  • THIS! SONG! FUCKING! HAUNTED! ME! DURING! THE! 7TH! AND! 8TH! GRADE! THIS! SONG! IS! WORSE! THAN! THE! DUCK! SONG!

  • this is lame

  • @603xxg That's the point. It's a character choice.

  • Sorry Robert Preston, but Africans ruined your home sweet home.

  • damnnnnn this that 6th grade music class tip.... used to sing this all time everyone told me to shut up... didn't give one fuck and belted the notes like a bawse shit this is bringing me back.....

  • This song is catchy

  • The lady in this actually hit the notes right. Her voice was just too high pitched and eerie.

  • next he's gonna sing a song about how great flint michigan is

  • I know gary is bad I'm from there I had to move but It kinda hurts when people talk down on it

  • All the way up to the 50's and 60's, downtown Gary was the place to go in northwest Indiana. Then it just got really bad with murder, robbery and violence. People moved away further south. When the music man knew it, the only place more hopping than Gary was Chicago about an hour away. Today as you go through downtown Gary it's run down, boarded up buildings that are decaying. Scary looking guys standing on street corners that glare at you as you drive by. Stay away

  • Yeah, let him walk down a street in Gary, Indiana today, he'd be shot, then robbed. That's a place you don't even want to drive through, let alone stop!!!

  • I Love my City. Gary Indiana!

  • I'm live in Gary Indiana and it is not abad place at all.

  • @aliciamuhammad Yeah, when you compare it to cities in any country ending in "stan". lol

  • aho

  • I heard this in music class years ago..Sometimes I find myself singing it out of nowhere. :D

  • @ryan2151993 Me too!

  • THANKS for posting this! Mama Paroo is played by Pert Kelton, who was the first "Alice" in the Jackie Gleason "Honeymooner" TV skits. Audrey Meadows may have been cuter, but Pert had more "oomph" as Alice...and was more believable...Audrey was very good, but a knockout babe like her would not have married an arrogant schmo like Ralph Kramden.

  • biggest understatement...... EVER!!!!!!!!

  • In Gary, Indiana people like Lil Wayne are now the music man...

  • I live by Gary and to us it's a synonym for everything that's bad

  • Gary, Indiana happens to be a good place. The best entertainer of the world is from there!

  • @MiJacFan1 " Gary, Indiana happens to be a good place''

.. Yeah.. you must have not been there. haha.

  • love it..brings back high school drama preformances

  • @rookie9r I played hith part in the Jr. verthion of thith...and He detherveth to thing it! Go Winthrop!

  • @rookie9r yea watever

  • if you're not from Gary then ya'll shouldn't be talking.im from Gary im in college and im making something of myself.so shut ur mouth u ignorant fools.

  • In our school production of The Music Man that was on just a few weeks ago, we had Winthrope (spelling?) Sing this song

  • @SSBBNiTEWiNG Do you happen to have the audio you used for the music or did you sing w/o music?

  • @Thenazghoul I was just a viewer : /

  • Robert Preston is a little old for the part though!

  • Who are the fools that make such racists comments, Jesus...

  • Gary Indiana is a bullshit place.

Black people everywhere, gang banging everywhere.

There is no 'good' side of town.

Not even the beaches are any good (lake michigan)

  • Gary Indiana is a shit hole! Who is this dude kidding???!! Is he on something?

  • @sgedlund this was back in the day when gary was a working-class steel city. now it's overrun by niggers because the demand for steel went down so the working people, blacks and whites, moved out.

  • I LOVE MY CITY GARY EVEN DOUGH ITS MESSED UP CAUSE LIKE HE SAID ITS HOMEZ SWEETZ HOMEZ

  • Gary Indiana! Gary Indiana!...is a crap run down place...:(

  • i wonder where he lives

  • lol i google maped this place after seeing this

  • SARAH!!! COME BACK!!!!

  • @leporello56 make me ADAM!!!

  • 1:37! SHES JERKING LOLOL

  • This shouldn't even be discussed...ot's absurd. Preston OWNS that role! It was such a masterpiece of a film. A national treasure.

  • Just read the story in the news today about a photographer who photographs sights of urban decay. Gary, IN was a featured city in the story. This song immediately popped into my head, so I had to hear it. What a great movie this was. Brings back memories.

  • I grew up and still live not even 5 mins away from gary. I produce hip hop music and i think im going to sample this

  • " There is just one place that can like my face" haha i've always thought that part was funny

  • @trickyfeet Haha, I think he says "...one place that can LIGHT my face."

But your take on the lyrics are funny too!

  • If only the Music Man saw what Gary, Indiana was like today. Then he wouldn't be singing.

  • @missawesomex10 He does. And he isn't.

  • @missawesomex10 what is it like?

  • @funrizwan it's full of crime and it's really bad.

  • @missawesomex10 U NEED 2 SHUT UP IF U HATE GARY THAT MUCH DEN DON'T TALK ABOUT STUPID GET A LYFE RATHER THAN TALKIN ABOUT A CITY WOW U DONT LIVE HERE SO DONT WORRY BOUT IT OR THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE

  • @MsMcthomas you are ignorant as hell all theyre saying is that gary is alot different today than from 1962 which is true you idiot. people like you are the reason people think everybody from gary is stupid

  • @missawesomex10 Harold Hill (Robert Preston) was singing about the Gary Indiana of 1912. Back then Gary was probably quite a town to sing about. You are right that he wouldn't be singing about Gary Indiana today if he could see it now. It is such a shame how some towns become so run down : (

  • @countrygalusa1 Well, he's a con man. He's probably never been there.

  • @ImpatientGriselda I'm very familiar with this film. As others commented here, Harold Hill is singing about the Gary of the early 1900's. Gary Indiana was once a nice town but that was a very long, long time ago.

  • @missawesomex10 too true = ( I live in Gary, Indiana and I'm NOT singing about it

  • @missawesomex10 No, he'd be busting heads, which is what America needs, right now; a few ballsy old timers to gobsmack us back onto the path. Remember, friends, we're the same people we always were. Somehow, though, we've been shmoozed out of acknowledging how special that we and our nation really are. Once we get over this, as we're beginning to do, it's gonna be Katie, bar the frikkin' DOOR! Prestons' idealized 1905 Gary is gonna look like 2011 COMPTON, by comparison! Better days ahead!

  • @theshadow1932 Bleccch! You sound like one of the teabagger nuts. Lighten up. Whether MissAwesome was serious or not, it was a funny comment.

  • Broderick is a tenor and Preston is a baritone. Nuff said.

  • THis lady is tone deaf :P... but the dude, now THATS talent.

  • @PR0EN yea but she's a good dancer.

  • I remember when MJ died, this was one of the songs I thought about for the death of the ultimate "Music man"

  • @demi...I agree. I saw Broderick's version, and I thought it stunk something awful. Seriously, I can't imagine anyone else but Preston playing Prof. Hill.

  • I love how the only place that can apparently light his face is infested with crime, violence, stealing and rape :) Lol just kidding, but I love this song so much! Our present day piece of crap gives it a bad name :/

  • cool

  • Dude i live right next to Gary, IN and its a complete s**t hole.

I mean i'm not a racist or anything, but if you ever drive through it make sure you windows are rolled up. :P

  • @MrSonicwave36 When this movie was made it's was OKAY. But when this movie took place it was the shit.

  • So Refreshing.....:)

  • He would shed a tear for gary now.

  • Home!

  • The 1962 film was better than the new one in my opinion. It had more of a convincing landscape that made you think "Oh yes, the town is quite old fashioned, the ladies skirts are quite different and the men have checkered suits. Of course this is 1962. What other century could this be?". But for the other one...no. The quality of the video was better, but for me in a not-so-good way.

  • this scene reminds me of when burt dances with the penguins in mary poppins :)

  • These people never die.I can't sing or dance to save my life but I live and breathe every word/step they take.thankyou for uploading this.carpe diem

  • he looks old and bent

    like matthew broderick better

  • @aedododingdona clearly you hae no taste-- broderick is wooden in his performance and has no facial expression in 76 trombones--dont beleive for a second that broderick is a salesman at all. preston created the character and plays him perfectly--as he did on broadway--for which he won a Tony Award and he also won a Golden Laurel Award for the film version of The Music Man and received the Career Achievement Award in 1982. The Preston film has the original choreography from the stage show

  • @delidude1999 go eat a bran muffin

everyone is entitled to their own opinion so lighten up

  • NO one can compare with Robert Preston's presence and energy. Mathew Brodrick really misses the mark and falls way short.

I'm sad he died of lung cancer . . . . he was irreplaceable talent!

    LOVE YOU ROBERT!!!!!

  • @Demithegoddess how true==looked at some of music man clips from broderick's performanxe and made the comment that he was dull and some young teeny bopper got in this debate that broderick's version was clsoer to the stage show--not a clue. i just stopped arguing--i hate to go into a battle of wits with some one who is not prepared

  • @Demithegoddess how true--too bad the people who thnk that the broderick version is good (???) have no clue what they are talking about

  • @delidude1999 i never knew there was one lol i would probably like it just cuz i love the story altogether, but itd never compare to this 1 of course

  • @Demithegoddess

Well said & well put! Matthew Broderick is a gifted actor...but he was too young & not forceful enough when he made that made for TV version years ago. I too miss Robert Preston. Truly one of the greats. He was BORN to play Prof Harold Hill...just as Ethel Merman was BORN to play Mama Rose in Gypsy. THANKS for your thoughtful & insightful comment! :)

  • @Demithegoddess WHAT?!?!!?!? HE DIED!!?!?!? WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!? AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHH TAKE ME BACK TO MY PADDED ROOM!

  • @22shredderman -- Yeah, he died after making "The Last Starfighter." but, hey, at least we have all these great performances on film!

  • @22shredderman Uh, yeah, back in 1987. Not quite breaking news.

  • The Greatest American Musical Ever Written

  • @daughterrevolution I agree 100%

  • COMMA SAM; if you see this..I regret going to your links!(:

  • i love this video my music techer showed me this move

  • Thank you for posting the version with Preston singing instead of that lil kid (his voice was way too high)

  • Sarcasm goes over your head, eh?

  • @cameraonself My home sweet home!!!
