Or if you want to extract to get it pure it just put it in water - because KNO3 dissolves in water... and boil the water off.. There are better sources of potassium nitrate than stump remover. There are quite a few places that sell pure potassium nitrate. If you are reasonably intelligent you should be able to figure out where to buy it. If you can't figure it out, then you probably aren't smart enough to use Potassium Nitrate responsibly.

It does not take high purity for something like a smoke bomb, If your doing a fast reaction such as blackpowders thats diffrent, but for a slow burn like a smoke bomb purity is not such a issue. As for stump remover its almost close to lab grade purity. besides purifiying potassium nitrate is vary easy just make a super saturated solution of it and start crystalization but filter and collect the crystals befor more than 80% of the orginal KNO3 has recrystalized

Well sorta, You can convert the ammonium nitrate to potassium nitrate. There are a number of methods for doing this one is reacting with potassium hydroxide under heat. When when the potassium picks up the nitrate ion and free's the ammonia, under heat the ammonia revert to a gas state and leaves the solution, The hydroxide will revert to water, leaveing you with a solution of potassium nitrate.

If you mix the Ammonium Nitrate, filter it, mix it with backing soda and boil it, then let it evaporate, you can get Sodium Nitrate, which is a fine substitute for Potassium Nitrate(This process releases toxic vapors, this should NOT be done inside.).

Walmart has a gunpowder(not blackpowder) called pyrodex but I've never tried it

Look up how to make ANFO. Much better than anything you can make with potassium nitrate, but you need a secondary/primary explosive to set it off.

If you want an even bigger bang go with Ammonal, thats my prefference, 90/10 Ammonium nitrate/dark aluminum powder (same kind of aluminum that is found in flash powder)

so yea, you have to make it yourself but lets say 1 kilo of AN cost 1 euro, 1 kilo of aluminum cost 22 euro.

900g an + 100g al = 3,10 euro

That shit can blow up a tree. Detonation is a bit tricky though.

Throw some diesel in a bag or bucket of ammonium nitrate and mix it till its nice and grotesque.

for detonation just put a 10g AP or HMTD booster in the middle of the anfo, stuff it down in the mixture and light it.

It's really that easy but i would seriously recommend you don't play with high explosives till you are experienced with explosives in general.

I have a friend that lost a leg to RDX, so watch out when making this stuff.

The only danger with most of the ammonium nitrate based explosives is when you put the primary detonation charge in.

AP is unbelievably sensitive and HMTD is 2 times less sensitive, but can still be detonated by throwing it on the ground or hitting it with a hammer.

So please do research before doing anything with explosives.
