I'm generally a Ford guy but that LS7 is one engine, no argument, GM got right! And well, the whole Z06 package, for that matter. One bad motha! But you had to pay for it. Only disappointment, perhaps, was the stock power output for such a large displacement engine, given the engineering knowledge of the day. But with mods, that b1tch comes to life! LOVE hearing the car alarms go off on account of ur engine noise at/near idle! Hooorah! Hahahahahaha

There are 2 major things that go into lope, Duration and LSA. I have a 232/238 with a 109LSA and it rumbles just like that. Also if you knew a thing or 2 about Corvettes they have 3 mounts 2 engine and 1 for the tranny.

I can say this I love the way your vette sounds and I am hoping mine sounds that way when I get through with it. I was thinking of running a straight pipe but my mech said that on the LS1 motor if you don't have some back pressure the exhaust valves tend to stay open and "could" cause catastrophic failure. Don't know never heard of that but he is the expert not me. Oh and I forgot a 3600 stall.

You plan sounds great, however expect a little less power to the ground through the auto tranny. I have to ask where your mechanic heard this nonsense abou tthe exhaust valves staying open. The valve timing is a funciton of the cam, moving the pushrods tipping the rockers against the return pressure of the valve springs, not exhaust back pressure. I would be leary of any ebgine building advice given to me by someone who says the exhaust valves might stay open too long without back pressure.

@RCFourFive Yea lolz, you need back pressure with a 2 stroke. 4 stroke, there is a timing point where both exhaust and intake valves are open which is why you want headers to suck "scavenge" the exhaust and a little bit of fuel/air mixture as well to give you the best burn.

@nicecoment you can run straight pipe, what you DON"T want to do is run with no exhaust manifold or headers. If you do that you might end up having a bad day. In fact, i'd run with some electronic dump valves too. Just to give it that extra boom when passing police stations :)

i too have NEVER seen a DOHC(DUAL OVER-HEAD CAM) car LOPE like a pushrod V8 does. even with bigger cams the end up idling out smooth. Look at the '03-04 Terminator Cobra's which are a 4.6 DOHC V8's that have cam replacements. None of them lope like that. Plus boosted engines tend to idle smooth unless they are a pushrod style engine. My cam in my C5 is relativly small but it lopes too. Engine was built great, DRM(DOUG RIPPIE MOTORSPORTS) did the tune and he too said i did an awesome job on it:)

Lobe is a noun for crying out loud. It represents the individuated portions of a camshaft that manipulate valve events. Furthermore, "lope" is indeed used as an adverb to describe the choppy sound produced by a camshaft which employs a high degree of duration and a numerically low lobe separation angle (LSA). Also, "blueprinting and balancing" will have zero affect on the idle characteristics brought about by the camshaft.

Second, the word is LOPE. Lope described the rocking rythmic motion of for example a horses gait, LOBE is the eliptical protrusion on a cam that lifts the lifters.

Got it? LOBE is a noun, LOPE is a verb, or sometimes an adverb.

Well that is basically stock. A waste of time and effort for the 10hp and 15ft/lbs of torque that a 219/219 cam would make over the C5 Z06 cam (206/210?). Way too small on a 383. 228/230 is the smallest recomended grind for a 383, any experienced shop will tell you to.

Yeah LPE is known for making big power on smaller duration cams. Their combos work so well together along with their tuning they don't need to use a 238/242 112LSA cam to make good power.

LPE is a very reputable company but sorry not the best. The best if your trying to keep your car high in the resale values. But the Cost for there work is overboard Your paying for the name more than you are the REALIABLE performance. That's my opinion. Also It's well known that low lift high duration cams give better drivablity and much higher traps than LPE's more lift less duration moto. Lpe gives the torque earlier for the under the speedlimit driver but will not win the ET wars.Proven fact!

Yeah, it's not lift that does this. I believe duration, overlap, and cam timing are the three factors that do this. More duration will create more power gains than high lift, you just get this. What most owners would consider a negative side effect. Cams considered more "streetable" are high lift, lower duration because you don't get what you see on the video.
