In some countries there is a certain amount of money per student available and the parents decide which school to send thier kids to, this means the schools must perform or go out of business. I would like to see a system like that because I agree, public school is failing our children not the other way around and they just ask for more and more money without fixing any problems.

In 1964 the Ponzi schemer money changers decided our currency would be made out of steel slugs instead of silver, then decided we didn't need the gold standard in 1971. I blame CA recession on the UNIONs catering to illegals. CA created millions of union TAX jobs catering to illegals - teachers, schools, cops, nurses, jail guards, welfare, social workers and all their pensions. And do these illegals graduate from college and get jobs to pay taxes? Most of them drop out high school and have 4 or 5 kids on welfare and join gangs - hence we have to hire more UNION tax jobs. This is not the kind of job growth we need OBAMA!

The California school system had ten years of my life, and I didnt completely know the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet, two months with a tuter(retired homeschool mom)I could read at a 10th grade level.

In some countries there is a certain amount of money per student available and the parents decide which school to send thier kids to, this means the schools must perform or go out of business. I would like to see a system like that because I agree, public school is failing our children not the other way around and they just ask for more and more money without fixing any problems.

By the way , Manoftruth. Looks like the stimulus plan is working. As of Nov. 2009, the GDP finally went up for the first time in a year. Much of that was stimulus driven. Now, perhaps consumer confidence and spending will go up and we will be on our way out of this recession. I hope we can start up more production, get folks back to work and get the economy going again.

If the problems of California were simple then I guess there would be someone to blame. To pin it all on Arnold or even Gray Davis would be over simplification. There are many programs that enable folks to get on their feet and become productive citizens who pay back into the system. Any civil society would have such a system. He seems like a greed head to me. And was it not the greed heads who played a major role in digging the hole that we are now in?

Thanks Reggie. Food for thought:ask yourself how much the average homeless person costs the state per year. Remember, you have to factor in things like trips to the emergency room,(where else is a homeless person going to go?), any law enforcement activity/incarceration, etc. into the equation. Some estimates are as high as one million dollars a year. It seems that it would be better to spend a little on welfare to keep them housed and at least on medical than to turn them out and pay more later

i have actually looked into that. in my town a thorough study was done a few years back & it was found to cost 50k per year, not including healthcare [free in canada]
a large portion of that is police services, which of course takes officers off the streets to deal with real crimes too
to give a single mum or drunken bum [call it what it is] 500bucks a month so they dont end up on the street is totally worthwhile
its not like being homeless is an attractive occupation
