"Let it cool down!" - WTF? No, dude.. let it settle but not cool. That increases the thickness and makes the oil change less effective by the oil pouring slower and probably not getting as much old oil out of there as you would if you'd just run the car warm, let it settle for about 15 minutes then pour the old oil out.
I use a oil filter socket on all cars that I work on so that way you do not damage the oil filter when thighting on the new filter. I always fill the new oil filter with oil so you won;t have a lossage of oil pressure.
I've always heard 3k for oil, 5k for synthetic... But I guess it can vary slightly because the synthetic oil I use says every 15k... I don't quite trust that though
check your owners manual or a workshp manual for your car, my mate use mobil 1 ep with a mobil one oild filter ep and does 15000kms between changes and the oil that comes out is pretty close to new.
@gwar10 OEM recommendation for millage, 7500Mi is if you do all long range highway driving but its good to do every 3K or 6 months. Same goes for getting your dangle parts checked.
@gwar10 Most vehicle manufacturers recommend changing the oil once a year or every 7,500 miles in passenger car and light truck gasoline engines. For diesel engines and turbocharged gasoline engines, the usual recommendation is every 3,000 miles or six months.
@gwar10 wrong... the 3000 mile myth is from dealers and oil shops like super lube etc... you should follow your car's MANUFACTURER recommendation, not super lube's. newer cars are being able to go longer and longer without changing.
Also check fluid levels too at the same time and is must during every oil change. Most newer GM drain plugs are 15mm for the drain plug size and that is a 15mm,not 9/16.
My mobil one oil filter is black...

@Danger1O7 The owner's manual is the best way to know exactly when to change your oil. As well as what fluids you should use exactly.

Its actually a better idea to change the oil while the engine is warm rather than cold, because you get the sludge out of the engine.
