Well, I'll tell you this much, North Dakota it thriving, lowest unemployment, steady growth, and a fine educational system, ranking in the top in the Nation. I think America needs to wake up and take a good look at what North Dakota is doing and follow it's lead! While most states are loosing their industry...North Dakota is keeping and building more.
IT work is not rocket science, it is the GREED of certain companies, both US, (Microsoft) and Indian, (TATA consulting). Just because India suffers from overpopulation, (which is their own doing) the solution should not be bankrupting qualified Americans that have been in IT for years. We will deal with it one way or another, we are not going to lay down and let you run over us on this, you have my word on that.
People like Dorgan think they are being original and profound, but in reality they are just repeating the same mercantilist nonsense thats been around of centuries. In the 17th century Englishmen were sure that the Dutch were taking away all their industry and "good jobs." Of course, the whole thing was nonsense. And trade deficits are the result of insufficient saving, not open policies.
none else to blame but the americans themselves. you guys worship capitalism in every form and shape and anything with a "free market" clause is accepted without consideration. this is what you guys get for being so blind to an idea. stop throwing up tantrum on issues like health care as socialism, change your ideologies or suck it up.
oh, did i forget to mention your denial of global warming and absolute lack of willingness to compromise on luxuries and lavish living? that was your undoing.
By the same token I have seen the same companies who are engaged in shipping out jobs are the ones that hire few home professionals to avoid the stigma. Obama is spending billions, and the jobs created will be shipped by these companies who will be able to bid the lowest. If this is not stopped, the damage will be permanent. Unlike previous economic cycles, we are not witnessing recovery, it is due to the massive outsourcing which did not exist in previous economic cycles.
This guys' a freak. Just another politician using this issue to garner votes from people who think it's un-American for a business to try to maximize their profits by employing the cheapest labor. Those people are the morons. Why is labor so expensive here? Government regulation so how can more gov regulation change that? Nimwits
@baberuthistheman Why blame India? The ones to blame are these multinational jerk executives who throw thousands of American workers out of work, and stuff their wallets.
@baberuthistheman let's see what will happen if the companies don't ship the jobs oversea. They'll have high labor cost and the only thing they'll do is to jack up the prices of the goods they sell, which will result in inflation. So at that time will you guys be happy about spending 10 times more on groceries that are made in America? just to protect some groups of workers?
Mr Lou Dobbs You Have got a lot of HomeWork to do ....nd u too Sen Byron Dorgan.....Use guys are the voices of america...people listen to u...so choose ur words very wisely.....Its like pouring Gas to A wild fire...
Americans are lazy while Indians are more creative and better able to handle more work under pressure. We are not exploited, just faster and not always complaining about work. Further, we have the most PHDs, the most young people who can create better IT software compared to any other country. As such, the world is going from service to knowledge industry and India is here to lead. Accenture and Northrop will diminish while Infosys and Wipro rise to the top. MSFT, IBM will mv base to India
porasjeedimetla, you are totally incorrect! Americans work harder and are much smarter than Indians. Creativity is one of the key components missing from Indians, which seems to be based on their culture. They take commands for tasks, but are not good at developing solutions on their own. As an IT worker, I can tell you that with very few exceptions, the skills of Indian IT workers are vastly inferior to American IT workers.
The only reason why U.S. companies are giving IT jobs to India is because they will work for peasant wages. Even when the jobs are "onshored", it is because visa-abusive Indian workers will do the job for about 50% the salary of American workers. Indians are so greatful to come to the U.S., take a job at 50% the salary of U.S. workers, while badmouthing the U.S. and its workers, all because India is such an impoverished, failed country.
Then stop shipping jobs to India. US citizens needs to work Call center and BPO jobs.. Indians need better jobs...and we dont need US sadism on Indian youngsters....work/student visa's sucks....Indians stop inventing Ameica..they shd be 10 years behind wthout India..Invent for India...dont allow US to snatch our brain/labour...ban IBM/MS in India..dont allow them to do Business. if US govt thinks Indians in US should undergo sadism by doing odd jobs..don't allow 1-way globalization..
porasjeedimetla, If it were true that India has the most educated young people, then Indians would not be coming the U.S. in record numbers over the last several years and attend AMERICAN universities! If Indians produced such smart people, more of them would be attending universities in India. The increased education of Indians over the last several years is only due to them being educated in AMERICAN schools.
No other job sector in the U.S. has been offshored to India than in IT, which requires strong math skills. For the last 30+ years, the U.S. has always ranked within the top 10 in high school math, while India has never come close to being near the top 10. In 2008, the U.S. came in 3rd place, while the smartest high school mathmatician in India (Utkarsh Tripathi), scored 31st!!

Enough is never enough for corporations. Illegal immigrant labor, outsourcing is killing the middle class. Lets not forget, Made in the U.S used to mean something, it meant great quality. If you found something made in China or India, it was a piece of crap. We now sacrifice quality and safety for cheaper products and cheap labor. The U.S is losing is technological dominance over the world due to greed, we will eventually become a 3rd world country if things don't change.
The problem with America is that people who have the most money have more of a say as to what happens. It's called lobbying, Paying off politicians so that certain laws get passed to benefit the rich. Reality folks, democracy in the U.S is a wet dream, it doesn't exist. So yes, we can vote, but both parties are corrupt, no matter who you vote for you end up losing.
There are plenty of well educated people in the U.S with masters that get their job out sourced and work at McDonalds.
The main reason special interests have such power is they are the only people who vote. It doesn't really matter how much money someone contributes because they only have one vote to give. If everyone would vote, the special interest groups would be powerless.
Hi, I think I'm getting a handle on this. Tell me if I'm off base but would anyone oppose to an invention that would allow us to produce a widget at half the labor? Of course, the people loosing their jobs. But they would then get a different job and everyone would be better off. Exporting these jobs has the same effect as this invention. It seems to me that the real problem is the government giving unfair advantages to big business and the Federal Reserve System.

but crying for what in reality u don't have that much of professionals
we may have shortage, but it is not too much that we are desperate..
I can recommend you to see some H1-B videos and you willknow that a major part of this is to cut down costs..I have the proofs with me.. and we are not in shortage...although there is less, but it is not a shortage...
they don't have any vested interest, its all about cheap labor and cutting cost..
First just see places, understand things and then talk..I have been in India for a while to and I know what I am talking about!
If you read the books "Confessions of an Economic Hit man" by John Perkins, and "Rule by Secrecy" by Jim Marrs, you will find that the "War on Americas Middle/struggling Class" is not just a conspiracy in Washington along with Big Business, but it is a GLOBAL CONSPIRACY of a few filthy rich who wants RULE THE WORLD. Our kids future and future generations are at risk! "WE THE PEOPLE" must wake up and smell the deceit and deception in Washington. Difficult when most new media have their own agenda
Soon the American working class will not be able to support the American Economy. Then it all crashes. Really I believe this is a red flag with the economy problems NOW. Small businesses are suffering due to the lack of middle and lower class money that the jobs thats shipped and given to non americans would support.
Yah, they will work jobs americans don't want but can't take due to the lack of salary and benefits.

No, the Indians are slaves of corporations who fix wages and restrict competition both in your country and in the origin country of the corporation.
The wealth gap only increases in India as a result of corporate dependency.

'Brain dead policics'?
Nothing happens by accident in politics.
Hell, the Romans, and Egyptians found the 'benefits' of displacing their local workers with slaves.
What better way to get a good deal on properties and an American corp or two by collapsing the economy and currency.
(The Romans used TIN to inflate their currency at the end; we hide M3 and crank up the presses.)
