Man that's so wrong... You're gonna get that girls hair ripped out of her cranium.. Gain control of the wrist first, then attempt to gain momentum of your opponents arm... LOL
I'm doubtful of the wisdom of teaching kids self defense in this fashion.
OK, sure, it might be fun, but I'd be worried that they're giving the kid the wrong impression (or marketing their club in an irresponsible fashion).
The simple fact is that a 10 or 12 year old would be trivial for almost any healthy adult to handle. The pure size and strength difference mean that they have virtually no chance, even if they have been training from infancy.
@ManicParroT@ManicParroT Hi, first off I'm sure in the description of this video it does say that it's 'a very rough cut of some self defence' not 'this is how to teach self defence to kids'? Judo, as with just about all martial arts, doesn't just teach techniques, it also gives the student self confidence and discipline that allows them to judge a situation and lets them decide weather they are going to be able to defend themselves or if they are going to have to get out of there.
@ManicParroT The Point of most martial arts is to teach how to use your attackers size and strength against them.
As for a 12 year old being nothing to a healthy adult, I'd love to see you go up against some commited 12 year old Judo, Tae Kwon-do, Karate, Kick boxing, Kung-fu, or any other martial artists, and see if you change your mind.
Anyway, thanks very much for watching the video and leaving your comments, they are always welcome, both positive and negative. :D
@stikkz213 If a 12 year old went for tomoe nage on an adult aggressor he''d get picked up and thrown into a suitable object. Same goes for a crescent kick or a muay thai flying knee.
The disparities - reach, weight, strength - are massive.
The reason I'm concerned about this specific video is that it depicts a child using self defense techniques against an adult (and apparently succeeding), when that's extremely unlikely.
Come to my wrestling club and bring your "healthy untrained adult" friend and see if he doesn't get manhandled by one of out 12 year old female wrestlers.

@ManicParroT lol ya no doubt. like when he has her by the hair, lol he just gives her a shot in the face, and bam, theres your ez abduction. Or else mayby she some how super crazily pulls off the move, but then when she tries to run away, she trips and falls and starts crying, so the guy gets up, picks her up and bam, ez child abduction..........
@simpson4563 Judo si an excellent martial art for self defence. I'm not trying to say that Judo is the best martial art, as I don't believe that there is one definative martial art, but from personal expierence Judo has always done good with me. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment. :D
and if they land on concrete it fucking hurts, it hurts even if you know how to fall properly, so people you use judo on dont know how to land properly, and may even break something, but you should only use judo if you really need it, thats why you need a liscence, for insurance should you get hurt doing techniques and to prove to ppl you can seriously hurt them if they attack you, say u hurt someone in self defence you can say you showed your liscence first but they still continued.
Im a karateka but Judo is a very effective martial art. It gets a bad rap due to the focus of sports on many schools, but people dont realize that a common thug doesnt know how to fall properly and theres no matts on the streets, those put together means one throw can finish a fight in a second.
I agree, judo would be more effective than TKD and sport karate ( though not more traditional styles which emphasise self defence) as a lot of attacks involved being grabbed from behind. You throw some mugger on the ground and he won't get up again. However, one of the best for self defence is hapkido, but no schools for 110 miles.
@Yourmomishre yeah i'm 120% with u on this one...i'm really interested in grappling..i plan on taking on judo and BJJ...but i really wish the judo dojo is teaching judo as a martial art..not as a sport....but i did enough research to know that judo really shines in it's katas!
yea tell her i said shes great! and thank you for posting this video, im looking to start Judo soon, because it has many benefits, self defence, its good for your health, lots of cardio and musclular work and it looks fun, i bet a black belt Judoka feels like a god when he walks down the street knowing that he can if he needed to, just throw someone like a rag doll and even finish the fight on the ground with an armlock or a chokehold. Brilliant
Exellent video...the little kid was awsome :D..i have a deep respect for judo..the techniques are awsome..and very useful when u want to defend ur self.. but i would like to know..is it possible to use it against more than one person?
ive seen ppl throw others like they weren't even there in 2 seconds there on the floor, of course the more experienced and stronger you are, the more effective judo is, you need strength to throw people fast, and doing judo for a number of years will give you that upper strength, i like sweeps myself, sweep the leg, move quickly onto the next person throw them, then finish the others off, i find boxing goes nicely with judo, throw a few punches and then suprise them with a throw or a leg sweep
sureeee ...that is nice! but also ..an experienced person should always have the spirit not to get into fights..and keep the Judo as a last resort..or in case of direct danger..i like the idea of boxing mixed with judo..since there is a lack of it in Judo...
@NaffiFIRE yes but sometimes others want to fight you and try to attack you and you have to use it to defend yourself, personally im a bit cocky around others since i know i could probably throw them and knock them out or choke them, do an armbar on them, basically i can own anyone if i want too, i lift weights too so im quite big and strong which helps, judo gives confidence and you need tht in this life or you get no where.
Yes BUT OFCOURSE!..this depends on ur assesment of the situation..if u see that there will be no way but fighting THEN GO GET'EM! the best defense is the best attack ! ..always have the first strike
Brilliant!!! Finally, I see a vid showing that Judo is effective in self defence.. The amount of people that refuse to believe it is, and tell me to take up Wing Chun or something. When will they listen, I dont like punching or kicking people, it's not in my nature, I'd rather put them down in one throw, and if needs be, break their arm so they can't attack me again... :D
you could, but you would have to move the whole technique up, so that you were doing the scissor throw (kani-basami) more around the upper torso/neck.
oh alright i have never done judo but think it would be the ultimat tool to have in an mma fight that and muay thai i think would pair up nicely so i like to look at it from more of a what can it set me up for than it just being a take down
we do focus a lot on the sports side of judo because the judoka in the club love to compete, but we do train in some of the more traditional side of things when we can, teaching and learning the different kata's.
Thanks again for the comments, they're always appreciated. :)
I had to use self defense i was in middle school at that time i got jumped by two high schoolers that were being fags lets just say they didn't mess with again after that day.
to be honest we don't teach much self defence in the club right now, but when you learn judo, as with many martial arts, you do become better prepared to defend you self in real situations. we teach a variety of ages, from 5 and up, and if people do want to learn self defence techniques we will certainly be willing to teach them.
hey pax512, you're right, kani basami is banned in tournaments and competitions, but it is still a recognised judo technique which is also used in many other martial arts.
Lool r u stupid Those tecnicks arent even for black belts its for like blue maybe brown and then i just said red belt tecnics arena dangerous dont put in judo movies if u dont know anything about it and dont say that i dont cuz iv been in a judo club for 4 years
hey again, self defence TECHNIQUES are not measured by which belt you hold, they are for self defence! a self defence TECHNIQUE can be taught to ANYONE!!! the judo videos I've made and put on youtube are for entertainment, not instruction.....
...... As for having been in a judo club for 4 years, well done, i myself have been doing judo for 14 to 15 years, as well as a lot of other martial arts, and I am still learning, you obviously haven't learned very much about martial arts, judo or any other, if you think that everything you do in the martial arts world has to be measured by the belt that you wear?!
.......i know a lot of non-judo guys and girls that come along to my club once in a while to practice TECHNIQUES that their martial art doesn't teach them, and a lot of them would easily hold their own in a competition, but not one of them has higher than a white belt in judo!
Keep practicing judo, you have a long way to go. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments, they're always welcome, good and bad. :)
Well done. This is the kind of spirit that the martial arts community - or at least that fragment of it online and posting on youtube - needs more of. Thank you for a peaceful and sensible discussion, stikkz.
Well, as it says at the top, this is a very rough cut of some self defence. Attacks were aimed behind/to the side so that the timing could be worked on and nobody would get hurt. but thanks for the comments, as usual I really apreciate both positive and negative comments as it helps me to see what i'm doing right and wrong. :)
Wantti - No offence, if you know anything about true JKD, you'd know that it's not a style (and to think it was would be totally against why JKD was designed by Jun Fan).
