Agreed, This Copyright Gestapo crap has gone much too far.
Nice montage; just imagine it with the sound...
Hard to say what my favorite Herrmann is. NxNW is definitely a top contender; Vertigo is also spectacular, also "Ghost & Mrs. Muir".
But let's not forget the brilliant original Main & End Titles for the Twilight Zone - that shimmering sound with the unresolved chord at the beginning drawing one into the episode, with the finality of the resolved chord at the end.
What a shame! Here is a tribute to one of the greatest composers of all time, let alone Hollywood, and we can't hear it! I appreciate your effort anyway. Of all the tributes, the lack of soundtrack here hurt the most. I have a dozen Herrmann albums.
Ok, a lot of these are not in my time peorid so i'll go with it. North by northwest was very good! Journey to the center of the earth had like a Vampire theme to it! LOL! The day the earth stood still was weird. Psycho was creepy but now i know where they get that weird theme from when somehting bad goes wrong on thoes weird comericals. Anna and the king of siam was like the King and I. And Correction All of these are not in my Time peorid. LOL!
going back to some of the movies i liked when i was younger, i realized that a good portion of the reason i liked it was for the soundtrack. i don't think i know of any other composer who could turn a good movie into an amazing one.
Years ago, Aerosmith would open up with the Psycho theme leading into Back in the Saddle. Tyler would scream,"I'm Baaaack!" with the white lights on his face, and for a moment he looked like Tony Perkins with long hair. Freaky.
And, don't forget all the incredible work he did in radio, first with Orson Welles, then his long association with CBS -- including his backgrounds for "On a Note of Triumph."
sorry I thought u were commenting about the compliation, i did not see that you were responding to a comment. (inserting foot in mouth!) however,I do think that myserious Island is a Masterpiece of invention, sound, and orchestration. :o)
Herrmann may have gotten short shrift in the Oscar department as far as nominations go, but he did receive double noms in 1976 after his passing for TAXI DRIVER and OBSESSION. I guess we'll have to wait for Bennie's G.H. Vol. II for OBSESSION. That is one of the two or three film scores that actually roll down the tears.
If you look back, many great directors have never won an oscar. Scorsese has only won one recently, but was never awarded for Taxi Driver but perhaps even more importantly "Raging Bull".
Kubrick is also one of the few greatest directors of all time, and one who has never won an oscar. Tragedy really.
Bravo, Benydebney...BRAVO!!! Well edited and a fitting tribute, to the silver screen's greatest composer. It's hard to believe that Bernard Herrmann never won an Oscar, but then again, Oscar forgot the greatest of Hitchcock, too, but time hasn't. May God continue to embrace the spirits of both Bernard Herrmann and Alfred Hitchcock, with His love.
Actually, Herrmann did win an Oscar for his score for "The Devil and Daniel Webster." Good score, but it sure didn't deserve the Oscar as much as Vertigo!
ooh thank u, i'm doing a research project on Alfred Hitchcock for my media class, and I was looking for music from some of his movies, and this is perfect! :D Thanks!
Fantastic. Great selection. I've never heard 'Hangover square' before, so thanks. Check out my Herrmann (lesser known) greatest hits when you get the chance.

I'm pretty sure the music starting at 1:50 is not from "Citizen Kane".

But it is,of course it is.I took it from the Varese Sarabande Album.

What scene is it used in?
weikko79 3 years ago
I think the score for "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (beginning at 1:00) is his masterpiece.

Incidentally, it was Herrmann's personal favorite as well.
