Just in case the heading has confused anyone, this is the original recording by the Impressions. Curtis Mayfield was the composer and lead singer of the trio which included Sam Gooden and Fred Cash.
When this was played in the Dance Halls, it was magic. Mr. Mayfield made the teenage guys grab the special girl gently and dance with her like she was a princess even if she wasn't his girl. Usually though, they picked a special girl for this dance. Curtis Mayfield and the Impression could not and never did anything wrong musically. They were decent guys too. Love this with all my heart and even better, they were Chicago guys. Thanks for the upload. :D
Believe it or not, there actually was a time when all of our R&B singers weren't in their late teens or early twenties. Check out the age on most of these dudes rolling old school, and understand that they got better the longer they were in the game...
@Oldskoolibra Many soul legends very young with first success. Curtis was 16 when "For Your Precious Love" hit and by the time he was 21 he had written and recorded several hits for The Impressions and other artist. He was 22 when this charted. Gladys Knight 17 with her first hit, Wilson Pickett 19, Supremes were 19 & 20, Ronald Isley 18 when "Shout" hit, Stevie Wonder, Dee Dee Sharp & Barbara Mason teenage stars also, list goes on and on. It was the quality and longevity of the artist.
@Man6858 We still do sis. In all of or ignorance and foolishness you still put up with us. If we as black men really knew who we are and who you are, we would make a change over night and honor and respect you as it should be. You are the Mother of civilization. Much love from a blackman who is in the process learning who you really are.
Im SO Proud is actually the IMPRESSIONS song but Curtis Mayfield may have done a remake... I am certain of this because my grandfather is an IMPRESSION
still loving you and your music. Thanks for the great gift. Sorry about your accident. contact me anytime from above. This is my favorite song. So beautiful. Thinking of you all the time.
Is a very truly song for a couple in love. Personally is a jewel of song. Today I always expecting for the new kids in the block respond with something that make sense. And, every 5 years they make some good.
that picture of rihanna and chris during the part where curtis sings "if you were ever untrue" was too wrong. does anyone know the song that plays at the beginning?
Curtis lived in Sandy Springs (ATL) GA. I worked at the KFC in that area and he use to come there every so often this was the early 80s. He use to drive up in a blue Rolls Royce. He would always get the 21 piece barrel. I even got his autograph on a KFC napkin. he was a real down to earth brother. The song "Think" off the superfly album is still my favorite Curtis tune. Beyonce sampled this song. RIP Curtis
This is true music, soul music. When things are done from within, artistically, with no ulterior motives (such as sales, and fame) you get this king of product. That's what lacks from mainstream garbage we get nowadays, so its great to sit and listen to this once in a while.
what a beautiful song...my god! yes i realize that the evolution of music has derived from this...i grew up listening to it so i have a great appreciation for it..but in all truthfulness the music that has come out nowadays doesnt have the heart as it does during this time frame...so i do like to return to an era that wasnt my own...
love that song, but i would rather see Curtis instead of the video that was done. Curtis was great would be nice for some of the younger people to see the real artist.
I love this song ever since I heard it in the movie A Bronx Tale. I would sing this for my girl if she was honestly in love with me. Just to make it special I would sing it to her on her birthday.
i clicced on this song lookin for drake lol

stphtn12 too many of todays artists are known for their sexuality and
visual appeal rather than for their music. spngs like this you
can sing along to. this is the kind of music that will last long
after an artists sex appeal and media favorite fame disappears.
by the way thanks for this post by a great artist!

I wonder if young people today realize how much their music rests on great composers like Curtis Mayfield? Everything is evolutionary.

I think so, thats why so many sample from past artists. Even dance move that Beyonce or MJ do/did are from bye-gone eras.
