok that explains it then

    tks tally

  • who sells the mind set gadget

  • do a google search on "taly" It's called "the MIND Set from TALY".

  • whats on your elbow - not meaning to be nosy you don't have to answer

  • Not nosy at all. It's called The MIND Set from TALY

  • u do swing your club full ? its just a little shorter than usual ? and 274.32 meters isnt that great.... ^^ i hit it bout 290 meter - 315 yards average... u think i could improve my distance ? this would be great...

  • Hi premierclip,

I am not sure how much further you can hit the ball since it sounds like you are crushing it already. Do you have your swing posted anywhere?

What I would be looking for is to see how you are generating your power and whether you are transfering the majority of it into the golf ball.

  • Hope you're not keeping score on that round :)

  • You're right. I shouldn't keep score on that round but I did. However I didn't post it.

On the same note, we recently received a ruling from the USGA regarding wearing The MIND Set while playing. Check out the "Breaking News" section of our site.

  • There is no way you could wear that while playing, it is clearly a training aid, and those are illegal in official rounds. With that being said it looks like an interesting product. Keep it up

  • Thanks.
