  • Anyone else notice the medium shaking his head "no" at 25:20 ish? He clearly doesn't believe a word he just said. For a cold reader, he's a really shitty liar.

  • I'm amazed that he can keep a straight face while talking to some of these people.

  • @prezoftheworld i know, how does he do it?!

  • @prezoftheworld Does Dawkins realize that in the name of reason, hundreds or thousands of people were killrd during the French revolution. Stalin, Pol Pot, and Mao thought it reasonable to kill millions to further their goals. Reason, untempered by faith is just as dangerous as faith without reason.

  • From the book of n'Brith.

And an angel appeared to Noob who dwelt in the house of b'Ush. Travel to the land of Sol and there thou wilt find Scholars and harlots. Thou shalt fill the harlots tabernacles with molten bronze that they be sealed from the seed of men. Harken not to their screams or tears for just is the lord. Leave them to rot upon the earth for a day and half a day. Those of tender years shall not be left but after a time have their vaults cleaved and be hang upon the branches.

    Amen.

  • I don't like cats...

"If you give a dog food, shelter and love he will think that you are god, If you give a cat the same things she will draw the conclusion that she is god"

  • February of 2010 I went w/a friend to see a 'psychic.'

When I entered the room had the same skepticism as most people thinking the psychic would just give me general readings, but she told me very specific things. She said in May I would be in a relationship with a girl whose name starts with "N," and that in August I would get a promotion, and that I would get in a car accident in 2011. I left and completely forgot about all those predictions, only to remember them when they had all come true.

  • @SpaceWineTV I am not in anyway saying that what Dawkins claims is b.s., although, from my experience, I do believe that out of all the obviously fraudulent psychics and astrologers, there might be some legitimate fortune tellers out there.

  • "Astronomy is a triumph of the human intellect, a real science constantly enriched by new evidence." YES!

  • 240p hnnnnnnnng

  • this is so true and funny lol :D

  • 0:00 numb your hole, gang rape you, numb your hole, gang rape you

  • and I thought Gob was just a character on Arrested Development..41:58

  • I love Richard Dawkin's body of work. I wonder if he took himself out of his comfort zone making The Enemies of Reason.

  • it seems that this episode raises more questions than answers primarily because it's hard to explain to people things like reason, science and critical thinking since their "mind set" is such that they can not clearly distinguish between rational and irrational. And in my opinion the best way to spread reason and critical thinking is education, which desperately needs improvements and changes nowadays.

  • @SB9101 I think you mean more thumbs up

  • @TheScienceFoundation No, he means thumbs down. Because the people who NEED to see this are the ones most likely to disagree with it (or feel threatened by it).

  • @SB9101 I think you mean more thumbs up

  • @TheScienceFoundation People who find this out of their view would be more likely to dislike the video. That is why I wish there to be more thumbs down. I want people who doesn't hold these ideas to watch this so that there are a bigger proportion who actually realize their faults and like the video instead. That's how I reason. =) But I also wish this video and videos like this had way more views. The only way to convert anyone to atheism is to allow them to realize reason themselves.

  • @SB9101

Thats the thing isnt it... Nobody needs to be TOLD there is no god. Most of us dont need to be told this and those that do will never listen. Its obviously futile to tell the pope there is no god. What makes us watch it is the odd freakshow moment and the fanaticism of certain individuals.

  • @Janusha That's actually pretty accurate. Still some people can be convinced. Eventually religion will fade away. :)

  • @SB9101

Its also very disconcerting that 2 british people... are now making big names for themselves and presumably get paid quite well to travel across america, telling flagwaving, bewildered americans there is no god.

Back in England or indeed across all of Europe, that business venture would simply not work.

  • @Janusha I guess so, but then europe are less religious or at least they keep religion in their homes and melt in with tradition.

  • @SB9101

Americans have a kind of pathologic aversion towards any foreign influence. Their attitude is often extreme such as their foreign policy "you are either with us or against us". Anything which isnt american is anti american, anything which isnt christian is anti christian. Its really about nationalism tho. With their "Gods own country!!" and their constant "God bless America" Its about their unshakable belief in their own superiority that no amount of bankruptcies and "reality" can shake.

  • @Janusha So I suppose you have never heard of Sam Harris or Daniel Dennett. They are atheists doing the same thing and are both Americans. Believe it or not, the whole world doesn't revolve around the United States.

  • @ghostframer

    Nope.. never heard of those.

  • @Janusha Too bad, they are worth reading. Read Sam Harris' book "The End of Faith." It's very enlightening. Daniel Dennet is also a philosopher and his books are a lot harder to get through, but worth the effort.

  • @ghostframer

Imi not really a person that struggles with the end of faith in any shape. Im more concerned with the amount of people that actually do. As such its freakshow weird to see how 2 enlightened, educated and intellectual british people make a good living and a healthy career out of travelling around USA telling people there is no god. I mean... do we REALLY need to be told this ?

  • @Janusha There are more religious believer in the US than in any other first-world country. And other countries do not want the US run by religious bigots looking for the end times. Hitchens (until his death) was living in the US and is an American citizen. Both he and Dawkins are continually invited onto news shows, debates and college campuses to speak. People in the US want to hear what they have to say.

  • @SB9101 Well then clearly, you're still enslaved.

  • @DarknessUnresolved what do you mean?

  • @SB9101 Well this docu. makes perfect sense in every way. So why would you wish it had more "thumbs down"?

  • @DarknessUnresolved I want people who would dislike this video to watch it so that a small part of them might be convinced otherwise :P It was a bit of a stretch, I know, I didn't make myself clear. Atheists don't need to watch this, religious people do.

  • @SB9101 OOOH, i see what you meant now. My apolygies.

  • @DarknessUnresolved No worries, it is easaly misunderstood. I wasn't very clear on the matter.

  • when a stupid cat video gets 20,000,000 views and great shows like this gets only 13,081 views by it self show in what kind of society we live in. we live in a society that jersey shore is the most popular show and people go to church on Friday to pray to become more and more richer from their Superstition and our cat videos are the most viewed clips.

  • @mhr88 OMG thank you i love you so much!!!!!!!! :) although i would disagree with the cat part, sure it doesn't deserve as much views and popularity as Dawkins, but it's not stupid ;)

  • @mhr88 Most people can't understand Mr. Dawkins. Too many people are amazingly stupid. The cat is about as much as they can handle.

  • Lucky us we have someone like mr. Dawkins. So purifying and liberating.

  • brilliant, thanks a lot.

  • Oh, Richard, how I love you! Greetings from Scandinavia.

  • Sounds like Donnie Darko music starting around 06:50

  • Science isn't a new religion, religion is an old science.

  • @ScottBrown666 Religion might be similar to science for they both propose an explanation over things, but that's about it. Religion is not a science because it isn't based on facts. Fact.

  • orbiters to neptune?

  • Religion is a candle inside a multicolored lantern. Everyone looks through a particular color, but the candle is always there.

  • I am a slave to superstition. I have ocd.

  • @strafer I have OCD as well, but we are not slaves to superstition in the same way as those in the video. We understand the nature of our anxiety disorder, however much we give in the irrationality of our obsessions. We understand the distress that the thoughts and behaviours cause us. Those in the video embrace their superstitious beliefs without understanding the psychological side.

  • @fredler01 That's a good way of putting it.

  • DarkHeart135 said, "Those who cannot understand, doubt."

I would prefer to say, "Those who doubt often have greater understanding."

However, we all march to different tom toms. Some people see most of the truth; some people see part of the truth; and some people see none of the truth.

There should, in my view, be more understanding of why we perceive things as we do. The subject of perception is quite revealing.

Trust me; I use sun screen.

    Truthinessly,

    Stan Kossen

  • "those who cannot understand, doubt" is quite possibly the most ignorant argument about religion or lack thereof. If that's your logic, then why don't you just say "I read that God exists in a book, owned"

  • lol proving christ fags wrong every day

  • Those who cannot understand, doubt.

  • This is a subject you can't take seriously, because neither side can prove anything. Sure science has proven a lot but until it can explain how the hell that big bang happened im not gonna say there isn't a God. Same with religion, until we have a visit from "God" im not believing a damn thing.

    Hurray for agnostism.

  • @jnashification

Yes, it can. We've recreated it under simulated conditions.

  • @ThisIsAGreatName How does a simulation prove anything?

  • @jnashification Are you kidding me? A simulation is one of the best ways to prove anything. Of course it proves something.

  • @SPAS12beast Simulations can prove something but they do not prove there is no diety.

I did not mean to make it sound like simulations are useless.

  • @jnashification

Your completely right. Simulations prove nothing, thus we should stop making them and send our military out into the field without training.

  • @ThisIsAGreatName What I mean to say is that while simulations are a valid tool to get insight on something they still do not 100% prove something.

Did not mean to make it sound like simulations are completely useless.

  • @jnashification I'm glad you dont blindly believe things until they are presented to you but buddy the whole point of the big bang "theory" was to figure out how it happened and astrophysics has gone a long way to do so. Search up some documentaries on the big bang and you'll realize that many pieces of this puzzle was found decades ago and recently put together. However since the ideas of separate dimensions came to be the big bang is nothing more than one of the infinite possibilities.

  • @jerjerjason My point was meant to say that science has not proven there is no diety, neither has religion, simple as that. Therefore im not an atheist nor a religious person.

  • @jnashification

Firstly, no one has to disprove any ridiculous claim. It's up to the believers to prove that what they believe in actually exists and that it is a rational and reasonable thing to believe in.

Secondly, agnosticism is not an answer to a question about belief. If someone asks "Do you believe in God?" and you say "I'm an agnostic.", you've answered nothing. You just avoided the question.

Agnosticism is all about knowing. It's got nothing to do with belief at all.

  • @gnawershreth Exactly, it is about knowing, but when I say im agnostic im saying that I gotta see it to believe it right? I don't think im necessarily avoiding the question.

What I mean to say is I have to know its 100% proven to side with a point of view, and since neither religion nor science has fully proven if theres a diety or non diety, I really don't believe in much.

  • @jnashification

That's not how belief works though. If someone asks you about belief in God, you will never be undecided, since that doesn't make any sense when talking about belief.

Like, if I told you that I can jump over a volleyball net. Either you believe me or you don't. You may not KNOW for a fact that I can or can't, but you will still either believe or disbelieve my statement.

Most "normal" people are agnostic when it comes to faith, but you're either agnostic atheist or theist.

  • @jnashification

I also have to know it's 100% proven if I'm to believe any claim about a god. But that's exactly what makes me an atheist. Since it hasn't been proven, I don't believe it. So I'm an agnostic atheist. I don't claim to know for a fact that there isn't a god (The agnostic part - Not knowing for a fact.), but I don't believe in one until I see proof. (The atheist part - Not believing.)

  • I pretty much gave up caring for this topic even though its a very interesting and thought provoking subject. I gave up caring because I do not believe I have the right to try and change peoples opinions when I have very little evidence on my side. Sure science has proven quite a bit but it hasn't proven there is no God, and quite frankly, probably never will, religion probably will never either unless there comes a day a diety of some sort visits earth. This subject is pointless arguing IMO.

  • the psychic says most people come there for closure or for a very personal reason....that alone right there says to me that those people are emotionally distraught in some form and will most likely believe anything that jackoff has to say. People like that slow down the progress of human kind, and I completely agree with Richard throughout this entire program. I don't think he's trying to bash peoples beliefs in anyway he's simply trying to make you think about what you believe in.

  • If there is nothing greater than us, how is there anything at all? Science is logical, being so, it proves there must be a start to everything. How could the "big bang" happen at random? At a time where nothing existed? God is not a bearded man in the sky, God is a greater unfathomable force.

  • @Luckster360 at some point there had to be nothing. If there is a god then where did he/she/it come from? just like you say with the big bang, your god was just created at random? they could not create themselves if they did not excist by your logic. At the time when nothing excisted that would include your god. So if your god could have apeared from nothing, then why couldnt the universe?

  • @Luckster360 If there is a God I think that he never had a beginning nor will have an end.

  • 20:11

  • @TheJurreB lol

  • i seriously cant understand why people go out of their way to prove religion wrong

maybe some people just want something to believe in nd find solice in their god/gods

how does believing in a deity make you 'irrational' in any way shape or form?

in no way would i ever force christianity on to a non believer but to say that im irrational for believing in it makes me think that free speech is abused way too much sometimes

but screw physics theyre stupid lol

  • @bigjosh36 Dawkins stated why he goes out of his way to prove religion wrong. He believes it to be detrimental to humanity. Also if you believed something so truly, that in your mind it was the truth, wouldn't you want to convince others of this? Something you yourself see so obviously, which others may not have even delved into or thought about. Disregarding whether Creationists or whatever is right or wrong.

  • @realllylongame its because hes literally going out his way to prove people with strong beliefs wrong but instead it should just be accepted. Instead its being scrutinised for being 'wrong'. Its just a belief it doesnt have to be fact

But i do agree with him exploiting the liers and the cheaters who take advantage of people with strong beliefs for financial gain. But my problem is that hes saying cause i believe in someone who 'doesnt exist' im an idiot basiaclly

  • @bigjosh36 Because people shouldn't be lied to, and if you're a good person, you'll try and help them. That's what he's trying to do.

  • @bigjosh36 science = reason. faith is the complete antythesis of reason and logic. It's not always a bad thing; but to answer your question, atheists struggle to convince religious people to forsake their faith because they see the world in a broader, richer way than a religious person would and wish others to understand that; atheists see religious people as not reaching their potential because of God.

physics are stupid... now that I read that, I'm starting to wonder if u were worth my time.

  • They would open with Nichiren Buddhism.

  • 15:30 win, pure win

  • If was interviewing these people i would just give up, call them a retard, give them a good slap on the face and leave.

  • Where's your god now?

  • please better quality love this just cant stand at looking at blocks

  • This is the main reason I have no faith in humanity people are so stupid holding onto illusions that are non-existent.

  • THIS

    NEEDS

    MORE

    VIEWS

  • what the hell is muzza watching?\

  • 11:30 - 12:30

Goes to show just how bullshit astrology is. The Capricorn didn't even believe her own horoscope!

  • hahahaha, the card guy, bloody hell hes stupid :P

  • "Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions destroyed.” -Friedrich Nietzsche

    Its really laughable.

  • Hutch sent me

  • like if Hutch brought u here...

  • Gods actually Chuck noris! wait no It's just hutch in a robe lol!!!!

  • holy shit, these people are fucking crazy

  • Don't flood the comment section with mindless Hutch comments. Leave the comment section for relevant discussion.

  • hutch sent me

  • God is a flying spaghetti monster.

  • Religon is a bunch of babbling bullshit, you actually think some ass munch in the sky is "magical". Example: some old jackass said the world was going to end May 21st 2011 and what do you know its not true. Waste of fucking time.

  • @Marshallmathers9 why would you even bother putting this comment? your comment has absolutely no effect on anything and just makes yourself look like an ignorant human being. i realize you dont believe in God and thats your choice but dont sit here and try to bash people of have faith in him it just makes you look bad and creates more hatred.

  • Here comes the Hutch comments!

  • Sent by Hutch

  • @cartrr96 Faggot. Go fuck yourself with a cactus cunt.

  • Hutch brought me!

  • @ymerej135 nobody cares..

  • I thought there were 117 elements to the world.

  • There is one thing you can do to improve your odds with slot machines and the like... hack into them and change the programing so that they pay out every time you play.

  • That's weird. I had a grand mother named Esther who hated cats... well not exactly hated, she was afraid of them. It had something to do with their eyes.

  • @Jonstern1983 lol wtf?

  • @TFLOfficial Which comment are you referring to?

  • @Jonstern1983 The one where you said your grand mother is afraid of cat eyes lol.

  • @TFLOfficial Oh, the fact that they take in any and all light and therefore appear to glow in the dark. Apparently, one night a cat jumped on my grand mother waking her up and she just saw two glowing orbs in the darkness. I think that scarred her for life.

  • I thought his name was Richard Hawkins, Stephen Hawkins brother, guess I was misled.

  • If anyone hasn't seen all of the Derren Brown documentaries you need to stop everything and watch them

  • I'm listening to this at work and keep drifting off! his voice is so comforting

  • If he's a scientist why bother trying to rationalize the common person. There is little sense to what a lot of people believe. It doesn't take a renown scientist to figure this out.

  • buddha once said

ignorance is the caused of all suffering

  • I'm like Hutch's doppelganger. A skinny whiteboy who plays too many video games and whos intellectual heros include Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan, and Stephen Hawking.

  • Religion is not the enemy of reason, rather an explanation of how things happen....much like that of scientific reasonings.

  • @xStachsOnDeckx lol, but it makes no sense whatsoever.

  • Hutch = Spock?

  • I love how when "spirits" reach out from the dead, they can only manage to give their initials and a vague statement about "don't worry about the money."

  • hutch, your such a philosophical person.

  • I looked over and seen The Enemies of Reason 5 of 5 and decided to throw in the towel.

  • first

  • 4:18 Great Pun concerning the "rockness" of the rock as well as it sounding as the "lochness" monster which is also superstition!

  • @KingGoomba19 i don't think that was an intentional pun though

  • @Whats1337 Oh, I know! :P

  • lol at Richard Dawkins calling out the simon guy at 15 min

  • Am I the only one who thinks Dawkins is kinda cute...?

Interesting interviews, but I'm not sure what to think about him. He always talks about the evidence he has, but never shows us anything. I've read his books and never found anything really convincing or infallible. I actually came to see him as rather ignorant, never "open" as he claimed to be... (atleast when he comes to talk about things less bullshit than this ;D)

  • @JoshuasBooks I understand where you are coming from, but I have a question. What would you accept convincing or infallible? The use of infallible is that which isn't false. Well, these interviews he pokes holes in their arguments. This doesn't make them infallible in which they claim. Science is the process of elimination where you remove that which is false and what is left is generally accepted truth becoming theory or law. This is convincing; infallible is improbable in our infant species.

  • He should have come to the US and hung out the Pentecostals.

  • gay

  • Richard Dawkins is my God.

  • thank you Hutch for bringing me here

  • But there is a rock quality in the rock! :D ....Lol 40:34

  • WHY THE ISLAMIPHOBIA AT TH END?!?!

Was a good video until I saw that.

  • @WizzleThump Because it is the most violent religion?

  • huuutch..... nawh this vid poped up in my recomended videos

  • HUTCH!

  • too long cbf dislike :)

  • i cant say i agree with this guy, but i understand what hes saying

  • Wth, Hutch is watching something worthwhile. Daniel Dennett next.

  • I enjoy a good bit of reason and i love science - in fact, i study Physics at university. It's fantastic. But I'm willing to hear what people of various religions and cultures have to say, and just accept the fact that they're different to me. It's not worth piping up over, or it just makes science look worse.

  • @TheNimbusMan You may only want to hear what other religions have to say, but the believers want you to believe what they believe and if you don't they are prepared to make you. The Muslim faith (and the Koran) is dedicated to world domination. Non-believers must convert or die. Christians in the States want to force their beliefs into your schools and government. And some cultures have disgusting traditions like genital mutilation. It is not a perfect world of love and understanding.

  • those spiritual reading people that took the photo are always very general...

  • "sth in your life changing" and "somebody really really close to you" what the fucking dick, that can be said about any human being

  • Why doesn't this video have more views?

  • @Tamerleen It's too long. Just like my penis.

  • A good documentary, up to the point he started on 'Conspiracy Theories' vaccines etc. What do crackpot psychics have to do with medical 'accidents' and big pharma profiteering? It just makes me wonder. Why are these being lumped together? It reminds me of propaganda. Sure, there are crackpots out there, but a lot of media tells lies to the public, as does big pharma, big tobacco, asbestos, polio vaccines, thalidomide, the list goes on. These things are real, public is right to be wary.

  • Richard Dawkins for world president!

  • guy @ 10:00 is such a fucking idiot... Richard Dawkins is the man.

  • So very true. What a unique documantary

  • Well, this video gives me at least some small comfort. I thought that we Americans had pretty much cornered the market on this type of idiocy, though I guess it's not exactly a good thing that it's so prevalent in the UK as well.

  • @dgumbrecht We're all still humans and all on the same planet, I'd rather the "idiocy" you speak of be confined to one country, and one country only, whether it'd be the US or the UK, however, it doesn't give me comfort at all knowing that these "Enemies of reason" are so widespread among our communities and day to day lives!

  • Just some food for thought, but less us assume hypothetically that everything we know about science is COMPLETELY wrong and misinterpreted, now Mr. Dawkins, would you be so quick to agree on it or would you still believe in what you have for the past 40 years? I agree 100% with you and what you're doing but I also believe that you can't change the mind of people so easily, and you above everyone else should know this! This is referring to the dowsing portion of the video!

  • @dgumbrecht Its not country spesific, the human race is stupid, its a wonder we didnt kill ourself when we first discovered fire :P

Or killed ourself when we discovered the wheel :P

  • @Hugebull

Hehe, well put. It reminds me of a line in Richard's latest book where he talks about feeling "pathetically consoled" by the fact that about 19% of British respondents to a Eurobarometer poll didn't know that it takes the Earth a year to orbit the Sun.

His "pathetic consolation" stems from the fact that the poll seems to indicate a general ignorance of science rather than a specific ignorance of biology. An unsurprisingly more eloquent take on what I meant to convey.

    Cheers!

  • @dgumbrecht Yeah, don't be fooled. The whole world is infested with these cretins. As much as people beat the drum about how obnoxiously religious America is, and it is, believe me, the rest of the world is actually comparatively worse in many cases. Just take a look at that dark age time-warp we call the Middle-East.
