I suggest we shrink union payouts and power; they certainly must not be allowed to toss the secret ballott with Card Check. Perhaps they could be cut down to size on the basis of antitrust. We must also find a way to help our industries compete with foreign industries, many of which have federal subsidies that allow their companies to sell at a lower price--but this is not fair trade as it stands. What can we do to get our manufacturing base back and thriving?
Free trade, by definition, is a two way street, where products flow both ways without protectionism. If the free part is only one way, this is neither free trade nor fair trade. Our manufacturing sector has succombed to union demands for too much for too many years, leaving our menufacturing vulnerable to competition from foreign lands who don't have to pay for outlandish union demands.
"We remain opposed as ever to protectionism, because America's growth and future depend on trade. But we would insist on trade that is fair AND FREE. We are always willing to be trade partners but never trade patsies."
@weis7 You are right, fair and free trade. I am not sure how I understand how you have free market solutions though without a free trade program. I adhere to the Austrian economic philosophy (IE Ludwig Von Mises) so I believe n complete and total Laissez Faire economics. How does fair trade fit into the Laissez Faire model?
Exactly ... I'm telling you, when we need to start making naval ships with speed because we're being invaded by China or what not Where are our Steel companies to make the ships fast enough to not get our butts kicked? Where are our zipper companies, Dead industries that's where! Bring factories back home. Put America to work again!
Not every American goes to Collage and from the looks of it even those that did , are out of work now, a factory here and there would of been nice wouldn't you say! Enough already! The Rich got so greedy the Commies knew exactly how to buy them out, Money!
Trade is a vital issue. If American goods are facing 15 - 25% VAT-Tariffs, then we have to compensate with a Tariff Revenue System.
Why not Protect America ?? I we don't who will !!

Isn't this the REAL Reagan quote?
