@leaningright252 lol cliffs of dover was originally recorded on an ES-335, it just goes to show you can play any type of music on any type of instrument
Who is the Bass player on this one? I love the sound of his bass, the busy bass lines without interfering or taking the limelight out of EJ. Beautiful..
@jeremiahjay777 Chris Maresh is the bassist. We saw these guys a couple of weeks ago in Modesto CA. Awesome. Chris does stuff on the bass I've never seen or heard, so these two make a great fit. Both incredible.
@GtrDudeL I think Bonamassa copied EJ's sound.....not the other way around. They're still both great players IMO....and humble too, met Joe at an amp convention which happened down the street from my house.
@rodrigoawilasco I know he has signature DiMarzio humbuckers that he asked for them to make sound like Gretsch filtertrons but they came out like that with some single coil aspects to them. He was blown away. I'm assuming these are what he is using in this guitar.
@rodrigoawilasco Well, that's the idea. He didn't like what ever humbuckers he had. The DiMarzio page says he put them into his '59 Replica Les Paul (for some reason!). I think that he has them in this SG as well. Most guitars come with factory pickups, but that's what DiMarzio is for: REPLACEMENT pickups.
@GuillermoSmyser Which means he uses a pickup that is great for clean sound, because is not as powerful as a humbucker, and has an awesome dirty tone, because it's a little more powerful than a single coil. It's the best of both worlds!
@rodrigoawilasco I don't understand what you are saying. Yes, his DiMarzio humbucker is not as powerful as many "normal" humbuckers (including the normal Gibson humbuckers). So his Strats and his Gibsons get great cleans and great dirty tones.
As much as I like Eric on a Strat I like him playing his SG a lot more. SG's just have a more body. Don't get me wrong, I love strats too and I do own both an SG and a strat.... just saying...
He really sounds unlike other guitarists, the fuzzface really comes into it's own with the SG though, you can hear the old vintage overdrive! Respect Sir!
seems like an awesome performance but I just can't stand the fact that the video is slightly desynchronized of the audio, it makes me feel so uncomfortable!
I love when a genius gets behind the wheel. I am a guitar player myself, but I am not where I want to be. But when God gives us a talent understand that it can be taken away due to drugs and alcohol I thought I had lost mine, but thru much redemption they've come back! So keep it up!
The bass player is good too. He's really jamming here, not just playing the same couple of notes over and over, which is unfortuneately is what a lot of bass "players" do.
@dreekd80 I don't know... it sounds a bit too busy from me. He's doing too much, and it clashes with the guitarist. If he stuck to the basic bass line at all, and tastefully threw in a few well-timed licks, it'd be much better.
@iplayguitar4life I have the Epiphone g400 worn cherry. It kinda looks like it but it aint the same, of course! It's a nice guitar tho'. I used to have a 1968 Gibson SG Custom. It had 3 humbuckers on it with gold hardware, the gold bridge piece like this one... It was a one of a kind for sure...
@iplayguitar4life the Epi was $250, I got it on eBay and it included a nice Epi hardshell case and shipping. It was a really good deal - I love the way it plays. It's a quality guitar.
The old Gibson SG wa $1000. I bought it in 1994 and had to sell it in 1997, which was a real heartbreaker.
@dreekd80 ha- I have an epi sg junior in (don't know what kind of cherry they call it) but it is a lefty, which is what I play and it came to me free. Brand new. No bells, no whistles, who cares? Free is hard to beat!
the speed king and this is fucking hard to play on guitar eric plays in some weird modes and i have no idea how he gets that sound because it sounds like the guitars notes are moved up an octave but im not sure all i know is the mans a genius and should be on mtv everyday because id like to see a pop star try to do this
Yes, the greats make mistakes too. For some reason I think he's using a heavier gauge string than he normally does. And that would certainly affect his style of playing. He may be borrowing a guitar from somebody. It sort of looks as if they're going for a '60's theme or something. Maybe the SG added to the look.
I've never seen such a good beginning instrumental ruined by such a horrible drummer that actually thinks his incessant cymbal mashing adds ANYTHING to EJ's guitar playing.
@ClearViewWater Absolutely. Eric is a creator in every sense, nothing passes his will unobserved. Sounds like a lovely stream gurgling in the background of his graceful mastery.
@Folcation I know it's hard to hear it exactly considering you drown it out because he only stops the cymbal fill for about...half a second. But if you listen closely, you'll realize the drummer is an idiot. While I agree some of the fills are nice, it's not needed for 30-50 seconds straight. It adds nothing and takes away from the piece itself.
@SocratesJohnson86 I definitely agree that the constant cymbals are really obnoxious... A light crash here or there would have been one thing, but "CHSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" The WHOLE freaking time is REALLY annoying...
@SocratesJohnson86 Seems if you hear "incessant cymbal mashing", you're only getting the left channel...check your balance! That or you have treble set to11! lol That sounded great to me
fabulous player fabulous song , it sounds like eric johnson to me, the sounds so processed it could be a synth, and still sound the same, remember leos only stipulation was he didnt pay anymore than a dollar for a strat blank,, nothing to do with so called tone woods, best tone i have ever heard was made from an old fireplace, peter green used a telecaster for albertros , but you would have thought it was a les paul, thats the mark of a great guitar player, thats where the tone comes from,,,,

@talpajam It's a '63 or'64 SG Standard. I have one that looks exactly it. Right down to the broken tip on the pick guard & the missing whammy bar.
