Many a great, even legendary tenor, both and present, has floundered attempting to sing this beautiful aria whose simplicity, like all great art, belie their difficult creation and execution. But K Tarver is definitely an exception here. The first three entry notes are damn important and will decide the success (or failure, as the case may be) of the whole attempt. Excellent.
I had to look up his biography. He looked so much like a tenor who sang Belmonte to my Osmin years ago. Sounds like him too. But he's too young. The date's don't work.
This is the man who personally got me into opera. He deserves all the acclaim he can get.
And by personally, I mean I actually started singing because I met this guy when he was in Detroit and he inspired. He's wonderful both on and off the stage.
He sings Arbace on Jacob's Idomeneo. The part is insignificant and usually atleast one of his arias are cut but he sings both of them on the recording with such beauty that you couldn't imagine not having them. Check them out.
Such a riiiich voice. When he has a few more years under his belt, that heavenly voice will explode with color--it has so many beautiful overtones to it.
Why? Because of the power of the Media. Certain tenors with recording contracts are highly pushed and proclaimed as unrivalled while others with just as much talent are ignored and even kept out of leading opera houses so as not to crowd the field. Trust you ears, this tenor is first class and deserves to be better known!
Glorious - gives me goosebumps!
