The Messiah is an English oratorio .Composed by Handel in1741 and premiered in Dublin, Ireland on 13 April 1742..The "Hallelujah"chorus is perhaps the most famous movement of this wonderful oratorio..King George II thought this was such a wonderful that he stood up for the first London performance of Messiah, This tradition of the audience standing up when the Hallelujah is played continues to this day .
This was composed during the late Baroque/early Classical era. For one thing, this is way too heavy to be from that period. This almost sounds like Wagner instead of Handel. The word is also pronounced Ha-lleh-lu-ya not Ha-llAY-lu-ya. The only recording I've heard that does it right is Robert Shaw. The orchestra is also too big. The sopranos are flat on the D to G section (king of kings, lord of lords section). The trumpets are also too loud between 2:30 and 3:00. Each beat is accented too much.

@organmaster1969 God doesn't care if the song is not perfect, in His eyes it's all about your heart and intentions.

I understand that there was a certain "style" at that time, but people can't compose different music? Plus music is about quality, not of mainstream,
Plus you got to admit, this song is GLORIOUS either way

@ECondit It's the CSO/CSC. Of course it's the best version ;) Being a Chicagoan I'm a little partial.
