I should qualify my comment below. The climate you live in will have a lot to do with how heavy a grease you can get by with. If you live in northern N. Dakota, you want to pick something that doesn't stall the screw at the lowest winter temps. Greases with a synthetic oil are better candidates. I've always liked Moly greases also. I like Lubriplate, but it never seemed appropriate in the climate I live in.
Forget a grease as light as Lubriplate; get the heaviest grease you can find. It will still only last a short time. there is nothing you can do short of lining the housing with a plastic liner, and even that will be temporary. But, you could do worse, you could replace it with one of Genie's DC motor openers and find your power consumption has doubled. You want it cheap; they deliver!
I have two the garage door opener genie.... still very quite and smooth> maybe your garage door is too loud.. i still like the genie so some my friend told that me same as chamerblain is loud too. oh well thats life lol

They need to be greased with Lubriplate Low Temp or Genie screw drive grease that was available at The Home Depot or most Genie dealers.
