These plays happen everyday in hockey but the league has it out for the flyers after the first two incidents. Let's let the referees and the other team's enforcers handle this stuff. Colin Campbell was right with the Downie and especially the Boulerice suspensions, but it's time to let the players play hockey. Thats why fighting is allowed. Don't go suspending every flyer for every illegal hit. It's part of the game.

The NHL doesn't want to take out clean, skates on the ice, elbows down hits... That wasn't a clean hit hence the tiny suspension. Personally I think there should be set suspensions. If you leave your feet and elbow a guy in the head 10 games injury or not... There is no reason to play cheap... The NHL needs to get strict on this crap...

at 4 seconds, you can see cote leave his feet to deliver the hit, which is clearly targeted for the head. at 8 seconds, you can see cote follow through with the elbow designed to smash niskanen's head into the glass. just because niskanen wasn't injured doesn't make the hit legal. the flyers keep replacing one goon with another.

These plays happen everyday in hockey but the league has it out for the flyers after the first two incidents. Let's let the referees and the other team's enforcers handle this stuff. Colin Campbell was right with the Downie and especially the Boulerice suspensions, but it's time to let the players play hockey. Thats why fighting is allowed. Don't go suspending every flyer for every illegal hit. It's part of the game.

The NHL doesn't want to take out clean, skates on the ice, elbows down hits... That wasn't a clean hit hence the tiny suspension. Personally I think there should be set suspensions. If you leave your feet and elbow a guy in the head 10 games injury or not... There is no reason to play cheap... The NHL needs to get strict on this crap...

at 4 seconds, you can see cote leave his feet to deliver the hit, which is clearly targeted for the head. at 8 seconds, you can see cote follow through with the elbow designed to smash niskanen's head into the glass. just because niskanen wasn't injured doesn't make the hit legal. the flyers keep replacing one goon with another.

honestly, every team has a few hits like these and the only reason this one got a game misconduct and a 3 game suspension is because he plays on the flyers. Its Bullshit, after the first 2 suspensions...which were deserved, the flyers have been targeted and enforced to the tee, where other teams can get away with stuff. I love how this hit didn't even knock the player over, hurt him or even break 2 of the 5 nhl rules reguareding hits, yet he gets 3 games.

while you are right about being 4th in the conference, you also have to figure that they have played less games then the teams ahead of them, like the rangers, 2 points behind, 2 less games played, the hurricans, 3 points behind, 3 less games played, and they have beat the hurricans ass the last 2 times they have played, flyers r top 2 in the conference

you all should shut up and act like the flyers plan all of this, besides the Boulerice incident they have all been flukes. The Downie hit was a good agressive play, The Jones this was a terrible accident which everyone agreed is not something Jones does, the Hartnell thing was the other guys fault for dropping to his knees and maybe his elbow was up yes, he was finishing his check.

If he did leave his feet, which i think is inconclusive, that warants boarding, the video is in SLOW-MOTION so it was not an eternity after the puck was released, no harm there in my opinion. Elbow? Definatly!, this pley should have been 5min for boarding/charging/elbowing no more no less. Ya his elbow was high but i dont think there was intent to injure. PS I HATE THE FLYERS! so dont come at my like im sympathizing with them.

look at the quality of player who makes these stupid hits. they're only there to fight and intimidate the talented players. it's pretty much their job to make these brutal hits. the league and the individual teams need to wake up and take this great game out of the gutters, by finally removing fighting from the game.

3 games, and i think its a good call. The NHL is cracking down on head shots. Left his feet, late hit plus an elbow to the head. I love hitting, i like a good bone rattling shot but the dirtyness and lack of respect around the nhl is appaling. I think the next time a flyer gets suspended and we all know there will be one, john stevens and holmgren should fined. Set a precedent and protect the players
