  • Good job!

  • Is that supposed to be an organ ?? it sounds more like a box of screws and nuts being dropped on to the floor.

Why this attempt at racing at a break neck speed ?

This chorale should sound -not all fast, but very deliberate and majestic, letting the listener hear and feel the heavy clanging of the iron fetters represented in the pedal.

  • @bihonning it's a Joseph Whiteford Aeolian-Skinner. Obviously the mic is not very good quality. The organ sounds great in person....just like a real G. Donald Harrison organ.

This video is from 3 years ago so I can't stand listening to this just as much as you can't. Please check out my newer videos....love to have some comments.

  • @riverscuomo06 yeah fuck that guy, great performance.

  • @bihonning I think your being a little too critical. "it sounds more like a box of screws and nuts being dropped on the floor". ?? If you know anything about the way recording sound and projecting it onto a computer works, you would know that not every video camera has high quality sound and that in fact, most have low quality sound. As for the speed, listen to Koopman's version of this piece and tell me if you still think this is too fast.

  • Dear Bihonning: Thank you for dispelling the notion that most organists are sarcastic, elitist, bitchy, nitpicking prigs. While this particular pipe organ may not suit *your* personal taste, it doesn't mean that others don't find it pleasant. As for me, I would like to offer a few words of encouragement to this young organist and future fellow colleague, so "kudos!" to "riverscuomo06." As for bihonning: keep your your caustic and esoteric critiques to yourself.

  • @bihonning If you think this is too fast you're a nutjob!

  • nice

  • Beautiful thanks for sharing - Lance †

  • looking on this from almost a year and a half ago, i realize i really sucked back then hahaha.

  • no, you didn't

  • well, maybe didn't suck, but i can notice a big improvement.

  • you just needed a better mic.

  • That's what's great about learning the organ ;)

  • Great Job- just wish it was on the Old West Fisk

  • A fast tempo and joyful feel is appropriate for this piece - it's actually an Easter Hymn: Christ lay in Death's strong bands, for our offenses given; but now at God's right hand he stands, and gives us life from Heaven. Wherefore let us joyful be, and sing to God right thankfully loud songs of Alelulia! Alelulia! So Transgirl, I think it would be very appropriate for a funeral - but I hope that's a long time away for both of us. Riverscuomo, great job! And Christ Lay in the Toads Bed LOL!

  • i actually played it at our church's good friday service ;-)

  • The first time I ever played it was for a Good Friday service too! Nothing wrong with that either.

I played a simple Zachau version of this chorale tune yesterday morning (2nd Sunday after Easter). I didn't have time to prepare the Bach on very short notice - I'm a substitute organist. The Zachau is in 6/8 with 8th notes (triplets) under the melody; I played it with a lilting feel and 8 and 2 flutes; it was fun to play and I think it came off nicely.

  • @thisbe88: No man don´t make jokes like that ! The Saviour of mankind is too kind for that !

  • I absolutely love this song. Your rendition is great. I had a recording of it where it was played with a little differently. Its hard to explain but it's like the organist was quite upset. Understanding the literal translation of the title, I can only imagine what he was thinking. I forget who it was though. I like your playing just as well. I wished I could hear you in person. As morbid as this may sound, I want this song played at my funeral. Right before the minute of reflection.

  • I like your tempo and articulation but I don't hear the tune as clearly as I'd expect - the pedal line is standing out more to me. Maybe it's just the recording...

  • yeh, i used my digital camera because it's all i had at the time. it also could be just where i placed the camera. at park street, the organ is split into 3 sections. basically the majority of the organ is split between the front 2 corners of the room, and the antiphonal is in the back. it's pretty sweet, i suggest you come check it out...

  • I might do that...I grew up in Cambridge and have been thinking about taking a trip out there in the summer. I play an odd and frustrating instrument - 2 manuals and 14 ranks but no 8' principal.

  • yeh, that does sound frusterating. well, let me know when you're coming...i sub for the organist there sometimes over the summer so i could definetly let you play it if you're in the area when i'm around!

  • Love this chorale, and used to play it frequently. Used to call it "Christ lay in the toad's bed."

  • lol

  • Well done. The tempo is very good. Congratulations.

  • Faster tempo than I'm used to for this piece, but really lovely. I spent 3 years in Cambridge and miss Boston.

  • Hey! That was my first Orgelbüchlein chorale! Thanks for posting!

  • thanks guys

  • Very nice. I like the piece. Thank you for posting!

  • oh, Hello to Boston. Check my site life4music1982 on youtube. Soon I will post videos from me playing in

our beatiful Neustaedter Kirche in Erlangen, it is not so great music with pedal and so, but, check it out next days (-: Maximilian.
