  • LAW & ORDER!!!!!

  • when he started playing radio head i thought it was ugly casanova "hotcha girls"

  • @steve1287 I love both of those bands, especially UC. Check out my channel, good sir :)

  • Andy, thank you for giving us so much Radiohead!

  • sweet home alabama solo!!!

  • Andy,

i really enjoy the tone of this pedal, but the only concern i have is that there may be an audible "click" when the pedal is engaged/disengaged... reference 4:09.. am i just hearing things or is that click actually there

  • @christherock101 - Sometimes static build-up inside a switch causes an audible pop. This is true of any true bypass pedal with this type of switch. Actuating the switch a handful of times before playing will get rid of the static and the pop sound. Thanks!

  • Sounds great. It's a toss up between this and the Keeley 4 knob, and the Germanium OD probably tips the balance.

  • I have two issues with this pedal, the line in/out are placed in really stupid places, and the LED, while pretty, is just stupidly bright, other than that, I'm glad I own it, it sounds great.

  • Weird Fishes!

  • What's the point of putting a 12-18 V input ? Does the sound change if we run it with a 12V compared to a 18V ?

  • @Cyberbob182 Running at a higher voltage will give you more headroom and a little more dynamic range!

  • Love the "Law and Order" too! Andy rules!

  • The Police rules!

  • Does this have the same amount of sustain as the non-germanium philosopher's tone?

  • Andy just covered a Law & Order theme song. Your argument is invalid.

  • Pigtronix? More like Swinetronix!

  • that outro at 6:10 sounds bad ass, like it's 3 am and not time to go home yet

  • Dear PGS, around 1:30, when Andy is talking, there is a wonderful overdrive sound on the guitar in the background. Do you know what pedal this is?

  • @sjgrega - That's a Vintage Rat and a Marshall Plexi, set to "Stun". Thanks!

    -PGS

  • The site says these are out of stock. Are they still making these, or am I out of luck?

  • Did I just hear the Law and Order theme song at about 4:36?

  • @semoff it's called Wierd Fishes from In Rainbows album, I love this song :D

  • What song are you playing at 5:00 ? w/ the hss strat?

  • It's still sold out :(

  • Just ordered this yesterday.. can't wait, OH YEAH!

  • HURRY UP AND GET THIS BACK IN STOCK!!!!! ALSO THE ISP DECIMATOR!!!

  • haha! really dig the law & order theme song at 4:38

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos what is the song you play at 3:00? Is it Radiohead?

  • Is it possible to power this one with a T rex Fuel Tank?

  • I'd love for PGS to help me out with this, but anybody who knows would be a great help. I am trying to choose between this pedal and the regular version. I love the grit that this pedal adds, but it seems to color the tone severely and it doesn't seem that there is a way to get a clean tone w/out rolling back most of the dials, unlike the original. Can I get transparent sounds from this thing without it sounding overdriven, or is that just a natural aspect of the germanium transistors?

  • @rufiopan1 - We have our Deluxe set just on the edge where it breaks up. That may be what your hearing. This pedal is capable of a very clean, compressed tone, depending on your amp settings. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Yes, that helps a lot. I spoke to David at Pigtronix as well. Just ordered it from you guys this morning. I can't wait!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos well could you make a video of that clean tone?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

Wich one would you say is more transparent, this one or the keeley?

  • it's incredibly refreshing to hear radiohead on a pedal demo. i know i'm in the minority here, but i get quite tired of the pentatonic/blues based stuff.

  • What's that strange sound you can hear on clean long notes, especially 4:10-4:40?

Doesn't sound like a normal comp hiss. This seems like a great pedal, especially the sustain, but if it adds some unnatural character on clean sounds I think it's just not worth it.

  • does this pedal comes with his ac adapter included, in the PGS webpage doesn't say anything about it?????

  • @alonso8a - Yes it does. Thanks!

    -PGS Crew

  • I've been playing for 6 years and I STILL have trouble understanding what a compressor really does. Whatever this one does though, it sounds like it's doing it phenominally well.

  • @Paweljarski basically it squashes your guitar signal , bring up the low ends and hence " tightening them " and pulling down your high frequencies so it is a more compressed signal strand .. if that makes any sense haha

  • Amazing. I would love to see the philosopher's tone with a bogner alchemist.

  • I LOVE THAT YOU PLAYED THE LAW & ORDER THEME SONG.

  • what song is Andy playing at 3:25?

  • @ArtVandaleit Weird Fishes/Arpeggi by Radiohead

  • When you put the OD on at 5:19, is it being placed before or after the Philosopher's Tone?

  • @TwoTones - I believe it was after the PT for that one. Thanks!

    -PGS Crew

  • hi there, is this one looking like selling out soon? my birthday's a wee way off :)

  • So, this is a limited edition version of the pedal, right? How long is it in production for because I really want one of these but have a few other pedals I want to get first.

  • I actually love u andy ur a big radiohead fan just like me u demo the best quality pedals and u are really good at guitar and u are reallyt gooD at demos u give people wat u wanna hear ur just simply AWESOME

  • Wiiiiiiiieeeeeerrrrrddddd Fiiiiiishes...

  • I just bought the original philosopher's tone pedal and have it front of a stock ts9, and I love it. Over the years I have tried a few compression pedals including the Keeley, Boss, and Dunlop, and this pedal by far is the best compressor i have used. it is really punchy and gives great sustain. I can get a very Trey Anastasio feel out of it. You will get some feedback but I feel if you know how to control it and use it the right way the feedback is never a problem.

  • Can't you just use a onespot 9 volt adapter for this?

  • @dugingers No you need a 12V minimum. it'll still work with 9V, but it will probably sound fuzzy, distorted and weak.

  • @letsgetcarriedaway

Do you know if it would be much difference when using 12V or 18V?

  • Andy,

This is has nothing to do with the pedal but I'm just curious about the strat your using, more specifically the pickups. Are those stock or are they upgraded. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me because I really want new PU's for my strat and the ones in the first example sound unbelievable. Thanks man

    - Mike

  • @usernameraba - I believe Andy was using a Custom Shop Fusion with the Dimarzio Area pickups for this one. Thanks!

    -PGS Crew

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Hey thanks man!

  • Cool how Andy can get those chords so chunky without a pick!

  • I just got this pedal in the mail the other day, and haven't been to happy with it. Im getting CRAZY feedback when the sustain and blend are at only 12 o'clock (this is with a tubescreamer) and im getting a pop every time i hit my first note. i dont know what the problem is....could it be because im playing with a solid state amp? (i just got all my gear stolen )

  • @tylerdwells I read somewher on some forum that usually compressers don't work well with solid state amps or they dont work at all.

  • @MDelgadoification - On the contrary, compressors are perfect for solid state amps. Tube amps have a natural compression ( the byproduct of saturated tubes), which is one of the reasons why a lot of people like them. Solid state amps don't have that characteristic. Putting a good compressor in front of a solid state amp can give you back some of that "punch".

  • what is the difference between these two pgs reviews? Pigtronix Philosophers Tone compressor and pigtronix philoophers tone

  • The grit - does it add drive to the dry or compressed signal. Or to ask a different way, does the grit knob become inactive at either hard left or hard right ends of the blend knob? Thanks!

  • I want it!!!!!!!!!!!! That's amazing and it has the perfect tone for music that i do!!!

  • good effort on radiohead

  • "You sent my letters back, and my LP records and their all scratched..." yeah!!!

  • why did they put the input and output on the same side of the pedal right next to each other? Major inconvenience if you want to put it on your pedalboard

  • I understand that noise is inherent to the type of pedal, but what's the background noise like compared to other compressors?

  • Law & Order theme! Andy you rule

  • Hey PGS, great demo as usual. This pedal requires it's own 15v power supply, correct? does this ship with it's own power supply? i have a visual sound onespot which i'm guessing will not work

  • how musch volts does this one needs?

  • @kebyonatin anything between 12 and 18

  • Weird FISHES!!! You rule, Andy!

  • Andy played "Sweet Home Alabama," and in my head I heard "turn it up!" And he did!

  • Your brothers gonna kill me and he's six feet ten!

  • Radiohead once more. Gotta love this tone!!

  • kudos to the law and order and the weird fishes. sounds awesome

  • nice

  • is this the best pedal to get that modern bite

  • thank you for playing that radiohead song. i swear you guys have gotten me into so much music i otherwise would not be into.

  • smoothy... i like it (y)

  • Oh lord won't ya buy me a Philosophers Tone

  • Hey, do you remember which overdrive you were using? Or was it the amp?! Thought you were sticking to the DRRI.

  • sounds just like any proguitarshop

    overdrive pedal

  • i am 57 years i can get all this with just my amp and guitar

  • @stinkfoot777

sometimes its cheaper for people to buy this than a great amp.

Nice name by the way! Zappa Rules!!!!!!!

  • @stinkfoot777

What kind of amp and guitar do you have?

  • Ooh, nice versatility! You give me more pedals to covet? For shame Proguitarshop! Love the Radiohead "Weird Fishes" at 3:09

  • SInce both this and the Barber have blend knobs I'd love to see how they stack

  • @popomczowzow OOOH!!!! ANDY, DO A SMACKDOWN!!!!!!

  • In the deepest ocean, the bottom of the sea...

  • wow a pedle that dont do any thing i will take ten

  • @stinkfoot777 are you 12-year-old?

  • @stinkfoot777 you're kind of a dick man.

  • weird fishes.

  • sounds good to me.

  • I have the original. I wish they would add a footswitch to kick on/off the grit knob.

  • they have another one? we only just got used to the first! what the hell?

  • Comment removed

  • @BiggSteve777 OMG my mom loves The Police!

  • adding to the list of things I don't need but now want because of you (awesome) a-holes

  • A bit of a dim job ergonomically it seems to me.

  • I heard some of sweet home alabama :o

  • Damn you Andy, it's not even funny how cool you are

  • Law and Order theme song. Andy you are the man

  • law & order!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Yo should play some radiohead in every cool demo ;)

  • I had the ordinary version. Didn't work for me... incredibly squishy, to a degree that was so unnatural I didn't like - it also had a weird envelope after the initial note that some other people noticed, too. Plus, the blend knob was never as good as, say, the one in the Barber Tone Press... (very different animal, of course).

  • @bloodySunday77

Agreed. The Philosophers Tone got some really bad reviews and ended up not being popular at all. I had it myself as well, and I had the same problem you had (and a lot of other users did as well!).

  • @DemoColorScheme

It also had this weird tendency to clip, of course, with the grit down.

  • @DemoColorScheme This really isn't an accurate statement. It won the Guitar Player Magazine Editors Pick award, and it's Pigtronix best selling pedal.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

I'm not saying that it's not favored by some, but look around on TGP and you'll see that it's one of the less picked up compressors, next to the Keeley C2 and C4, the Analog Man comps and the vintage Dyna Comp Scripts. I see these compressors on boards around the world a WHOLE lot more than the PT. It's not like I've not tried it myself .. There are just issues with the nature of the design of this compressor - it's not just me who thinks so.

  • @kemele

Your post was empty .. ;)

  • I want to get involved with making pedals and modifying them now.

  • Ok taking a second listen... I want one so bad. The next purchase after my Kay was going to be a good boost pedal to drive it with a nice vintage sort of boost... I was already leaning toward a Philosopher's Tone, but this thing is super sweet. This will make a beautiful addition to my arsenal, especially for a guitar line I need to record in June. It's the exact pedal I need to achieve the sound I want... ::drool:: and anything Andy plays Radiohead on I automatically like 10x more...

  • WHAT A PEDAL !

  • how much is this pedal

  • @xXBlinDXx12 too much

  • You need to do that that new Lovepedal Distortion pedal.

  • i think its the first compressor/sustainer that doesnt kill all the twangie sounds from a strat. or at least thats what i can heear from youtube. nice review as always !

  • SVU!! haha

  • lmao he said "dropping some knowledge"

  • *gasps* Law and Order?! Awesome.

  • Radiohead!!!! Whenever he likes a pedal he pulls out some Radiohead

  • @radioactiveparadise or is it every time he plays radiohead we like what pedal he pulled out?

  • what is the song that starts at 3:00 minutes

  • @SpenceHWF

    Radiohead - Weird Fishes

  • @SpenceHWF radiohead weird fishes arpeggi version !!! check the link ... great song !!!!!

  • meh okay

  • the first song is Cant stand losing you by the police right?

  • The second and third comments are the first comments. RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN, THEY'RE MESSING WITH THE MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATH!!!!!!!!

  • Sick I already wanted a Philosopher's Tone... Now I have all the more reason to get one. Once I get this vintage Kay amp from e-bay, this will be my next purchase... This has got such a sick tone... Weird Fishes!?!?!?!?!?! YES! Andy knows what I like!

  • wooo first page I love this channel
