Obama has spent billions tax money on his personal vacations putting this country into debt. Conspiracy with obama caused the damn oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico so he can remove bp give it to the venezuelan who helped fund his campaign he has to pay back. Conspiracy that he killed a man killed who was in charged with birth Certificate because he wasn't born in USA. Also he took away people freedom by forcing people to take obamacare if not they are fined. Increasing gas and pocketing the money
@petezilla2k "Billions of tax money on personal vacations" huh? You're one of the few idiot birthers that still admit they believe in that nonsense. If you’re dumb enough to believe Obama wasn't born in Hawaii, it would be a total waste of time trying to educate you. It's no wonder you think Nixon was a great man. He's some advice, stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and reading tin foil hat websites. It’s already rotted your puny brain, but maybe it’s not too late to stop the damage.
@steagle9000 You are an idiot it is known fact that can't be argued that Obama spend billion dollars of tax payers money. To trip to India alone cost 2 billion dollars. This proves you are a brain dead idiot. And for you're information I never said Nixon is a great man I only said he is better than obama. And I get my info from many sources. I suggest you stop listen to liberal media it makes you look bad. You never rebuttal anything on the statement I gave. Owning you wasn't difficult.
@petezilla2k Let me do my civic duty and try to educate an inbred retard like petezill2k. Hey dumbass, only an idiot would believe an internet urban legend. Then again, you are an admitted birther. @rocksabre11 As a moderate to liberal Democrat, I wouldn't consider your fascination with Nixon to be "strange". Many of Nixon's defenders today are quite interestingly, Democrats. Nixon's administration was an enigma. While running as a hard core conservative, many liberal programs began under his administration. Nixon actually seemed to prefer working with conservative Democrats and "Dixiecrats" to working with Republicans. Regardless of one's political beliefs, Nixon was a fascinating person.
Watergate was just a cover up of something else going on, the CIA just wanted to deviate people's attention from what was really happening; they got it. Nixon was just a scapegoat and he had to keep it to himself or else he would be silenced just like they did with Kennedy. Yes ladies and gentlemen our government, the senate and the pentagon are run by "OTHERS"
this man was horrible responsible for sending soldier to vietnam and was responsible for the losses of thousands of us troops and responsible for all the turmoil and political turmoil in america
@Flameyben Not quite. Vietnam was something he inherited - he started the pullout of troops, and eventually ended US involvement. He was a flawed genius, but blaming him for everything isn't accurate
@MsTommyknocker -I know so many far left liberals that ALWAYS attach Vietnam to Nixon. When I tell these people that Nixon did not start Vietnam, that he ended it, they do not even bother to look up the facts, they simply dismiss it as if I was making it up. I find that it is quite common place for the far left to just hate blindly not giving any attention at all to FACTS, just thier twisted idea's about the way things are. I know far right conservatives who do the same thing. Shame...
Dear people: I am glad people are writing positively about President Nixon. He faced so many battles and won them all except the one that was unwinnable, no matter if he was or not involved. God Bless President Nixon ! I sell Japanese made guitars and if you need one email me.
Richard Nixon had more positive attributes as a president than most of the rest. He was 'high brow' intelligent, diplomatic, had a superb baratone voice which made his speeches authoratitive and cultured. He was, above all, a human being and acknowledged that in his struggles with the Watergate 'storm in a tea cup.' Next to him, most presidents have looked distinctly average. His library is the 5th most visited of all presidents - and it gets no public funding, unlike all the others!
Very good points.. and I find in that deep voice there was a resonance that is really unmatched in modern times (esp when it shaked a bit with 'sincerity').
If you haven't, definitely check out his last intereview with Larry King. One of the most remarkable interview I have ever seen.
I think Nixon was a flawed, brilliant, insecure, driven, (did I say brilliant?) structured, paranoid, power hungry, money hungry, success hungry, and mostly, a man who wanted validation from his peers and never got it, which brought out the worst in him.
If he pursued law and stayed away from politics, he would have been an attorney rock star. So why did he go into politics? Maybe he was vien also. WHO KNOWS WHO RICHARD NIXON WAS!!!
@corebare: I agree with everything you said except for you characterizing Nixon as "money hungry".
In comparison to many people in Washington, from Capitol Hill to The White House, Nixon was not a wealthy man before he took office, and he was struggling financially when he left office.
Overall, it was a good flick; but Nixon was a man who was all but impossible to imitate. Nixon's facial features were extremely difficult to replicate, and his personality was too intense. Sir Anthony Hopkins came about as close as could be done.
Frank Langella appeared as an actor who could play a fictional President, but he did not impress me as one who cold replicate Richard Nixon.
There is one question that, to my knowledge, Nixon was never been asked; it's a questiion that I've pondered many times.
"Mr. President, during the last 48hrs. of your presidency, as you were preparing to deliver your resignation speech, after you delivered it, and as you boarded your helicopter, or Air Force One for the last time, was there some part of you that was glad that it was finally over??"
Where are the original COMPLETE versions of this interview...I used to have one as a favorite and it was deleted. Nixon is not the monochromatic character so unworthy of any kind consideration that these little, carefully-selected clips indicate. In many ways, Nixon was, with all his foul play, a noble man and a better president than our contemporaries. Certainly more intelligent. I'd take Nixon today over 4 Obamas and 4 Bushes and 4 Clintons.
Nixon was an enigma. Even in the "Frost/Nixon" book, Frost had to admit that Nixon's presidency was a very sucessful one and if not for his extremely poor judgement in this episode, he probably would have gone down as one of our best presidents. I myself was very proud, as an American, watching W. Clinton entertain the whole world on T.V. attempting to twist the legal definition of the word "is". Yay America!
i think nixon proves that men of a certain character should not be in a leadership position, especially the presidency, like dubya, carter or the three presidents preceding fdr. also, his nickname 'tricky dick' didn't help much i'm sure
Well mikey... Nixon happened to be elected, and re-elected by the widest margins in presidential history. Where were you and your wisdom when you could have put such insight to good use? /eyeroll
Nixon was much more articulate, much more than George W. Bush. I always voted for the yellow dogs but after watching these tapes you do feel sorry for him whereas with W, you want to rip the TV off the wall and slam it.
He was a criminal. A disgrace to the highest office in our land. I feel no sympathy, very little empathy. He was a political mutant, a werewolf and a vulgar opportunist. He was smart. Smarter than the man-child about to step down. He was a lace curtain mick with vicious tendencies and palpable self-hatred. Really just a criminal. Far from Lincoln and Jefferson; our greatest Presidents.
Are you sure you aren't talking about yourself, especially that "palpable self-hatred" bit? I thought this clip was very interesting. You have nothing constructive to say about the content, you're just hating Nixon.
his foreign policy was the most pragmatic of any president in the twentieth century.
That is what made it effective. NOT flairs of insight. Rather, logical and rigorous reasoning determined how he would conduct foreign wars and peace.
PS. Nixon knew that our promising to support the South Vietnamese was a bad idea in the sixties. He also knew that the NV would never stop undermining the South.
the reason for his promise to continue to bear any burden was to leave the Dems holding the bag.
Nixon wasn't destroyed by his paranoia, or his 'insecurity' he was destroyed by the kids of the shitheads that hated him in the fifties. Simple as that. They saw their chance and took it. Shit heads. None of which accomplished half as much as he did.
Nixon was a brilliant man who let his paranoia destroy what could have been a great presidency. The times & the world were different back then and unlike Bush & Cheney - Nixon decisions were guided out of true love of his country. Bush is guided by personal greed and corruption and longing for power
Yes, many bad things. Watergate, Cambodia, Ellsberg. No excuse. I'd like to respectfully ask you to recognize that unlike George W. Bush, Richard Nixon was not only a brilliant man, but someone who, I believe, regretted the many wrong doings that went on during his presidency. You will never catch Bush and Cheney showing any signs of regret in the many years to come. They make Richard Nixon look like a child who stole a piece of candy from the store. They and the neo-cons are true criminals.
what a thoughful and well said comment. i am a democrat who finds the conduct of both men (nixon and w. bush) abhorent. I agree with your statement on bush and cheney they dont reflect on "mistakes".
Nixon saved tens of thousands of men LBJ got dragooned in Vietnam. And if it wasn't for congress cutting off the threat of future bombings, the '73 peace agreement would've saved South Vietnam the same way South Korea was
Now, what Nixon did in domestic politics was wrong, I'll admit that. But I value him for his foreign policy
According to tapes released recently, Nixon and his associates tried to dissuade the North Vietnamese from entering peace talks until after the '68 presidential election.
